Damn, Misato really looked depressing this episode.

It's a good thing he has friends and supporters. I sure hope he knows that others also depend on him to be part of the team to win upcoming tournaments. It's a team effort after all and he's part of the system.

Wow, many people admires the coach even though he looked aloof in the past, and there's a trauma for Ace guy, too. lol @ Senpais' Kansatsu Nikki move part.

Seems like Misato has a lot going through his mind right now, he can't even focus on his training. His aunt is a funny and interesting woman. I love her character. Got to know quite a few things about Misato's past from his aunt.

He apologized to everyone at the dorm and Shotaro told him to act cute. LOL. He's back on trying to get better at what he does best. He wants to learn new things. He doesn't want to waste any more time. His trust is finally building up in the boys. Even the coach gave him some words of wisdom.

This team is looking great. Go ahead, boys.

Gettng pretty technical is one part of the gymnastic lore, but getting the hang of the attempting techniques is another thing, and even worse, injury would push their practices back.

Even aces have their hard days, as evident by Misato seemingly not able to get the timing right for the combined act for their rhythmic gymnastics, and then bailing out for drama.

An insight into Misato's backstory of his fear of lifts, as is his independence on wanting to do things himself, and not fully trusting people for support. Once again, it's because of Coach Shusuke that he jumpstarts his passion, and for good reason, though his independent nature he looks to overcome through the ordeal with the gymnastics team. I'd guess it's expected that both Misato and Shusuke share similar situations before.

I find it pleasing that Futaba's personality wears together with Misato's on their shoulders, yet the other members fully understand with compassion. This is what you call team spirit: a bonding coordination (though that Buddha hand-like dance choreography from the Senpais was hilarious).

As expected, the last year of the Senpais means that they only get one chance to show off their skills, and an extragavant one at that to soar high.

Still loving the drama though it's plain easy. Continue to soar high, boys.

Yeah group bathing scene, I hope I could live in a dorm full of straight boys like this, bathing naked together, cleaning each other's back and front.

But this episode is totally shipping Misato and Futaba. I think Misato needs to be more greedy in his life too. For example, he already live in a big house he shouldn't have a problem going to college. And if he really want to be independent he should seek for sports scholarship first. That way he can continue doing gymnastic and study!

Knew it! Misato has a tragic backstory related to his family.

This episode, Futaba's voice actor really impressed me. He really feels like he's inside the story, like he is Futaba. I love the way he sounds more realistic. Sometimes, characters just sound so much like an anime character that I can just picture a voice actor in a studio, which breaks the story's sense of reality.

Misato didn't overcome his trauma, but he found a way to rise above it.

Futaba looks so squishy like a teddy bear! I wanna hug him!!

Futaba couldn't recognise Coach Shida, and just insulted his picture in front of him. haha Seriously, I really wanna hug him!!

Misato is showing his emotions; a sign that he's starting to trust people. This makes me feel warm inside.

Throughout the episode, I really wanted Futaba to wrap Misato in a passionate embrace.

Misato seems to struggle with something this episode, a trauma in the past?

I watched a few sports anime and there is always a tournament Inter-High and it has me wondering if that is a real thing and just a bunch of different sports gathering together to compete or if it’s just an anime/Japanese thing. Also every time they go into that sky like dimension I can’t help but think that the air must be crisp!

They gave a little manservice with the bath scene, they looked good. Misato has a sad past, I'm glad that he chose someone as his idol and followed his footsteps.

The ending of this episode is what made me decide that this, to me, was the best episode of Bakuten so far. Shoutarou's last line "When I'm with Misato-kun and our upperclassmen, we can soar even higher" leading into the ending, "Anata ga iru" - brilliant. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear. Very well-written episode. That's not to say that others haven't been, but episode 9 really stuck out.

Interhighs are real things in Japan. But not a bunch of sports it‘s just one type of sport. There‘s almost an interhigh for every kind of sport.
It just means it‘s a tournament of the best high schools from all over Japan compete against each other. Before that there are prefectural or regional tournaments. And there’s really also a inter high for rhythmic sports gymnastics. I got videos recommend when I watched a bakuten clip on YouTube.

Well, that was simple. I thought its put Shoutaro a lot of effort to make him comeback. But, he just broke his wall by saying that one thing. Trusting by needing, pretty unexpected way of thinking, tbh. The job well done, Shoutaro, good work. They both, especially with the Returning Ace, back to the track again, and ready to soar with the others. The flash backstory also feel decently match, while i think it can be better. But, so far still good. Keep it simple, and soar right through up the sky, you all!

This anime continues to soar higher and higher is what's happening. Started out as a sort of underdog, but it's been growing ever since, and really shines. In animation, in image quality (lighting's this episode was awesome again), in the signs and symbols it uses, in the way it explores and displays bonds and emotions, while at the same time very much keeping that ephemeral youth as a core - this time the talk about Misato wanting a job right after high school, and the coach talking about how four of the six guys will be gone in two years, as a sort of reminder... And it does so in a way that nothing really stands out and nothing really disappears in the background, everything's a level, organic part of the whole (even the fanservice). I can't even- it's just absolutely beautiful. Even as hilarious as dorky fanboy Misato is, it actually links him back to his childhood when he could be more carefree and was not burdened by tragedies and responsibilities.

This episode really changed my mind about this series. Up until this point I was enjoying the show just for its lightheartedness, so it was a good time killer, but there was so much growth between the characters this episode that I appreciate the show so much more now!! Also was just such a nice, well-rounded episode.

I say the same thing almost every week, but this is another best episode. I loved this episode so much. As simple as the anime and story can be, it still brings a lot of happiness to my heart. The highlight of this episode for me was Misato's smile from ear to ear and him expressing his true unfiltered feelings and admiration for the coach. That was a really wholesome scene.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Fantastic episode! Best one so far, I am mad at how underwatched and slept on this show is. It checks every mark of a really good and solid sports anime with flying colors, plus it has amazing production.

I love Misato's Aunt, she was adorable. That explains why Misato needed to come home, because Saki can't take care of herself lmao. Misato saying how he loves seeing Coach Shida's backflips with a smile was an amazing moment. Really looking forward to the next episode! I wonder if we'll get a season 2 though, cause I feel like there's still a lot more they can do.

Another beautiful episode.

Misato is so mature & independent. I actually cried when he confided in Futaba that he’ll find a job after graduation & not go to college. He puts others before himself. He has slowly opened up & learnt to rely on others, I hope it’ll all work out for him & he’ll still be able to go to college & continue gymnastics.

Misato also addresses Futaba as Shoutarou this episode, he treasures the advice & words from Futaba & opened up to him. And there wasn’t a need for any big reaction to that from Futaba himself, they also didn’t need to explicitly tell us that his parents died or how they died. Subtleties subtleties subtleties. Bakuten!! nails it. Beauty in the dialogue, what is said & not said. And those little details, the animation of their casual movements are always so good!

And o m g that ending — when he told Shida that he still really loves his backflips, even tho Shida was downplaying himself, almost as if he was saying he was not worthy of such admiration, after finding out how much Misato idolises the imperfect & flawed him............me: (;´เผŽเบถูนเผŽเบถ`)

The awaited Misato-focused episode is finally here and I gotta say I absolutely loved the simplicity in which it was handled. Misato has difficulties trusting in others and the apparent death of his parents made him become self-sufficient since he was quite young but thanks to both coach Shida and Shoutarou, he finally managed to express his concerns and ask his senpais for assistance in the new routine. Simple; without being unnecessarily melodramatic and with the protagonists taking action the moment they see something amiss.

Overall, another perfectly structured episode and the conclusion with Misato giving his biggest smile was simply beautiful.

Bakuten!! actually says a Lot and much of it is not in words.
Ep 9 did that in an extremely powerful yet quiet way.

Recap - Bakuten!! is set in 2022 and in Miyagi prefecture which suffered great devastation in the 2011 Tsunami and earthquake.

The ‘house’ that Misato and his aunt live in, is a post-tsunami ‘reconstruction’ house which means Misato at age ~5, lost both parents and house to the tsunami..

Contrast Futaba’s house and family seen in Ep 1, and all the senpai’s and their description of their family businesses in Ep 2, and Misato’s reluctance to be noticed by his senpais in town in Ep 3, then Misato’s proficiency in housework in Ep 7, which though impressive, is unusual for a young student..

Unlike Futaba and the senpais with their families, Misato is only supported financially by one young working adult, who also has her own life to build..

The more i watch this, the more intriguing the whole story becomes, the more i have to go back and wonder at bits of conversation that are now beginning to hint at a lot more than what they seem..

3 more eps to go and i hope things keep up to what they’ve done here in Ep 9!

(Still baffled by Eps 3,4,5 which were mostly filler until ep 6 restored things to what Ep 1&2 had promised)

That some good development for Misato with his backstory, it's sad for the death of his parents but he has still his aunt with him, he only used to be a fan of the coach before and that's the reason why he joined the school! it's heartwarming

More development for Misato, which is very nice to see. And the mystery woman is actually his aunt, which isn't very surprising, since I highly doubt a wholesome show like this would introduce an older lover for a high school boy. Still, his backstory is pretty sad when you think about it.

Also, an underrated detail I find in this show is that the parents and children actually resemble each other. I've seen waaay too many anime where the kids and parents look like they are barely related.
