| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Now that it finally got properly fansubbed by Central Anime, I'm really glad that I've finally marathoned all three movies, but damn after finishing I just want even more! I do must say that I totally enjoyed these three revisited recap movies, and while the lacking Eurobeat element was a bit of a down let, the whole new animation and visuals sure made a huge part up for it! To what we've gotten from story/romance/character development compared to the original story it was pretty decent, nothing near the state of the original but still pretty good for a recap movie. So all in all I must say these three movies were a great revisit of this epic as hell franchise! And I just loved that ending part with the original VA and that epic orange Toyota GT86! Just like they did in the ending stage! Pretty damn epic ending if you ask me. |

| If you guys call this sh** a master piece you probably never watched to the actual series. I have to say as a major fan of Initial D, these movies were a shame to it, lack of the battle details and everything that ever made this a great show. |

I watched the series too, and I think this one is great too, you know it's a movie, the improvement of animation quality is good for me, for such as a battle details, yeah maybe it's not as detailed as in the series, but c'mon, it's a movie, they need to wrap it up in shorter show time, and in my opinion they're doing great in it. |

Wrap what in short time, they literally only displayed 2 races in that movie and they could have literally made it look much better with details. If they were putting several battles into a single movie I could have agreed with that but it was literally a small piece showing 85 and the great battle. What is left from it if they cut the most important element of the series which was what made it shiny besides the music. It looked to me as if the studio who did it, didn't even bother to research about it. The movie is about street racing and the most interesting of it was that it actually showed the technique deployed during it, among how detailed it was in describing how it was actually done, even the Live action is better than these movies and I nearly always hate live actions. |

Well, since you're saying "if you call this masterpiece" in this forum, and I am the only one who said this is masterpiece in this forum, so yeah... so, you wanted more than 2 races, like10 races, in 1 movie? or 1 race with so much detail? well everyone opinion can be different, and that's not a problem. btw, what is the most important element of the series you said? I actually forgot, since I watched it very long ago, I don't really remember everything in the series, but I always remember the race with hand taped to the wheel. oh, you mean the kicking into the pedals technique and any other things? well yeah there's nothing like that in this movie, but in my opinion it's still great even it's only showing the "outside", or maybe you mean something else? and I agree, Initial D Live Action Movie is great. And remember, everyone opinion can be different, and I respect your opinion. oh and btw, what if this movie try to attract a someone who never watch it? and make them watch the entire series? Because from your opinion it'll really great, watching the movie with slack of technique detail, and then they watch the series and get detailed technique, aren't they going happy? |

| Yep, I did target that specific word of yours, but not targeting at you specifically, as it seemed previously comments were of the same kind, which is kind sad if they even watched early series. I don't care how many races they put in, as long as they keep the same level for each, as they had in the early series. The amount of races is not the issue, is what I am getting to. Its funny because the series were made SOOOOO LONG AGO and at the time it was created with the lack of many features we today have to make things easier, better and faster while keeping the quality, which is again another point to be sad about. That could be true it could attract people outside of the car world and they will go in watch the first episode and go like, what heck? Dropped! At least for those who doesn't understand much, simple because it was geared towards those who actually like/d cars and were/are into it. I am not excluding the few that aren't that much into cars but actually liked it, but u will surely notice the majority that do/did enjoy it were or are into cars, modifications and such. Pedals are one sure, there is also the break control, not very clearly but how the wheel is handled, the shift reductions, the actual drift taking form into with its different variations of cars, the trilling of it going near the guard rails, when the shifts are called up, tires griping and in some case losing it, the exhaust system throwing sparks at specific moments(u know what I mean if u like cars and know modifications), also the enclosure to the guard rail is clearly different as well as the distance from the cars and details shown in pretty much all legends. The slow motion they often do with as many details when they over take an opponent which is also much missed. I simple can't remember enough to write down the best parts, further in as you watch it, you see many new things, like importance of suspension, how the RPM works out and you see Takumi evolving. There is so many more details and its been so long since I last watched I can't even remember all the important ones to list or ones that need notations like when they fight the down/up hill gods. |
| Now there was maybe too much Mogi compared to her low appearance in the previous movie lol. Nowhere near the TV series and the manga, but the movies were still a treat to watch for the fans. Didn't feel like they cut out much, other than maybe some minor things. They did a solid job remaking the first three mini-arcs of the manga or the first big arc of the story. Good to see some cameos as well. Wonder if they're planning on making movies for the other stages, but that would probably take them 10 movies to finish lol |

| Great, it was so good to see those races with a HD quality! Unfortunately the First and Second Stage looks a little outdated, this movie trilogy was a nice idea. |
| Let me get this straight, the movie had time for useless romantic scenes that no one cares about (especially knowing what will happen later on) and equally pointless joyride scenes involving Itsuki, Iketani and the gas station boss, but not arguably the best race in the original 1st Stage, AE86 vs Sileighty. DISAPPOINTED!! |

| I really liked the opening scene, one of the few good things about Initial D is the way we can see prejudiced, and conceited fools being crushed by the people they mocked, and underestimated, be it because of their car like Takumi, or because they were a girl like Mako, there's nothing more satisfying here. Talking about Mako, it's a pity that she was only present to watch the final race, but at least I was spared of Iketani's folly. The dates with Mogi, and the first kiss she shared with Takumi were also nice, but it's a pity to watch Ryousuke losing, he would never make a mistake like not taking the condition of his tires into consideration, Takumi just won because, well, he's the protagonist, but that's a "trait" of Initial D, so there's nothing to be done. And they skipped the second, and third stage by the end, and went right for the Project D, leaving it open, and it's cool I guess. Well, time to once again say farewell to Initial D. |

| Is this full made remake with a new story (in romance) but with the same story at race? I don't really care about the graphics, if it looks better or no.. But, is this movie is the sequel fron the tv series or just 50++ remake? Can anyone please tell me? |

Long story short: Seeing the original show's final battle in modern form was a thrill. Although I still cannot get over the lack of eurobeat, (not so) little changes from the original made quite a bit sense. What I am mainly getting at is omitting Takumi's battle with Mako and Sayuki. That battle taking place after elder Takahashi's remark about the bigger world makes sense. However, the ad-hoc battle with GT86 felt a bit out of place. |
| holyy shit was that takumi's original VA (shinichiro miki) right at the end? if so, that's veryy cool. kinda makes me wish the original VA cast voiced this trilogy tho. this was definitely the best of the trilogy. had goldy animation and even tho i prefer takumi's old VA, i think this one was mamoru miyano's best performance of the trilogy. no eurobeat once again, not shocked but the music was just alright ig. mako and sayuki got reduced to even more of a background character. tho i thought it was cool to have takumi and iketani race at the same time as bunta and the boss lmao. overall decent stuff once again, that ending with takumi's old VA (supposedly) really did it for me, 7/10. |

| The first thing that needs to be noted about these movies: the absence of eurobeat! It's just not right. There was never a greater symbiosis in history than a racing anime and eurobeat! In short, I watched the fan eurobeat edition and it instantly made these movies great! These movies finally made me take up the original series and binge it up to and including the Fourth stage. And it is with the fresh impression from both the series and the movies that I claim: the movies are actually really good (with the eurobeat soundtrack splashed on especially). Yes, due to time constrains they cut some stuff out, but it is not right to ignore all the good things about them just because they couldn't have possibly met the ultra high nostalgia-tinted expectations of old time fans in the first place. The first great thing about the movies is the character designs! Let's be honest, they're awesome. You know what made me suffer the most through parts 1 to 4 of the series? No, not the super clunky early CG. It's constant and often unflattering character redesigns! And I'll be damned if Ryousuke in particular didn't take the brunt of it! Like, seriously, his design changes are the worst out of everyone. He's almost unrecognizable in parts 2 and 3! For the life of me will I never understand why do that in the first place. Part 1 and 4 are more or less okay, especially the nice detail of the main characters changing outfits every race in part 4 which is one of the reasons why I like part 4 best out of everything so far. But back to the movies. It's in the movies that Ryousuke's design looks the most authentic, and so does everyone else, I dare say, which is huge in my book. Second, you gotta admit the animation is pretty superb. It's a pleasure to watch, simple as. And last but not least lest this'd turn into a long-ass review, the seiyuu. The VAs. They're great in both the series and the movies. Yes, I repeat, in BOTH. You can just tell with how much care and, dare I say it, love for the original the seiyuu for the movies were cast. They pretty much all have the similar to the original types of voices: Takumi's mid-rage neutral, Itsuki's a little husky annoyingly boyish, Ryousuke's deep and rich, Bunta's with those nonchalant sly old man's intonations... They all are very good to great fits, there is no dissociation whatsoever when switching from the movies to the series and back, it's amazing and a first for me. If I could maybe try to nitpick, then I'd say I wouldn't mind if Keisuke's voice was a bit rougher and less smooth, like original Seki Tomokazu's, but hey, it's still a good fit and the va did a great job. So all in all, I love the shit out of these movies and glad they exist. For more details, you turn to the original First stage. But for pleasure and great visual experience, you take the movies, is what my bottom line is, folks. |
