| I liked it aside from the sudden confession at the end. It didn't bother me too much, but it makes me worried their relationship will feel too rushed. The art style's really nice though, so unless the overall quality of the manga tanks, I'll probably stick with this one. |
| I really like the premise, and both leads seem interesting. However, there's something about the artwork that I don't get. That is, the characters look a little too rigid in their facial expressions, for the most part. Two parts stood out particularly this way: page 13 and the last five pages. In the former instance, Koito is very impressed by Nanami's coolness, but I wasn't impressed with her by that point, and the page itself didn't devote a "money shot" to her either, so this created a dissonance. And in the moments leading up to Nanami's admission ("I could fall in love with you"), I would imagine Koito is either uncomfortable, confused or fascinated, but it's hard to get a read on what she's feeling exactly, because there's too little contrast between her expressions in the scene, and other scenes in the chapter. This lack of range in facial expressions of both leads gives the chapter a dry atmosphere, and I'm not sure if it's intentional. Add to that that the character art isn't particularly cutesy (especially from the profile, the characters look very angular), and that there's not a lot of comic relief - with or without super-deformed designs, and it's not hard to forget that this is the first chapter of what's supposedly a romance manga. This is not to say that there were no panels I liked; moments like the head pat on page 35, top right panel on page 38, the right side of page 43, and the final page were all pretty cool, even if the muted expressions still apply to them. Aside from that, I like the artwork. The paneling is nicely done, everything is fairly easy to follow. There are competent visual metaphors like the ones on page 17 and 25. There's enough variety in "camera angles" as well. Smaller design elements like the completely fanservice-free uniforms are refreshing. It's possible that this style will just take some getting used to. |

| Yeah, Touko's confession is pretty sudden, it seems like she and Yuu have only known each other for a few days, maybe a week. I've heard this is one of the best yuri manga out there though, so I have high hopes for it. The art is pretty nice, although not nearly as beautiful as Citrus, which is actually the only other yuri manga I've read so far. Hopefully this manga doesn't get as contrived and predictable as Citrus >_>. |
