| It's been a while since I've watched an ecchi romcom, so I guess I'm still trying to mentally adjust. Firstly, Subaru's ahoge bugs me. With her proper demeanor, her long hair tied up to the back of her head, and her trying to invoke gender ambiguity, these traits in addition to the ahoge keeps reminding me of Saber from the Fate series. Hell, in Fate/zero Saber walked around in a suit too. Besides that, another thing that bugs me is how often Subaru's femininity is thrown at the screen, to put it lightly. I get that it's an ecchi, but it's hard to see her as boyish when I'm constantly reminded that she has breasts. This muddles up any sense of ambiguity, especially since the show also got Subaru into a girl's school uniform so fast. It was featured in the opening too, which I'm unsure if it's the intent of the series. I expected there to be some form of build up, where the show would tease at her gender with gradually increasing amounts of ecchi, eventually pulling out the uniform as its trump card or big development moment. Instead, the viewer is outright flashed, in addition to using the school uniform right in the second episode. I suppose since it's a 12 episode show, there's no time for build up. It's all straight to business as it seems. My only hope is for a cliche school festival where the class votes for a theater play of Romeo and Juliet, where Kinjirou is Romeo and Subaru is Juliet. Then we'd have Subaru, a girl, pretending to be a boy, who must then act like a girl. With series that have gender ambiguity, I love seeing it get played around with. I don't expect anything masterful to come from Mayo Chiki, but that's fine. Mayo Chiki isn't that type of show. However, what I do hope for are cliches that are done smart and just different enough to feel refreshing. Lastly, is that little sister Kana Hana? ....Yes, yes she is. Wow. |

| The amount of BS in this is out of control. There's not much logic to events and conversations, despite placed in a real world setting. On top of all the cliche stuff happening as well. |
