| Gorgeous visuals and music and absolutely interesting premise! After so good first episode I can easily tell that this series is definitely worth watching. Its announcement already looked great, but ep. 1 has exceeded all my expectations, haha. Not to forget about how brilliant is the opening theme. Same with the ending one. |

| I just finished Frieren a few hours ago, it was a solid 9 for me, but one thing I noticed comparing that to this one is that the visuals here are very detailed and overall more pleasing to the eyes. Anyway, why didn't Maomao ask for freedom? After all she's there against her will. Maybe being there isn't so bad? Even though she constantly talks about being beheaded and all that. |

| Maomao's blasé attitude is very refreshing, IMO. She didn't want to stand out, and yet her curiosity made her end up standing out instead of remaining a wallflower lol |

| A somewhat interesting first episode. I don't really see what the hype is about. This seems like it's going to be an episodic mystery solving type of drama and that's not really a recipe for good entertainment in my book. The pacing felt awkward at times and they paused at the eunuch's face way too much. Why would women care about a eunuch's face when he literally doesn't have a dick cause he's been castrated? He has no sexual drive and no interest in women. That attempt by the author to paint the eunuch as a bishounen fell flat on its face and it was cringe watching the servant girls gawk at him. I don't understand where this show is going. There can't be any romance cause the main guy has no dick and there can't be any drama cause the first step to solving drama is usually a beheading. Maomao even said so in this very episode. I don't see any room for growth here and no room for intrigue UNLESS Maomao is gonna go on a rampage through the Imperial Court and seize the position of Empress. I don't see that happening considering her personality and the comedic tone of this series. 7/10 for this first episode. The animation was pretty good, especially the crowdwork, fantastically done. |

| The setting seems like Ancient China but I am not really sure. Either way, I am hoping we get to see some Ancient Chinese politics alongside all the medicine shenanigans. |

| A Chinese setting. Maomao is an apothecary’s daughter who tests drugs and medicines on herself. She’s well known by the courtesans and loved by them, probably because she frequents it while dropping off medicines for them. She’s a cute neko when it comes to herbs. Just like her father warned, she got kidnapped and got sold as a maid. 3 months into inner palace, and she calls brothels and palace as similar 🤣🤣🤣. She mentions that maids can become low-ranking concubines, but only if they have looks. And there she goes to assess herself – freckles, flat, skin and bones look. Her kick at the end is too funny. She wants to get out in two years. She wants to drink, and she’s just 17. After hearing about the rumours of the illness of the heirs, Maomao is curious to check it out. She wrote an advice for both the concubines, but one dismissed it and her son died, while the other heeded and her daughter survived. Maomao telling how Jinshi’s beauty is a waste because he can’t have children is funny 🤣🤣🤣. Clever how Jinshi singled out Maomao without mentioning her. Oh my, the way she shook off his hand and dusted off is so cool 🤣🤣🤣. She was taken to Concubine Gyokuyou, and she admitted what she did. After which, she was promoted to lady-in-waiting for the concubine. |

| Mystery, intrigue, and incredibly beautiful art and animation! What got me into watching this is the opening. I've heard the song, I've seen the performance on The First Take, and I just can't get enough of it. That opening sequence is art. The show itself is very interesting. I've heard others compare it to House, and I can see why. Maomao is an intriguing character. I never expected it to start out with her abduction, then being put into laundry service for the concubines of the Emperor. So now that she's been discovered, she's got a much higher position, and she gets to work with her apothecary skills. I'm really looking forward to watching more. |

| I can definitely see the appeal this has for both sexes. Shoujo for the focus on plants and bishounen male lead. Seinen for the theme of prostitution and cute female designs. Kind of similar to bocchi the rock appealing to a wide audience. I can say I approve so far. Mao Mao is adorable, and I like the palace setting. 5/5 so far |
