Interview conducted by: @iva- Reviewed by: @Coolest1234D To start off, could you please tell us a bit about yourself? I've widely been known on different platforms as Coolest(1234D). I'm a user from India this place is too populated SMH and I'm generally seen playing around in the Forum Games or going through the database looking for stuff which are worth a watch. I spend my days mostly going through Anime sites searching for news and updates whilst downloading and documenting as many stuff/entries as I can into my possession. As for me in real life, I usually introduce myself as Dune (Yes that's my name, Exactly like the movie and that's not a made up name, it's my real one). I'm a Doctor Enthusiast who hopes to help people mentally by becoming a psychiatrist, I happen to be a Christian, and as for my personality type - I did it recently and it said that I was an INTJ but personally I think I'd suit the INTP type more What do you think? What is the story behind your username? I've come up with lame explanations and excuses whenever people have asked me that question for a long time now, so I guess it's time to be honest about it. So, basically it's 2012 and I'm playing "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2" and I didn't know what to use for a username. So I decided to use the internet and used some random username generator and there it was a word consisting of just 8 letters and 4 numbers - "Coolest1234D". And I knew that I just had to use it. Fair enough I got used to it and have been using it for the past 10yrs in almost every platform I can. Could you give us a brief history of your time on MAL? Hmm.... My history in MAL has not really been straightforward, I have to admit although I hate to do so. MAL has always been a Hit or Miss for me. A majority of you here think that this is my first account but as a matter of fact "It Isn't". To say that I know exactly how many accounts I've had would be a lie. Because during 2014/2015 I created tons of account just to upboost the rating of Zankyou No Terror . (Please don't lash out at me later..... I'm sorry ok 😣). But I think it'd be safe to say this is my 4th "actual" account (which I've used for more than a minimum of 2 months). My first account was made in 2010..... I don't really think mentioning when my other accounts were made will make a difference, so fast forward a years and I have this account here. Ever since my 1st "actual" account I've had accusations which was the primary reason for me leaving MAL 3 times, but I think I've come to the point where I don't let stuff get to me which is why I'm going to stand my ground with this account... hopefully. But as far as things are concerned with this particular account I think it'd be safe to say it's been going great. MAL has definitely changed and been through a lot over the past decade. There have been a few mishaps here and there but I've always been able to get help from various people in this community. How did you get into anime and manga? Well for Anime : It was back in 2006, when I used to have this particular cousin who used to stay with me and my family. He stayed with us because he went to a university near our house, during that time and he hated staying in the hostel. He would always show me "weird cartoons" Normie Parents SMH. But I don't remember anything from back then. However I do remember that in May of 2007 I saw him watching an episode which was B/W where a guy was angry and was running around cutting people. I guess that was the thing that intrigued me. (Note: I learnt later that it was Dororo to Hyakkimaru Episode 2 ) Ever since then I truly liked Anime. And as for Manga : I don't really remember but it'd say it was probably around 2013/2014 when I found out that my grandmother was actually Half-Japanese. When I asked her about it, she said that it was true and took me to her study room where there were (and still are) more than 5000 volumes of different Mangas primarily from the 1980's onward. I was stumped to know that she actually loved reading Mangas ever since she was a university student back in Japan (She came back to India in the late 1960s). She would often mail me a few over posts every week or so and I'd send them back once I was done reading them. (I do say reading them but it was mostly seeing the pictures as most of them were raw original Japanese which she'd import from Japan). I'd completed most of them by 2016 meanwhile reading raw Manga online since I didn't feel comfortable reading English translated ones. From 2017 onwards began my English Manga reading era which was mostly online while reading only a handful in real copies. Any three anime or manga you’d like to recommend! Hmm.... Now there's too many Ani-Manga for me to particularly choose only 6 from..... But I guess three Animes which I would like to recommend would be 1. Zankyou no Terror(Anime) - As I stated previously, I am in immense love with this Anime. It kind of brings light to how often society is twisted, that they'd be willing to corrupt the younger generation just for the sake of a possibly better future...... (Doesn't that sound like the education system). Anyways I feel like the premise of this Anime just got it perfect for me. And it might be a similar case for a few out there. 2. Now I was debating about recommending this Anime because there were many other Animes which would have made for a better recommendation but I think the other Animes didn't make such a big of a reputation as this recommendation did.... and the Anime which I'd like to recommend is Acchi wa Kocchi(Anime) (I just realized they changed the name from Acchi Kocchi to this). Now you might ask why I recommended this particular Anime ...... Well that is because this Anime built up such a famous or rather Infamous reputation. It was released in the early 1960's and soon it became a lost media... somehow making it one of the most famous Lost media.... Particularly Lost Anime. But it's no longer lost and has been found because it was recently screened thanks to "Collaborative Cataloging Japan". And is now available on YouTube. I highly recommend that you go watch this amazing art made by Yoji Kuri in the early 1960's. Now if you've ever seen my profile before then you I obviously know whom I simp for and I think this interview would be incomplete if I didn't recommend Highschool DxD(Anime). Now what can I say.... It's got Rias Gremory. She's mine, don't look at her .... It's got Akeno Himejima and it's got a whole load of other amazing waifus for you degenerates out there..... And for the people who care about plot. It's safe to say Highschool DxD does indeed have a good plot. What good would it be if it had 4 seasons and no decent plot 😂 As for Manga well I mainly read raws or atleast look at the images if I'm being honest 😅 because my Japanese reading skills aren't up to mark or at least not as much as I would want them to be but whatever..... Here are a few recommendations - 1. Vinland Saga(Manga) - Now here's a Manga that does progression properly..... The first part focuses on the younger age group of the community with all the action and thrillers with blood and stuff..... Whereas the second half focuses more on the family, friends, relationship part of things and how the MC grows, which is what I like very much about this particular Manga 2. Yunagi no Machi Sakura no Kuni(Manga) - This is a Manga that just touched my heart to the very core..... I was always taught the US perspective of WWII and how much they suffered but because of this Manga I saw the Japanese side of things and learnt about the 2 nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki..... While this Manga focuses mainly on Hiroshima we can understand how it would have been for Nagasaki. It showed me the way the world wars hurt Japan which only skyrocketed my respect for Japan. 3. Ningen Shikkaku(Manga) - Now this is a case in which I read the Novel first then tried out the Manga and I got to say it's just amazing.... The entire ideology just really was on-point. I think it speaks a lot about our inner battles within ourselves in the midst of all our troubles in life. Well I guess that wraps up my recommendations. Are there any users you especially like or dislike and why? Now there's many people whom I love so I'd like to keep this a bit unconventional.... @Ratri_ & @Colourmonochrome - These users have been great to me. We've talked a lot and these people are just amazing. They know how to keep a conversation interesting and are great friends to have. @kwanthemaster , @romagia & @purplepinapples - Now these guys are just to be respected for. Their knowledge in the field of Anime database is immense and endless. They're a great company to have to talk about Anime and obscure stuff especially. @DateYutaka & @Adster123 - DateYutaka was my first friend in my first account.... And Adster was my first friend in this account. And I'd like to say that these guys are great to get along with for new users out there. They helped me a lot during my "new" days at MAL and have helped me in so many different ways. Now there are so many users in Forum Games that even mentioning all of them will literally fill up the entire page so I'd rather not. But I'll just say this - If you're a Forum Gamer, I love you!!! @prabudatta - This dude is the person who forced me to make this account and if it wasn't for him I don't think I'd have done it so I really am happy he made me do it that fateful day. And finally I'll take this time to credit two users who've helped me with my profile @Legends_of_anime & @amoured - Legend has helped me in my profile and my list design so many times I just can't help but feel ever so grateful. And Amoured what can I say.... Such an amazing dude!!! He's helped with almost every single imagery I have in my Profile/Forum. I personally deem him as "My Profile's Art Manager" and as long as I've got contact with him I shall only go to him whenever I need anything related to art. As for people I dislike.... Well I don't really like having grudges or hating so I don't think I really dislike anyone. So I'll say this section will be empty. What are some of your hobbies outside anime and manga? Hmmm now that's not very much I've got to admit but well..... I guess I'll go in chronological order from when I was younger till now. Now starting off earliest I think gaming was my earliest hobby. From 2010-2015 I became an intensive gamer.... Not much but just enough to get tired of it 😅. The games I have played are 1. COD MW 2. COD MW2 3. COD MW3 4. COD BO 5. COD BO2 6. COD AW 7. PROTOTYPE 1 & 2 8. CRISIS 1 & 2 & 3 There may be a few games I forgot to mention, but those are most likely ones which didn't impact me much. I also played several other smaller games which I don't think will be worth mentioning. I still do play 1 Android game though.... Namely "Call Of Duty Mobile". From 2016-2019 I started taking music classes for keyboard and I got tired fast.... I did get to 5th grade but I gave up after that..... I went for guitar classes in 2015 for a year but I just gave up 😂. During the same time I tried my hand at making music using "FL Studio", "Waveform", "Ardour", "Audacity" and other DAWs. I wasn't really successful making barely 3-4 songs which didn't really hit me so I gave up on that as well. In 2019 I went on a traveling spree. First focusing on the neighboring countries of India and then to the "important countries" . The countries I visited are 1. Pakistan 2. Afghanistan 3. Sri Lanka 4. Nepal 5. Bangladesh 6. Bhutan 7. Myanmar 8. China(Hong Kong) 9. Singapore 10. Laos 11. Indonesia 12. Australia 13. USA 14. UK 15. Germany I have also visited almost every Indian state.. (26/28). I haven't been to 2 states yet, those being - Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir. My latest hobby, especially because of the lockdown, is to listen to horror stories on YouTube. Specifically Lazy Masquerade and Let's Read! . I highly recommend these guys. How do you feel about the way the site is run? The way the site runs hmmm... It's got it's cons and pros..... The pros are visible everywhere.... The amount of users, the database, the community, the never ending list of forum threads, clubs, etc. The cons on the other hand are not so upfront but bear a dangerous fang. Instances of Mods being impartial and biased. Mods using accounts kind of like a plaything for bans and stuff when the user didn't do anything wrong. The lackluster database which doesn't allow for some great entries to be approved. And finally the fact that most requests or complaints always end up falling into deaf ears. But overall I think the pros do overcome the cons and do make MAL a great site to use. How have you managed to watch so many anime despite being a minor? question from @Mei-o_Scarlett Well there are a lot in consideration and a lot in play but to put it in 3 simple points I'd say 1. The fact that I was introduced to Anime really really early on in life, to be precise it was when I was 1yr 10months. 2. The fact that since I was introduced early I had a huge load of time in my hands cause I mean I was literally a kid. 3. I became a shut in as a kid which only added to the already huge amount of free time you have as a kid. Why do you have the name coolest when there are people who are cooler than you? (for example: momo) question from @Mopache Well as much as my inner 9 year old would want to argue I guess It'd be better to seem composed and more mature and say that..... There may be people way cooler and I may not be "The" coolest but I am the coolest version of myself till date. What are the things you love about anime that make it your preferred medium? question from @Hikool101 and @RyuuKun702 Hmm I have to say that I'm not entirely sure about that question. To be honest it's probably because Anime was the first thing introduced to me. Thinking back if something else was introduced to me instead of Anime I think I'd have been dedicated to that instead. But then again Anime is a better medium because it's got something from every genre and style and since it's animated and not Live-Action the imagination can be stretched a lot and the fact that everyone can be satisfied by something or the other. Let's say you never got into anime. What entertainment medium would you be into now? question from @JulietBestGirl Well I think that I'd probably have been into movies and TV shows. And probably a lot into gaming considering I stopped gaming as it reduced my Anime watching time before. So it's probably one of those two..... I doubt I'd go into Korean Drama cause those just don't seem to do it for me. No offense to any K-Drama fans reading this. But that said Anime has become famous a lot ever since the beginning of Covid due to the lockdown in my country. So considering if I never got into Anime back when I did and if I never got into it pre-2020 then there's a very high chance I would have definitely ended up a Weeb by 2020. How did Rias Gremory become your waifu? question from @JulietBestGirl If anyone has been following me for sometime now then it's pretty obvious that she's my Waifu. So I'm not gonna lie, I was kind of expecting.... No, I was anticipating this question. So hmm.... How she became my Waifu..... Well when I watched High School DxDback in 2017 I was a kid who was super horny. So when I saw her and her perfection with her heavenly character design, Personality and voice acting. I just fell in love without a second to even process the scene in my mind. Well I certainly am happy for how far I've come. It's been a long time... 15 years surely felt like the blink of an eye. But personally I think I overdid it. I think It'd have been better if I did more socializing as a kid instead of looking and staring at a screen. But I'm glad and even though I'm a bit sad about the choices I made to get here I don't regret it in the least. And no I never thought I'd have come this far in my journey. What are the things that you would like to improve in this field as of now and how do you see your own future in terms of anime and stuff? question from @Thedarkanarchy Things I'd like to improve in this field hmmm well firstly I think my ratings and the way I judge Anime. I'm told I'm too casual and don't do it properly because I rate stuff too leniently, so I'd like to change that. Next is I've learnt how Anime is precious and sometimes if not properly documented then it may end up lost which is why I'm doing my best to download and document every piece of Anime media I can find. And as for my future I don't think it'll be any different from how I am now. I'll probably be willing to spend more for Anime such as merch , DVDs , Special edition stuff more than I can afford now since I'll be able to earn by myself but most importantly I'll do my best by becoming an Anime Database Mod in MAL if I am capable enough or at least help the staff to make Anime experiences easier for other users. The answer could be anything from a few months to even a few years. But as far as it's concerned I haven't taken a single break since 2020 March up until now. What do you like about anime from the 50s and prior? question from @NextUniverse Well the main reason why I watch pre 1950's stuff is because I love to watch how much anime has developed ever since then . Also because ever since Anime has become mass produced since the 60's, newer Animes seem to have lost taste and authentic culture. Pre 1950's Anime seemed to be able to interpret Japanese culture into its media so well. It might be because of the generation gap but I will still always prefer pre 1950's stuff. And if I don't find it I just move on. But if I have to say the most recent entries which I spent a long time searching were Higanjima X Aniki and Acchi wa Kocchi, it was difficult searching for Acchi wa Kocchi especially with the new slice of life one having a similar name but now that it's found it's all good. How many of them do you really speak usually? Oh well I speak 7 languages they are 1. English 2. Hindi 3. Khasi 4. Tamil 5. Odia 6. Bengali 7. Assamese And currently I am learning Polish, Hungarian and Japanese I mean English is English that's just compulsory to learn and since I'm Indian Hindi became a compulsion as well. Khasi is my native language. Since I originally belong to the state of Meghalaya in India. I lived in Kolkata for 5 years hence I was able to pick up Bengali Similar to Kolkata I stayed in Chennai for 5 years and ended up learning Tamil which I had to study in school for 3years 😅 And I've been living in Bhubaneswar which is in Odisha in which Odia is mainly spoken so I had to learn that to be able to have my way with the locals well. As for Assamese since it was similar to Odia and Bengali it came naturally. I'm learning Japanese for obvious reasons. And as for Polish I have a few friends from those countries and I would like to communicate with them in their most affluent language. As for Hungarian @Aoirisu it's all for you 😉 I've dropped a few languages which I didn't feel like studying more of as well. I think I'd say I speak only 3 languages (English, Hindi, Odia) and a bit of Japanese with friends usually. Being the only boy with 2 sisters sounds quite unique. What are some of the positives and negatives of it in your opinion? Is it really unique 😅. I'm sure there are many people reading this who have a similar condition.... But for what matters.... Yes, it is quite unique to have an older and a younger sister. Positives to this hmmm..... Well as many memes and stuff suggest..... I'm the least responsible, with almost no family expectations (I mean every parent expects something from every child just that they don't expect too much from me). I have someone to complaint to (aka older sister) and someone to rant or show off to (aka younger sister 😅). And for the negatives..... Well you are expected to look after the younger one while making sure the older one isn't into her own "adult" mischief 😂. To be completely honest I don't think there's that many negatives..... It's been mostly great for me. Who is the weirdest MAL user you have ever come across? Now I have to say that this very question in itself is weird. I mean Weebs/Otaku/whatever-you-call-yourself are all unique.... different and weird in their own way. So I don't think there is any user I'd consider as weird. Well if I do leave it won't be the first time Welp!!!.... But considering all I've been through, the time I took to set this account..... how long it took me to get this done. All the friends acquired.... Clubs I've helped ..... Forum Threads I'm active in..... Trustees and people who help me find and source Anime, considering all this I don't think I'll ever leave the site...... I might leave for educational purposes but those will be more of a hiatus. Well basically..... No I don't think I'd ever leave this site, unless it becomes completely unusable 😄. On the contrary I'm planning on helping MAL out with the database by becoming an Anime DB moderator for the betterment of the site and it's users. Is there anything you wish MAL had? Hmmmm well now there's a whole list of things I wish MAL had but I guess I'll just state the obvious and the important thing since it's those stuff which actually matter 1. Change/Tweak the UI a bit to make it more interactive 2. Make the database more Unrestricted and more Accurate 3. Removing the 30 character limit and 15 character limit for Anime series and Manga discussion respectively 4. Proper and Unbiased Mods who don't make rash decisions and do it with Utmost Honesty. 5. Add the feature which evaluates and analyses our profiles without us having to use third party websites like anime.plus, mal-badges, etc. I think these are the major problems which most people have which MAL should correct to make it better. Is there something unasked that you would like to talk about? Well this interview has pretty much covered everything but I think I'd like to explain my listing system since quite frankly many people have asked it to me. Firstly.... My completed and Plan to watch/read basically mean what they mean so nothing much there. My watching/Reading is stuff which is either regular/easy to access/popular. My on-hold is stuff which is irregular/not as easy to find/obscure. My dropped is basically stuff for which I couldn't find the source. Now this works for both Manga and Anime lists. Also there are a few times where I put something as completed but I haven't watched them..... But that doesn't mean I won't .... It's just that I made sure to download them. I'll just watch them as soon as I'm free. This mostly happens with OVAs, ONAs and Movies. The first Anime series I completed was Sailor Moon in 2007 The first Manga ... Well I'm not sure but I think it was either Tokyo Ghoul or Your lie in April in 2012 but this was just experimental cause this didn't really hook me into Manga I only got into manga later in 2013 The first Light Novel was Highschool DxD in 2017 The first doujin was Mistreated Bride in 2017 The first hentai was Enbo in 2016 Any feedback on the interview format? Well this has been a very interesting interview.... The interviewer has been amazingly understanding and has helped me a lot. I didn't seem to have any difficulty whatsoever. I think Acchi wa Kocchi got its reputation because so many people who'd seen the Acchi Kocchi TV series were incorrectly marking it - his Ring Ring Boy hasn't generated nearly the same attention. Impressive travelogue right before the pandemic and your aptitude towards languages. You'll never convince me your list is legit, but you're certainly passionate about anime and have a varied taste, which I respect. |
