So many delicious food on the table. Jesus Christ, that's like a full house with the variety.

Mao also looks more spirited and in a better mood than usual. Glad to see him in high spirits. Sigh, he could of read the mood better between him and Mei Li this episode though. On the other hand, there's Juchi being a total gentleman.

This is funny episode (in a good way), after all Mao is still a teenager, and so is Mei Li, so it's not strange that their actions are driven by emotion just like any normal teenagers. In fact, what's strange is Zhu Qi who's around the same age as Mao yet very cunning and calculated. Unlike the fire pillar who fight head on with Mao, the earth pillar fight with psychological warfare.

Preview of the next episode is very dramatic, we've 6 episodes left to finish Shin story. I hope I get to watch Kiwami anime adaptation.

As if Mao's head chef position at the Chrysanthemum Tower won't be compromised, there's yet another new temporary head chef: the charismatic Jochi.

Cooking 10 dishes for 70 people all at once, that's a feat alone for someone who hates cooking, and having to fill Mao's shoes whilst he's gone to serve officials.

Is Jochi a persistent guy with delicacy though, forget about Mao who only knows how to focus on cooking alone, and chase after Mei Li for a total gentleman's dating interest.

But as expected, all of these is part of the Underworld Cooking Society's plan to put up a play with Jochi. He's no simpleton enemy to defeat.

Just notice that in manga Zhu Qi kiss Mei Li instead of just hug her, that's probably why Mao is very frustrating. I know that the anime in modern age has to deal with political correctness, but as long as the kiss is consent, I don't see any problem, even if both side are underage.

And this episode mark exactly the end of volume 8, there's no way 6 episodes will cover another 4 volumes, so it can't cover the whole "Shin" story. If we're lucky we'll get a sequel.

Zhu Qui was suspicious AF from the beginning, especially for me since I kinda recognised him as one of the Five Tigers (at least I think he is one of them). Things are getting pretty heated now that Mao is having a really terrible time with almost losing a cooking match, split off from Shell and Leon, losing his head chef position from his own restaurant and also losing Mei Li to another dude.
