idk i guess I watch it for the nostalgia since Naruto was my first anime to support (I was like 7 HAHAHAHA), and I do like the characters.

It does have a lot of fillers, but have you seen Gintama? LOL Gintama is my super fave and it has more fillers than Boruto.

I'm not sure you know what a filler is. Gintama has some but it doesn't come close to this series.

Gintama has little fillers unless you are thinking the serious arc are the only non-filler.

Either way, no. Gintama is a comedy for the most part.

If you read even just a few chapters of the Gintama manga you'll probably notice immediately that the anime is less filler than you would think. Although it doesn't help that the series starts off with filler eps to try and introduce the bulk of the cast immediately.

As for Boruto I really want to like the series, since I've been a huge Naruto fan since elementary school. But I really just can't get into it. I've watched ~15 eps and I don't like the plots of a lot of the episodes, which is a shame because I actually do like the characters. I think I'll give it another try in the future after a long-break, but for now I can really only recommend the movie which I thought was decent.

No, non-serious episodes don't add much if anything to the plot, but Gintama's plot is not its main focus, the comedy is. Unlike Boruto, who claims it's trying to get somewhere (with that insulting first scene) but all it does is waste time for no reason.

Exactly. We all have shows we watch that we enjoy while others don't. And that's perfectly normal tbh.

Filler this. Filler that. Honestly, there can be more to an anime than just how closely it follows a manga's plot. Some anime have some pretty huge differences from their manga counterparts (Black Cat for example). The endings can be different, the characters, motivations, etc. Does that really make the anime not worth watching at all? Will the anime automatically be a failure? A waste of time? No.

As for Boruto, "filler" still allows for character development which, hopefully influences decisions and behavior of characters later on in the show. It's not as if they're completely useless just because it doesn't DIRECTLY further the plot. I can see if NOTHING actually happens-- like it's a whole weird, stupid episode or two where no one grows and nothing matters. Nearly every "filler" episode in Boruto has added to the characters or the plot somehow though. Sure, it might suit one's tastes better to have development happen while the plot's going, but that's a choice of direction. Personally, I've found that sometimes in the midst of all the action, characters get lost or ignored. So sometimes a "filler" episode might actually HELP a character. Say what you want about Chocho's arc, but there's not really a good time to have her grow in such a way when you've got a lot of action happening. It was the perfect way to get the point across about her.

Why I watch this... I do actually like the characters though some are lacking, sadly. The thing is, the fillers have given the characters who are lacking more material to grow off of. Worst part is they sometimes dismiss characters like Denki or Iwabe since they're "filler" characters.
Still, the overall mood of Boruto is actually more of why I still like watching it. For the most part, things are chill, but the formula's more that there are a few things going on that will break that chill. I kinda like that formula as it accompanies Naruto, where the stakes were actually relatively high and there could really be trouble at any time. With Boruto, the creators are a little more reluctant to thrust the world back into chaos, and I actually like that. The characters of Naruto worked so hard for peace, after all. Boruto is their result. Approaching it like that really brings a smile to my face.

Holy shit didn't realize the score is this bad..

Haven't watch the show yet but I have seen the movie and the characters sucked in the movie, so bratty and not in the fun way like the beginning of Naruto. Hoping to like the characters as I get into the series, but I am mainly going in because I liked Naruto, and hoping for some OG cameos from daddy Hokage and rouge double agent Sauceke.

Also just learned that Konohamaru is part of the main characters? (tagged as so on MAL) If that's the case even more reason to watch the show because I like Konohamaru a lot. That Rasengan he did during the Pain Invasion arc was so good!!

Haha, what's insulting is that you'd compare this to the majority of the filler in Naruto or Shippuden. There's no comparison. It has yet to really "WOW" me, but it also isn't excruciatingly boring. They actually put some thought into the way the world is set up and to be honest, I find the premise interesting. It also very much seems to reflect the world we live in now - not only because of the increase in technological sophistication.

I'm only on episode 40, but it's already set itself up with some pretty good character development and a world ripe for another catastrophe. Just like our own. The theme of the younger generation not thinking it's possible in one place, and then travelling to another and realizing that people are trying to start them reflects on my generation very much.

...some great foreshadowing going on here too.

For me, most of the episodes so far feel like watching Naruto's filler episodes. So, just like when I was watching Naruto, I just rush skipping forward through the episode when it's a filler. Well, since Boruto anime mostly comprises filler arcs so far, I don't feel like missing anything from the plot.
I just realized that all of my favorite characters, beside being stunningly beautiful, also happen to be exceptionally skilled murder machines. \('-')/

I watch it because I’m a big fan of the universe they created with Naruto and I’ve invested a lot of time into that universe. Though Boruto is pretty slow at the moment, for myself at least, it’s not too surprising. I mean Naruto and NS had a decent amount of fillers. I think they should def ease back with the fillers but I’ll still watch in the hopes that they start doing something to progress the series forward.

It's anime junk food at its purest honestly. Watched nearly 70 episodes myself and almost nothing outside of one arc had been worthwhile. So many events have just been nods to the OG series, few of the characters are likeable as a whole and it's already chock full of filler. Easily the weakest series of the franchise thus far.

Ok, firstly, about fillers. a lot of people dream that when "fillers" end, the series will get good.
No. Fillers in Naruto universe are not the same as in other titles. In other titles "filler" mean something that is not in manga. Or is pulled out of thin air. In Naruto universe MANY (not all of them) fillers are expanding/building very important canon in numerous cases. And canon anime is at odds with manga in very important points. Sometimes fillers are the only source explaining canonic material. Examples:
- Kaguya's time on Earth is filler
- history of chakra is filler
- Kakshi's and Tenzou's past is filler - explanation why he uses mouktoun style, supposed to be exclusive to Hashirama and yes, I know about Moegi.
- Sakura's resolution in canonic anime is different then in manga
- Naruto met Jiraya in different way in canonic anime then in manga.
- Fillers are the only source of knowledge about Karin's past and Ibiki's wounds
- three tail beast history after death of mizukage is filler
- chuunin exam at suna is filler
- shino's past is filler
CANON EPISODES REFER TO FILLER EPISODES in Naruto. In Naruto universe canon is everything that was affirmed by author:
- canon episodes of anime
- novels, books
- databooks
- movies: the last, Boruto
- some of the fillers
And now to Boruto. Every Boruto episode is CANON, but have no source in manga. We know this from interviews. They explained that events are parallel or not mutually exclusive. At present time we are somewhere between events in manga and these episodes do not interfere with manga. Kishimoto controls the direction of story.
That being said, these "canon" episodes posses the same quality as worst non canonic fillers in shipuuden - they do nothing for the story and they have to end before introducing manga events. And honestly it is painful to watch the series. So far all episodes are canon, just not worth watching it.
I watch this series to criticise - exactly the same way as politics or failed continuation. Boruto's manga simply doesn't do this for me. All these sci-fi elements are riddiculous. When I think sci-fi shounen, I think Shinji Ikari and Neon Genesis Evangelion. They destroyed intriguing ninja world - modern enough to identify ourselfs with, but wild enough to be intriguing and unpredictible. We got riddicolous sci-fi wannabe, without any phillosophy and depth. I do not care about this world, story without any impact and old characters which do not make any sense. And yes, it is possible to write good story in modern, peaceful setting.
