@Deknijff

Oops.. my bad, it's not like we've had the same basic question 47484787238478382 times and another how many ecchi threads recently

Sorry for being fucking tired of these double standards and hypocrisy towards perverted content aimed at men

Who fucking cares? Maybe society needs to fucking move on and realize there's no reason to look at perversion in this negative light

And lastly, I've said it once and I'll say it again.. The majority of ppl who shit talk anime are other anime watchers, so why ppl keep talking about anime haters as if they aren't mostly other fans themselves, idfk

It's not hate. You can't really blame people for not wanting to interact with you, after you tell them that you watch these shows for the big ol' titties.

Some might say that you're better off without said people in your life -- and I'd like to believe that too, because I know for a fact that anime has made some people distance themselves from me -- but I'll be honest... I wouldn't mind living in a world (or simply a country) where anime is widely accepted.

It would just make things easier for me.

Not Ecchi. Hentai is the reason. Mention anime to anyone and everyone howls "Hentai hentai". Not "Ecchi, Ecchi". Hentai is the true reason why anime won't be taken seriously. Pantie shots aren't as worse as sex cartoons (there I said it).

Nothing wrong with watching Ecchi or talking about it. Borderline Ecchi anime might be considered (ex To LOVE Ru) but I doubt regular Ecchi has those above tropes.

???
I got a buddy of mine who really isn't an anime watcher that introduced me to HS DxD. I guess I'm lucky I don't know anyone that would shun the ecchi genre other than my parents.

I never said that I watch anime for the big tiddies. Sure, I like to watch some things with girls with big ass, but really I don't watch a lot of ecchi. I like it, but I don't watch a lot of it.

Without getting into how quality ecchi actually is a genre, I think it's easy to say that to many of those outside of the community that ecchi wouldn't make them want to give anime a try.

As for those of us who already watch anime, ecchi isn't really anything surprising or weird. I'd say that if you like ecchi then that's completely okay because anime is subjective and everyone has their tastes.

I don't think ecchi ruins anime in any way, but if we're talking strictly about how ecchi impacts how people who don't watch anime view the medium then I'd say yes, probably ecchi doesn't help our case when we're defending anime.

But y'know... I don't think that ecchi weirds non anime fans out anymore than hentai does.

Here's the thing I don't think any normie could name a single hentai title but I know many normies have seen a show like sword art online and thought the ecchi features were sick. Also some normies have seen maybe an episode of high school dxd or high school of the dead considering how popular they are and they were offended by it. I've remember watching ninja scroll on the bus with my swim team on my laptop with our second best backstroker and he thought the movie was entertaining as hell, I skipped over the sex scenes in that movie and nobody judged me.

So my question is do you believe that the ecchi genre is a reason that anime will never be taken seriously or become more mainstream?

?? But anime is becoming mainstream. Well maybe mainstream isnt the right word but anime as a medium is becoming more and more popular every year. Anime is being taken seriously now more than ever. Yes, there is still a stigma against it but not even close on a scale which it was say maybe 6 years ago. This whole thread belongs in 2010 when this actually was the case.

I enjoy them when they are stupidly over the top and funny. When I watch an ecchi show I'm not watching it to beat my meat I'm watching it because it's funny.

I doubt anyone spanks their monkey to a show like keijo but I'm probably wrong.

It definitely does, especially nowadays where almost every anime has at least a small amount of fanservice. Still, you should just try and explain that anime is a medium and there are many different types of genres and shows just like in movies or tv shows. If people still don't want to give anime a chance and call it hentai or whatever then you should just ignore them. Besides, anime is already becoming more mainstream. Give it a few more years and anime won't be such a niche entertainment medium anymore.

Ecchi is fine and all but once they have unnecessary scenes that don't contribute to the actual scene itself. Ecchi animes may have a bad reputation due to that and many other reasons.

It's the friggin news man. It blows anime waaaay out of proportion. They hyper emphasize the fanservice aspects while completely ignoring the story quality, complex character relationships, and moving backtracks.

Anime is going to have a notorious reputation for a looong time unless these films like Kimi no Na Wa can erase the stigma. But I think the culture's already shifting based on how many celebs tweet about anime.

Agree, sometimes people are quite hypocritical.

Thank you very much @Cladocera! Free! here I come! :)

I'm still waiting for more ecchi of male characters that actually has good art and isn't cringy. I have a really hard time getting through free and 9/10 yaoi shows.

But I guess to reply to the actual question- sure. However I also think with anime like SNK becoming extremely mainstream, that its less likely to happen in the future.

Ignorance will cause people to see anime in a bad light, regardless of how many ecchi/harem series there are. If there were none, they would simply find another excuse. I'm not a fan of such genres, but I wouldn't wish for them to stop existing.

Anyway... anime is slowly becoming more mainstream, and as more and more people turn to anime as a source of entertainment, the more weight it will carry. But who's to say, really?

Why are you all so insecure that you care what others think of anime? It's not like you can change what anime is anyway, since most of you probably aren't Japanese and none of you is working in the industry. Anime is, and always will be, either entertainment for little kids, or doujinshi-bait so otaku and fujoshi can jerk off to their favorite characters. The "presentable" stuff like Hayao Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon's movies and Cowboy Bebop are only a small fraction of the medium. If you try to insist that anime is fundamentally only like those works then you're lying to yourself.

Embrace the degeneracy. Accept the fact that bitching on an online forum for gaijins isn't going to change shit, and that anime will always be about tits and dicks.

I thought uncensored moments and stuff that are only on blu ray boosted sales for the series that they normally wouldn't have?

Like I just said to someone else, this isn't true. It doesn't sell very well. Hentai is porn and exists outside the normal anime industry.

No. People aren't going to dump loads of money on a series just because of some uncensored nudity. There's real anime, manga and game porn widely available, and it's much cheaper.
