Years after the end of the Dragonball GT, the story continues in this special with Son Goku's now eldery granddaughter Pan, and a new generation of super saiyajins, the great-great-grandsons of Goku and Vegeta
100 years after the end of DBGT, all the heroes of Earth have died...except for Pan, the granddaughter of Son Goku. Pan has a grandchild named Goku Jr. However, he does not have the bravery of his great-great-grandfather. Pan suffurs a heart attack, and Goku Jr. believes that he might be able to save her with the power of the 4 star Dragon Ball. Along with the school bully, he tries to find the ball...and unleashes his hidden bravery and power.
As someone who didn't enjoy GT, I enjoyed this. If I were in charge of the GT project I would have done something similar to this.
This anime has a "Dragon Ball" feel to it as instead of having an extremely strong protagonist we have a child who goes on an adventure. (Just like in Dragon Ball). I found the main character to be quite likable as he reminded me of Goku, with how caring he is.
The color pallet gives the show a nice bright look, just like what you would see in GT. Which of course fits this show really well as this adventure isn't
as serious as the Dragon Ball Z series was.
Goku.JR has the same voice actor as Goku and Gohan as kids(in the english dub). Which I honestly don't get, but I like the voice any way as I am quite used to it.
Just when you thought GT was the worst possible Dragon Ball animation ever produced, they hit you with the TV special. I would class this with the Star Wars holiday special, in its total lack of merit and besmirchment upon its parent franchise. This 45 minute charade contains almost no fighting, and the only commonalities with any Dragon Ball you've ever experienced are limited to character likenesses and child anatomy presented for humor. While not its only trespass, the greatest of its sins is its sinister deception of the audience, leading them to believe this will bear some semblance to the Dragon Ball they know
and love. Close behind is the fact that it presents us with an unlikable main character who is just as terrible at the end of the story as he is at the beginning. *coughShinji Ikaricough*
Watch this if you want to see a wimpy character, undeservingly inhabiting the visage of Goku cause all sorts of terrible things and never change for the better.
