Air Gear

Air Trecks, also known as AT, are motorized and futuristic inline skates that are the new craze taking the nation by storm. Although each AT comes with a speed limiter, a community of daredevils known as the "Storm Riders" are brave enough to tamper with the device. Utilizing AT's in underground battles, individual teams wager valuable AT parts or team emblems—their symbol of pride—to dominate the streets.

Living in this era is Itsuki Minami, a middle school student notorious for engaging in street fights. Always wanting to reach heights no one else is able to, the reckless punk will break through any obstacle that stands in his way, alongside his best friends Kazuma Mikura and Onigiri. However, it is when he discovers a pair of Air Trecks in his house that the path to his true desire finally opens: to rule the skies.

i usually stuck to cooking, but when i stumbled on this anime, i just had to watch it, because the main guy reminded me so much of my son. my son is a beast on the roller skates. people in the town actually call him rolling robby, which is very fitting, since robert, my son, always skates around time on his roller skates, much like the main guy in air gear, only robert probably goes faster, and that's without any rocket boosters.

love my son, i am very proud of him and his roller skating ways. the anime is a lot of fun and very exciting, ... especially because it helps me understand how my son must feel when he goes fast on his roller skates.

time to cook for my son and my wife and my daughter, thanks for reading

7/10, could use my cooking in it, but good

Mixed Feelings

Any positive reviews of Air Gear are mostly filled by nostalgia from those who watched it in the early 2000s. The art style, fashion, and music are all great (art and fashion in the manga are even cooler seriously look up the manga covers) which are what drew me into watching. It has all the making of a classic 2000s anime like protag male living with hot sisterly female characters and over the top ecchi scenes which have not aged well in 2022.

The first few episodes are interesting, but the plot never really goes anywhere? The premise of roller skating gangs sounds super ... cool, but it is really bland. They throw some drama in the last few episodes along with some weird fantasy aspects that do not fit in at all. This should have been a 12 episode anime. I had to push to finish it but the end left me confused by the total shift from the beginning. Personally, I do not recommend it.

Air Gear aired in Portugal in 2009, when I was 17 years old. I didn't watch it back then but it was very popular with teens back then. That made me add it to my Plan-To-Watch list. I'm almost 31 years old and maybe I should've watched it back then because as an adult, I lack the patience for some themes common in animes similar to Air Gear.

Before deciding to watch this, people should know the following:

- Expect a lot of ecchi and fanservice
- Expect terrible voice acting from the main character
- Expect very inconsistent animation


If these three aspects don't bother you that ... much, you could enjoy this.

The only good thing I have to say about this anime is that the cast has a bunch of very experienced seiyuus and that most of these have worked together in previous projects.

To me this was a chore to watch. I give it a 3/10.
