Highschool of the Dead

It happened suddenly: The dead began to rise and Japan was thrown into total chaos. As these monsters begin terrorizing a high school, Takashi Kimuro is forced to kill his best friend when he gets bitten and joins the ranks of the walking dead. Vowing to protect Rei Miyamoto, the girlfriend of the man he just executed, they narrowly escape their death trap of a school, only to be greeted with a society that has already fallen.

Soon, Takashi and Rei band together with other students on a journey to find their family members and uncover what caused this overwhelming pandemic. Joining them is Saeko Busujima, the beautiful president of the Kendo Club; Kouta Hirano, an otaku with a fetish for firearms; Saya Takagi, the daughter of an influential politician; and Shizuka Marikawa, their hot school nurse. But will the combined strength of these individuals be enough to conquer this undead apocalypse?

It's amazing how overblown and exaggerated it was, the way people would always describe the fan service in this show to me. The only point I could agree on is that it's out-of-place a lot of the time. Sure, tits don't tend to jiggle like spanked jello every time a girl stands up or sits down, and bullets will not fly dynamically around one boob, through the grand canyon and back out past the other. But I gotta say, for how much people told me this show is ruined by fan service, I feel deliberately misled. There was plenty of action scenes, and like I ... said the fan service is placed into moments where it's pretty goddamn distracting, but the amount of it?

Ecchi, to me, is when plot elements are REPLACED by jiggling tits and panty shots - that or those ARE the plot - and nothing more to be seen. A girl with gravity-warping beanbags walking up to the guy, leaning forward, seductively creating a plunging asscrack of cleavage through the maid's outfit, then slapping him across the face and calling him a pervert for staring... that IS the entertainment value you get from an ecchi series. This series, conversely, just felt like it had boobs and pantsu as side attractions meant to make you look twice. So yeah, fuck anyone who says this show has too much fan service, because for what it is and how people describe it, I think it needs more.

Mixed Feelings

Highschool of the Dead is not a GOOD anime, in fact, this anime is actually complete and utter garbage to watch and really only for people who do not have any sense of self-respect or dignity...

...that said, this is actually an anime worth paying close attention to. You see, while the obvious upfront goal of this anime is to draw in people through extreme (almost hentai levels) of ecchi, there is more to it.

First off, every character in this anime, is someone we know or have met in real life. Many of them are so absurdly close to people we personally know, and some of ... them are even a complete representation of ourselves.

Every character in this, has their own story to tell, their own feelings to explore, and when you look past the ecchi, you'll come to find out, that even though a lot of them are clearly out of most people's leagues by a long shot, these are genuine people with genuine problems.

These are people who understand the trauma of growing up, of living a life that they did not ask for, of hiding their feelings and their fears because of the strain that society puts on them.

In the end, despite this anime clearly being for the wandering eye, this anime has a lot to teach us... but sadly, does it in a terrible way. So, I shall say it again... look past all the ecchi, the unrealistic body physics, and absurd comedy skits, and try to envision the bigger picture.


These are people who all have skeletons in their closet, and under extreme stress, have to not only face their own demons, but face the fact that society around them has collapsed, allowing other people to recklessly pursue their own ambitions and desires without any control to prevent things from escalating too far.


As I said before, this anime is not good... but this was the ONLY anime that I actually became so invested in, that I even read the manga. Needless to say, I can relate to one of the characters, and watching this more than once, I have seen people from my life, as other characters in this.

Some of these people I genuinely hate, some of these people I looked up to, and others I never even had the chance to even get to know.

All and all, the soundtrack is incredible, the visuals are fantastic (no, not those kind, get your head out of the gutter), and the story is one that many of us growing up, have or are currently experiencing.

I deeply regret ever watching this garbage. Honestly the way it tries to pander to a specific demographic is just offending.
To summarize the plot briefly, it's just a couple teens trying to avoid being eaten while constantly showing breast and nudity every single moment.
The show really tried hard to show nudity, I can't believe this made it to T.V.
The amount of nudity doesn't even go with the plot, it has bad timing, a lot of things don't make sense even within the story.
The series doesn't have any value to teach the audience, nothing to reflect on. The action scenes are so ... bad, I didn't see what was fun about zombies being drop by bullets.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this like the plague.
