Synopsis

Childhood friends Tomo Aizawa and Junichirou "Jun" Kubota do everything together, whether it be training or just enjoying a fun day out. Anyone would think that these two are best friends for life. The only issue is that the tomboyish Tomo is in love with Jun, but he regards her like a brother.

At the start of their first year of high school, Tomo confesses her feelings to Jun. However, her rough mannerisms and lack of hesitance to throw a punch do nothing to sway Jun's heart. Realizing that he will remain indifferent to her affections unless she does something about it, Tomo must find a way to knock some sense into Jun and open his eyes to what is right in front of him.

Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! is a slice-of-life comedy anime that follows the misadventures of Tomo Aizawa, a loud, obsessive, and overly tsundere teenage girl. Tomo is obsessed with her childhood friend, Jun Katagiri, and goes to great lengths to get his attention, even though he is completely oblivious to her feelings.

One of the things that makes Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! so enjoyable is its main protagonist. Tomo is a complex and well-developed character. She is loud and obnoxious, but she also has a soft side that she rarely shows. Tomo is also incredibly loyal to her friends and family, and she would do anything for them.

This is that brand of high school romance where the indecision and drama is forced and protracted to the point of frustration. Most of the characters work. I liked FL's friends, though the karate/wrestling dojo father of a tomboy is extremely cliche. There must be 10 anime with that exact same character. The pacing in this is pretty similar to Nozaki-kun but with a successful confession at the end. However, this feels almost in every scene to be copying some other anime, given how suffused with tropes it is. I don't really think I could point to a single unique thing about it, besides maybe ...

In general, is a forgettable anime. Typical romantic comedy without any difference from other regular shows of the same genre, the only difference with them is the plot of "a really strong tomboy as main char" and all the jokes will be around that idea. The story is left with an open end, it won't get a second season and nobody will care about that.

This anime passes without trouble or fanfare, not being good or bad, simply mediocre. It's like popcorn without salt, you can eat it but it won't taste at all.
