Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru.

When Leoleshea, a dragon god, is accidentally awoken from her sleep within a glacier, she demands this era's very best game player be brought before her. After a year of waiting, she meets Fay Theo Philus, an apostle—a human granted a supernatural ability called an Arise and thus given permission to challenge the gods in games. Fay and Leoleshea realize they share a passion for games, whether it be with cards or a battle of wits with a god. Declaring that she likes this human, Leoleshea allows Fay to call her "Leshea" and team up with her to play in the gods' games.

Ever since the gods gave humans the ability to challenge them, they have promised to grant any wish after ten victories. Leshea desires to become an official god again, as she previously descended to the human world and lost her status as a divine being. Fay has only one goal: to find the woman who long ago taught him how to play games.

Though Leshea and Fay quickly prove themselves to be a capable team, the gods will not allow them ten victories so easily: every game has its own unique conditions and hidden rules. Together, the duo will have to act as a perfect team to finally achieve their goals.

Gods' Games We Play is my third anime that is about games (after Liar Liar & No Game, No Life) and I have to say right from the start that it is probably the weakest of the three, but I still enjoyed it. After the weaker opening episodes with games like - guess all the rules, it gets going and with the arrival of Bookmaker it starts to get really fun. The characters are nice, Bookmaker's second game is great and I also enjoyed the final Dungeon quite a bit. The principles of the world are OK and while I thought I wouldn't necessarily need ... a sequel, now after those final "god" games I would rather have it right away.

Mixed Feelings

(Watched: 4th-5th April 2025)

It revolves around a bit of everything like fantasy, adventure, comedy linked with drama.
The whole plot is pretty plain according to it: humans playing games against the gods. But then, it is very complicated, and it is not that easy to understand. Even at the end, some things feel a little unclear to me.

And these games were shown to be not easy as well as simple; concentration is needed while watching the movie.

I didn't suggest it to everyone; for those who do enjoy tricky storylines and fantasy/adventure empower games, they might want to check it out.

Good
- The audio is good.
- The games are not boring. Episode 2 and 4 had a lot of action.
- The premise is easy to understand.
- I like the purple outlines on the characters, it makes it look like No Game No Life.
- The show is silly

Bad
- The main character looks generic. I want my complicated hair in anime.
- The main character is generic on the inside too. He has zero personality or likes/dislikes
... - The main character’s facial expressions are really limited. He only has the default face on all the time.
- The main character is so smart that he knows the answers without any buildup and the viewer is often given no opportunity to figure it out. No clues. In episode [spoiler] how did he know [spoiler]? This is true for all the episodes except one.
- None of the characters undergo any character development
- The characters are all one-dimensional ie they have one character trait and thats it.
- This show is supposed to be about games but at the end (it’s supposed to be the climax) they just start throwing rules out the window and things go unexplained (e.g. the dice roll) so the show becomes chaotic and my brain turned off.
- In episode 4 there is an static effect on the screen to make it look like a flawed TV broadcast which I don’t think is good. I think its a negative. At first I thought my internet or my graphics card was malfunctioning, but after seeing it repeatedly I realized it was intentional.

Total: “3.5 out of 8” but were going to make it “3.5 out of 10” because I felt like it. (the show does "I felt like it" too)
