Isekai Ojisan

After a fatal encounter with a truck, Takafumi Takaoka's uncle, Yousuke "Ojisan" Shibazaki, lies comatose for 17 years. When he finally regains consciousness, Ojisan begins to ramble in a foreign tongue and reveals that he had been transported to a magical world called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle's claims as nonsense until an incantation makes a cup of water hover in the air. In a flash of brilliance, the pair creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan's magical abilities.

The responsibility now falls on Takafumi's shoulders to acquaint Ojisan with everything that has transpired during his absence, including getting him up to speed with the internet, new technology, and surprisingly, the outcome of the '90s console war—the result of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. With Ojisan's wisdom from his other world experiences, they grow their YouTube channel and tackle online comments and trolls. The journey of this uncle-nephew duo promises to be anything but conventional.

I think this is hilarious! I thought it would just be a typical isekai anime. It's not so badass or anything like that... it does have abit of slice of life vibe. However his stories of his past is what makes it interestingly funny. The MC is someone easily misunderstood, even though his face is creepy and the way he reacts is creepy like a perv that he might deserve a slap in the face. But those who know him, he is actually a kind and respectful person, more like an innocent geek who does things which he's not supposed to because he is really ... dense.

As the story progresses you start to see more of his past stories, which the mc made it sound like it was nothing, but it was actually a big deal. And when the mc made it sound like a big deal, it was actually nothing. You can actually feel the same as the side characters, the excitement and the disappointment of the MC.

I watched this show by chance and ended up bingeing it till the end. Recommended, go give it a watch for a laugh.

Mixed Feelings

Well, the series finally finished. It's difficult when you're covering comedy because comedy will hit differently for different people, though I guess that's true of drama to some extent, at least if we're talking about the really sad stuff. All that is to say that, yeah, this got a few chuckles out of me, but it still felt pretty one-note throughout. That's not a bad thing because it's a pretty good note - I like the idea that we're catching up with an isekai protagonist after he's returned to his world, and that he retains his powers. It's silly and fun, and the side characters ... are the ones who really make it work, from the titular uncle's (Yousuke's) nephew and his friend in Japan to the tsundere that is Suzailgiererzegalnelvzegilreagranzelga Elga (yes, that's Elf's full name) to Mabel, the jilted ice princess with people problems. That helps, but since so much of the humor is built on Yousuke's antics and he's only pretty funny for a bit (dude is just incapable of reading the room), it can only go so far. The action was still fun and kinetic, though.

The label "Isekai" has become synonymous with " it gets me an anime deal" in Japan or something; because without it, this series would have not gotten one.

This series was so bad that the TV network had to lie about the delays to protect the studio.


Reflecting on the title, if you change the title to: "I Found Out My Uncle is a Wizard," absolutely nothing changes. The adventures in the "other world" could easily be substituted with mundane occurrences from the uncle's life as a young wizard, and the impact would remain unchanged.

It's a missed opportunity for meaningful storytelling and a disappointing execution ... of a potentially intriguing concept.
