No-Spoiler Short Review: Pros and Cons.

- Pros (+): Can I just say that this is amazing? It's so weird but the author leads you into thinking very badly about any kind of circunstance that you may encounter in this series. The main could be annoying but you can't help loving her because she's so spontaneous and that's what makes her interesting as a DJ. There isn't a doppelganger effect with the character's designs, each one has a distinct personality and marking features in their physical appearance, voices, clothing, etc. It may be silly but it shows the dedication it was given. A proper anime for ... adults.

- Cons (-): It didn't have an amazing OST to back this up and it was too ephemeral. Too short, guys! Only 12 episodes and the manga isn't even finished.

Each season, each year, a new anime comes out on a totally random subject that has never interested many people before
We had iceskating, fashion, painting ...

And this season, we have the world of radio!

We encounter Minare, a woman with a strong temperament, in her desperate fight to survive in Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido (well, it's rare that an anime sets in this region! But ... there is no snow ?! Is it really Hokkaido if there is no snow? Did I have been lied to? I need a refund!)

Story: 6/10
The story is a bit of the weakness of this anime
On paper, it's a fairly classic ... slice of life that follows a person's life. There are of course twists and turns, but it remains very flat and fairly banal (even if the ambience of the last episode is pretty unique)

Art: 9/10
And here we go to one of the strong points of the anime (in my opinion)
We had to expect quality from Sunrise, and we did get it
This season is full of anime with a neat and clean artstyle, and Nami yo Kiitekure is one of them!
The artstyle is very special, I can't compare it to others with my current knowledge (which makes it unique to me, yay!)
The character design is quite good too (Minare in particular)

Good soundtrack that fits well with the world of anime, but nothing special or out of the ordinary
The opening is nice

The other strong point of the anime!
The general cast is quite good (the side story with Makie Tachibana is quite forgettable and arrives without warning however), but it is obviously Minare who carries the whole anime on her shoulders!
She has a strong personality, is very endearing (even if she is a disaster bringer) and she has a lot of charisma
She might be my favorite MC of this season!

Enjoyment: 6/10
I must admit that I still find it hard to hang on to this anime, despite its qualities. The scenario as well as the twists interest me relatively little but I understand their appeal
The only reason I keep watching this anime is for Minare and her explosive personality

Nami yo Kiitekure is an atypical slice of life led by a MC with a strong personality
You will have to hang on if you have trouble with the radio theme, but if you get there then you will have a good time listening to her radio broadcast !

Story 8/10

Really good adult story there is so much drama happening in the life of Minare Koda a lot of that drama is due to her own mistakes as the struggling hopeless person that she is but the way she struggles through the series from a a bad breakup at the start through the opportunity that ends up providing on the radio while also working in a restaurant is excellent I even think that she gets better as a person through these experiences even gaining maybe a little bit more sanity.

A well drawn show I liked the way thay drew the environments and ... showed off a little bit of Hokkaido scenery from both Sapporo and the surrounding areas. Characters look fine but nothing special.

Sound 8/10

Sound and music work well enough but the highlight was definitely the voice acting with the MC which was really exceptional.

Characters 8/10

The MC is just an exceptional character she has so much going on and the way she deals with all the drama is brilliant with a lot of genuine humor to it. The support characters also do an excellent job and also have things going on their lives which affect the way they interact with the MC.

This show is really carried by it’s MC turning from what could have been a fairly average show to a really entertaining one.

Wave hear me is an anime which I fear may be overlooked in a season full of exciting sequels and new ground breaking towers.
But this anime is heart warming/ funny and charming. And deserves more love.
It is an anime about a women with a voice. A voice for stories and reporting a voice for radio. Her boyfriend cheats on her and used her for money. And boy is she not letting it slide.
She gets drunk and bumps into Mr Mato who owns a radio station and thus our story begins.
This anime is off the wall as our character essentially role plays and ... acts up in sometimes insane scenarios such as being chased by a bear in the woods. All of this is acted through voice and sound . You get to learn a little about radio to.
Its an anime which I think will be relatable to people, the characters are real, the stories are realistic ones that you'd expect people to have.
I really believe this anime needs to be given a shot and added to peoples viewing list. I wasn't expecting this anime to grab me like it did and MALs description didn't really give me much to go on. But I am so glad I didn't sleep on this one. Its a slow paced one and I think the first few episodes may be too slow or off the wall for some, but if you can adapt this show will reward you.

Minase Koda's life is going through a rollercoaster and it only gets rockier as she somehow gets a radio director for her to have her own radio show since she's is extremely talkative about her private life, everything from her job to her love life, now her undertaking a radio job all under that whilst juggling everything else, this is Nami yo Kiitekure.

For the most part, Nami yo Kiitekure's story focus is mainly on our narrative focus and main character Minare Koda a person that talks before thinking but it THAT that is both the charm of ... this anime as well as her surrounding herself in her hectic life she puts herself in, from her oblivious feelings for Chuuya Nakahara voiced by Masaaki Yano, Yoshiki Takarada voiced by Bin Shimada, the owner of the restaurant Koda works in having an accident and both Chuuya and her having to manage it, the radio job given to her and being a complete amateur getting to grips of it as much of a natural she is and all the crazy hijnks she gets "just to get a story".

Right from the off, since radio is something of a "dying medium", Nami yo Kiitekure looking into what makes radio radio is interesting and how they explain things is in similar respect, how they do it naturally like Shirobako with anime. The better part of this is, is that Kanetsugu Matou voiced by Shinshuu Fuji the manager of Koda's radio show likes to be unconventional with how Koda's show is, one part reflecting in Koda's life...you know what they say about the best acting coming from your own experiences and two Matou seeing Koda's life already hectic and crazy with Koda herself perpetrating many of it, will in turn makes for good stories thus translating that into radio is GOLD and to this end is what kept LA interested even more with this anime.

Sure Nami yo Kiitekure is mostly about Koda's crazy life with the radio job being almost secondary to Koda's personal problems but it the outlet that makes the radio element flourish alongside Koda's hectic life as a result, nonetheless is a good combo let alone the fact that Koda herself is an utterly outspoken person with no qualms at saying what she needs to damn the consequences.

Now the minor characters do gets some focus and development here and there, namely Chuuya and his psuedo relationship with Makie Tachibana voiced by Mamiko Noto and Koda essentially being in a love triangle though Koda is the oblivious one, all three of them trying to keep the restaurant afloat, Madoka's own problems with her brother, Mizuho Nanba voiced by Manaka Iwami the assistant to Matou and generally having Koda's back looking up to Koda while having her own problems, namely Katsumi Kureko voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji the writer for the radio station and to which the sound enigeer Ryuusuke Koumoto voiced by Kaito Ishikawa has quiet feelings for Mizuho. All in all, these characters have their own little problems that are more or less dealt in the background of Koda's hectic life, some subtle, some not so but at least the minor characters goes along with Koda's crazy life.

The animation done by Sunrise was done pretty consistently and decently enough, good backgrounding and good character designs. Sunrise's crazy reactions to most of the characters namely Koda was done pretty well and overall when the atmosphere was needed, Sunrise took the right tone in animation, expected of Sunrise, really the animation was decent to great.

However the voice cast was something else, especially with Riho Sugiyama as Minare Koda as this is one of her first main roles (she did mostly bits parts in other anime) and this showed Riho's RANGE if anything with her as Minare, so easy MVP goes to Riho Sugiyama, but the rest of the cast was good as well, from Mamiko Noto as Makie, Shinshuu Fuji as Matou, Masaaki Yano as Chuuya and Manaka Iwami as Mizuho. Since Nami yo Kiitekure IS a look into radio life, expected they got some great veteran talent alongisde new blood who also blew LA's expectations with Riho Sugiyama pretty much holding the anime together.

Nami yo Kiitekure was a decent but mesmerizing anime focus on an extremely talkative but highly interesting Minare Koda's radio, romance and daily life and her hijinks she gets up to with all the characters surrounding her getting wrapped up in it all. Sure it looks at radio and the somewhat inner workings of it but Nami yo Kiitekure seems a little bit more interested in Minare but to be fair Minare herself is uniquely interesting herself.

All in all, Nami yo Kiitekure IS Minare Koda's story and life and due to this you're perspective of this anime will entirely depend on Minare Koda and as for LA, Nami yo Kiitekure was a decent romp into Minare Koda's life, quirks and all but was it a "masterpiece"?, well...it was merely decent, interesting in certain angles but nonetheless interestingly decent, much like Minare Koda's daily life as a radio jockey.

I feel like I should preface my review by saying that I have never reviewed any anime before and as such, I do not feel qualified to judge the animation, art or any such technical aspects of Nami yo Kiitekure.
Instead, I want to share why this anime struck a special cord with me and why I think you should watch it.

One's twenties. More so than any other age in life, it's a time of transition. From student life, free from responsibilities to the life of a working professional, faced with the burdens of rent, food and the doldrums of the workplace. One's social ... environment also begins to change. You can no longer count on seeing your friends every day in school. Romantic relationships, obviously, change as well.
As a "young adult" thrust into society to fend for themselves, this transition can often be jarring and Nami yo Kiitekure attempts to portray one such story.
Through the 12 odd episodes, 26 year old Koda Minare deals with heartbreak, workplace conflict and her own inner demons all the while trying to find her purpose in life. Her behavior is rarely likable, but always relatable. Her unconventional journey of self-reflection through the medium of radio is unbelievably gripping.
She is helped along by a well written supporting cast who pick up after the tidal wave that is Minare, while dealing with their own struggles.
Romance is dealt with in a very mature, realistic fashion. If you've ever had a relationship go wrong, Minare's struggles will will make your heart ache in sympathy as she deals the with pain of an abrupt end to a relationship.
All the anger and grief and yet, a tiny speck of hope remains. It makes her incredibly human.

While the anime might not be for everyone, if you're a 20-something, drifting through through the stormy sea of life as an adult, you should absolutely give this a shot. Maybe it will help you embark on a reflective journey of your own as it certainly did for me.

My point of entry for discovering this series was from SingleH's review and quickly realizing during the first episode that this reminds me of Odd Taxi. The similarity is that both shows have a focus on human drama with strong characterization and focus on their relationships. Our strong, female protagonist, Minare, is caught between her two jobs as a waitress and, as fate would have it, a radio host. Minare is loud, emotional, and doesn't have a problem sharing her feelings with others, drunk or not. Her transition into a DJ is pretty gradual, and she is still a waitress for the length of the ... show, so it's really about her then her growth into this new role. I really liked watching the development of the plot and learning more about the characters. Everyone praises Wave, Listen to Me for it's realistic writing and I can confirm that with their personalities, the way they talk to each other, and little misunderstandings.

My only real complaint comes from the presentation. I get the kind of art style they were going for that leans realistic but the characters dip into the uncanny valley a little bit. There is something about the shadow effect they put in everyone's eyes that looks a bit odd to me, and the weird handlebar mustaches two of the men are sporting. Also, the show is humorous but I didn't laugh much at it. The jokes never felt out of place or overstayed their welcome, but wasn't often witty. That said, this is a nice little story that is very grounded and real. If you like a lot of talking and that kind of writing, then this is for you.

I was sick as a dog when I watched the first episode and my god, was it both the weirdest and greatest experience of my life. A radio show host describing themselves being attacked by a bear! No context at all, just them in a situation where they have to either run or fight a bear in the middle of the woods at the dead of night!

It was fucking GREAT!

And after that despite me getting better, the show never stopped being great! For me this show was my hidden gem ... of the Spring 2020 series since I only picked it up to fill a hole in my schedule. I barely read the synopsis at the time, figured this show would either be fair or less, and in my fever fit mind I didn't care.

But no, this show surpassed SO many others this season! Young mid to late-20 something woman goes from being a waitress to radio over ridiculous events and becomes a decent hit! Its radio in 2020..what do you expect? Fame and stardom in radio LOL

She finds her nitch in late night radio where different scenarios are presented to her and she has to act them out. And she does so very well! Very well rounded characters surround this amateur, hotheaded radio host. She has the sociopath ex, the chef that adores her but is also very kindhearted, the awkward radio friend who has hard to feed turtles, and etc etc. They're all great!

This show is both incredibly weird and touching in a way. I feel like in the end its a show of humans just being humans. Growing, not growing, living, not living. Its just about people in their daily lives. And also weird scenarios in radio at the dead of night. <3

This is a show that I believe could have been a 9 or close to a 10 if the side characters had any depth to them. As it stands, only the main character shows any willingness or ability to grow as a person. There is one other character that showed signs of potential growth, but the writers didn't give them enough of a chance in this season. Every other character is 1 dimensional at best and that is generous for some characters.

What makes this anime great is the premise and story, which are exceptionally unique and well-written. The series takes the intimate yet limited concept ... of radio and audio-only communication and breathes an extra dimension of life into it. Whether it is used for comedy, a distraction, comfort, or information, Nami yo Kiitekure plants the passions and hard work of those in the radio media industry into your heart. It allows for a new perspective on a fading yet important part of the past half-century.

So while the characters and their relationships are fairly bland, but this was a rare situation for me that the one-of-a-kind plot and non-traditional story-telling more than made up for this. Overall, this show won over me, a "characters are everything" SoL snob.

Review:

The main idea of this anime for me is to introduce the radio industry and the relevance of it nowadays. It seems boring at first, but when it's done through everyday life lens, add a splash of jokes, you get this wonderfully entertaining anime. It's so absurd, so funny, yet still relatable. It's also educational to some degree as they explained how radio industry works, who involved, how ... to run a program, how to be a DJ, basic explanation of various words used normally, etc. This is truly an amazing anime that I don't expect to come from a studio like Sunrise and I hope it gets more exposure, it's like a fresh breath story wise for the anime nowadays.

The visuals are deceptive, at first I thought it will be somewhere on mediocre level, but it's not, all of them are of high standard, the character, the details, the buildings, the various objects, and they even made the animation smooth enough compared to many anime out there. I'm amazed especially with the details of equipment in the radio station, it's accurate for most of it, and therefore fulfill it's role in educational purpose to introduce the viewers to some of the equipments used in radio industry nowadays.

I must praise this anime for the theme songs, both the opening and the ending are great, it's so fitting with the anime, and they also included beautiful animation for both OP and ED, not skimping on this one is an easy +1 for me. The voice actors are energetic and full of life, those are the words to describe them, you can feel the passion of each of them, they get noisy sometimes but it's not annoying, it took some special talent to be able to pull such act. The sound effect are not falling short, with radio industry as it's main theme, it sure did a job worthy to represent such media that rely only on audio. The audio in this anime is just simply superb.

Minare Koda is a waitress at a curry restaurant who after getting dumped goes on a drunken rant to a stranger. To her utter dismay, she hears her rant on the radio the next day. In a rage, she rushes to the radio station to confront the stranger who she discovers is a radio executive. Before she knows it, she's offered a job and starts a career as a radio personality. She meets new people and through her strengthening bond with listeners tries to come to terms with her life and chart a course for her future. I really liked Minare. She was authentic, honest, ... and flawed. She was clearly a woman who wasn't sure what to do with her life. But, over the course of 12 episodes she grew so much and slowly emerged as a more confident and positive individual. The other characters shone as well including Matou (radio exec), Nakahara (dude that had a crush on her), and Tachibana (an unhappy woman with an overprotective brother). Put together, they really made the show pop!Also, the themes of coming to grips with life and the power of community were evident. It was also a celebration of radio as a medium of communication and how in times of need, the radio is always there.

Not much happens in this show, the character growth and development is in small increments and the plot doesn't careen towards an explosive conclusion. But, it tells a simple and relatable story, and for that reason, it was a pleasure to watch. Also, the music is incredible, and in their usual style, Tacica produced another masterpiece of an opening.

Nami yo Kiitekure's first few episodes were actually brilliant. I really like how the animation manages to pair well with the Radio narration of our protagonist. Sure, Radio shows only use audio, but Nami yo Kiitekure managed to make a decent visualization on all the scenarios that Minare manages to make up during the show's airing. Plus, the anime has surprisingly good production value when it comes to animation.
It's rare to see radio entertainment being done, usually the entertainment industry anime are limited to idol groups or very infrequently, acting. I'm not a big fan at all of idol group anime, so it's nice to ... see a show that has the entertainment industry as a focus. It's not just the industry that's different, though. Nami yo Kiitekure definitely has a more seinen and slice of life feeling than other entertainment industry focused anime. That is, while radio certainly is a big part of the plot, it isn't always the focus of the story: in fact, it's more of a supporting role that brings the story together rather than being the main theme. It's more about Minare and her experiences in life, and her translation of those experiences into her radio show. This was pretty interesting. While I don't think the radio shows in particular had any charm, it's more of the fact of how Minare managed to weave that story in the first place. What spurred her on to say those things? That's what the radio show really adds to the story. You can see this lack of focus on radio even more when you're looking at just her job. It's a part time job which can't even pay the bills, and it's at 3 AM in the morning with little listeners. It's a blip in her life story, yet something that she comes to become more invested in as the story goes on.
However, the experiences she goes through can only be said to be unrealistic. Recall how I said that it's more of a slice of life sort of anime? Well, that's not entirely true. A lot of the scenarios she goes through are pretty unrealistic and the show doesn't bother to hide it, either. They themselves know that some of the things are a stretch, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. They turned something that could have been the mundane into something unrealistic and more exciting. While this is certainly much easier for the author to translate these exciting experiences into the radio shows and progressing character development, it really hurts the overall atmosphere of the show. If a show is about the feelings and experiences of Minare, then it should only be right that she goes through situations which could possibly be feasible.
This applies to new characters as well. While none of Minare's coworkers are introduced in a bad way at MRS, the radio station, Makie gets introduced in a very bizarre and forced manner. Her entire story arc is just unusual and doesn't make a lot of sense, and the anime certainly doesn't bring much of a focus to her feelings regardless. She gets into a car accident, She was kept captive, yet is obedient to her brother, works at the curry shop as a result, and is connected to radio...of course.

Other than Makie though, I enjoy the characters for what they are. There actually is quite a cast of characters, but too bad that most of them don't get a lot of spotlight. What really killed this show for me was definitely the unrealistic scenarios that Minare repeatedly gets put in, and the fact that the radio shows that Minare hosts are particularly interesting in their own right.

I can say I really enjoyed this anime a lot. A big part of its strength is its characters, espeicially the main character. If you enjoy her, then a big part of the anime you'd enjoy.
I just love her voice and delivery! ahhha the side characters are cool too. It's really good! I can admit, it might not be for everyone - but boy I really enjoyed this anime a lot. I recommend it.

Songs are great, opening and endings fit the anime a lot.

Artstyle took some time to get used to - at least the eyes. Other wise, the characters look realistic with a nice ... stylistic choice.

The plot gets a big crazy, but just like radio shows, you get sucked into the fun rather than the actual arcs XD it's one big crazy ride and it's part of why I love it so much.

I highly recommend this anime a lot.

Most series that don't feature teenage protagonists or a high school setting will almost always get a look & this was easily the standout of the year. After a somewhat less-than-ethical recruitment process, a woman gets a job hosting a late-night program on local radio. It's an off-beat combination of storytelling, interviews & (in a pivotal story sequence) real-time reporting.
This is one of those series that isn't quite a comedy, drama or slice-of-life but it will have you laughing, tug at those heartstrings & develop its characters through stand-alone gag sequences that border on ridiculous! Slightly absurd situations aside, this is a remarkably grounded ... series, mainly thanks to it's setting (a very well realised Hokkaido) & cast of characters.
Protagonist Minare is a bit of a mess, but unlike other mid-20s anime women (who're typically reduced to collections of tropes, gags & seem like nothing more than the cartoon characters they are), she's believable. Her behaviour, attitude & actions may seem exaggerated for comedic effect, but there's an element of sincerity (big props to Riho Sugiyama, for probably the best VA performance of the year) that makes her such a compelling character, & makes this such a charming, entertaining series.

I really feel like I needed to make a review for this series.

STORY:7

the main reson I didn't rate this higher is due to the lack of finish off the plot and character development. I guess when I went into this anime I had seen a youtube review of it , and what i got from it was girl does a radion show. I liked the girls personaloity so I watched it. was hooked from episode one. In a way I feel like it focused to much on the main protagonists (minore) ex boyfriend. I started wondering about hlaf way through will there be another chapter ... of her romantic interests?? ehhh I'm starting to ramble a bit (just like the show :) I tried explaining the plot to a friend and found it really hard to describe in an interesting way... IDK but i think that kinda sums up how I feel about the story... It is good but starts to drag wehen the main romance plot is dragging on with minore just doubting herself in the end... if it weas longer it might have been better although i feel 24 eppisodes would have been too much.


ART: 7

The art is solid. I really like the character designs. The animation didnt seem to sloppy. The op and ed had really goood animation and didnt spoil the plot which can sometime happen in shows. on a little offtopic there is minamal fanservice in the show can count maybe 3 from memory which is rare now a days. Alsways looking for something i could show my overtly strict parents.


SOUND: 10

The sound strangely enough was one of my favourite parts of this show. I loved both the OOP and ED. I really loved the main characters VA, They all are really pleasing to lisen to ( and holy shit Mizuho's VA was so cute) Modoka's VA when speakling english sounds like a different person in a cool way.


I guess those are the main points I wanted to address. The characters were pretty much all enjoyable (except for tachibana's brother he kinda pissed me off with his overprotectivenessand the fact that they didnt develop him more showiing that he changed and was less overprotective towards her)

would rewatch would like to own the BR if under 40 usd hopefull a season 2 comes out and elaborates more and gives a "true" end but I dont know the source material to know how much there is left

i am quite surprised that none of my anime-loving friends have mentioned this anime, especially since it came out last year. this has been like a breath of fresh air with all of the fantasy-based stuff i've been watching.

i really enjoyed this anime for the fact that it's super unique from what i've seen so far. an anime about a radio host? where have you seen that done already?

the humor that the main character brings to this show is hilarious and goes to show how creative a person's mind can be with how quickly she jumps to conclusions and is able to come ... up with stories for her air-time.

the side-characters' stories are also interesting and aren't just thrown in there for the hell of it. but yet they help further the story of the anime as a whole.

honestly, i would recommend this to someone in a heartbeat.

For a romance anime, this is a 9/10. It has a definite ending which leaves the user fully satisfied. The romantic interests are fully valid and viable. There is a realism to it which keeps the viewer watching.

For a slice of life anime, this is a 10/10. I felt fully absorbed and represented as a 20-something woman with bad luck in work and love. The only nitpick here is that there is some anti-gay sentiment, but even that is handled nicely with some pro-LGBT and some anti-LGBT. It's mere coincidence that the MC is anti.

For an action/adventure anime, this is maybe a 7/10. Although the ... adventure and combat aspects are well done and add to the story, they are not so spectacular that they could carry themselves as anime shorts.

For a comedy anime, this is a 10/10. The slapstick nature of its scenes captivated me in a way that I haven't experienced since K-On first aired. Nearly every episode was a knee slapper!

All in all, this is a solid 10/10 for me. The top-tier characters and plot development in addition to the romantic and adulthood realism were together the perfect escape from the teenager-centric style which plagues anime today. (Seriously, can we get another Samurai Champloo?)

This entire anime (or at least to episode 9) is like watching the beginning of Black Clover where Asta's character was just "obnoxious screaming".

The lead is loud, obnoxious, and unfunny. The side characters have more interesting things happening in their lives than the mc. Idk if I can finish this garbage. Like can ANYTHING interesting happen.

Can the Mc die and we just switch over to the rest of the cast. I promise, RIGHT NOW, if that happens I'll give this anime a 6 maybe a 7. The one thing I want to see is this MC get some kind of deserving punishments for screwing ... over her neighbor constantly.
