Finally an anime that is relatable to all us normal lads, as a complete genius good looking nerd with no friends in school, I would have five beautiful girls falling all over me all the time, why wouldn't they just leave me alone so i could study even though I score 100% on every test? Kapp

5 girls, 3 ones that aren't complete assholes, 2 with likeable personality traits and a protagonist with no personality at all. No real discussion for which someone would choose, I mean it's a harem anime so what do you expect? The storyline is not great, but the comedy redeems it ... somewhat.

TL:DR - Worth a watch if you like comedy anime and you feel you have nothing else to watch right now.

Never been a huge fan of these types of stories. Harem's generally speaking, but more particularly stories with content that doesnt seem to "matter".

What I mean by that is, stories with this kind of structure have you going through the motions until the pre-determined end. That being the MC ending up with one of the 5 sisters. In this story, they make that super obvious. So the "point" of the story is to see which one he gets together with. The enjoyment you then derive form watching/reading is picking a girl and then hoping she wins. However, ... that is where I think this falls flat, not just for this story, but a lot of them.

Giving each girl screen time is necessary to keep up the illusion of a contest, but it comes at a huge detriment to the overall narrative. If each girl is having these life altering revelations over this one guy, then it can be hard to root for a single one. It also devalues the next life alerting event to a certain extent. It creates this endless merry-go-round of who "deserves" to be with MC which gets messier with each pass. This show covered about 32 chapters of the current 98 out right now, and that sounds absolutely exhausting to me. I imagine it just constantly goes back and forth between girls until you dont know who you want anymore. Each nice moment is overshadowed by the next until nothing holds weight anymore. Thats what I mean by content that doesnt seem to matter. You are completly at the creators whim, who likely already picked who it would be before even starting the story.

I dont know, maybe these kinds of stories just arnt for me. I didnt hate it, but it just seemed so pointless to me.

The author is painfully aware of the fact that the plot acts as nothing but a contrivance for the five waifu archetypes to have the hots for generic Japanese boy-man-creature. Typical harem story with predictable twists and an idiot plot, i.e., a plot that only exists because every single character is a complete idiot. At least the character designs are distinct but that's like saying you have nice hair when being forced to complement a squinting, cross-eyed, buck-toothed wench. 0/10

But it does have Miku, who seems to have been scientifically designed to make my heart melt. Everything about her, from her personality to every little ... aspect of her character design seems mathematically perfected just for me. Full score for Miku. 10/10 best girl. Fight me.

I'm honestly kinda shocked. I had extremely low expectations for this show given it's a 5-sister harem. I was pleasantly surprised, the show was quite entertaining. Be warned that this show is very very hated and in my opinion extremely underrated. There isn't as much romance as you may expect and it's more so comedy but I think that the comedy is good and was pretty funny. A big plus I give to this show is the voice acting, it's on point and made the show really engaging for me, specifically yotsuba's VA, she brought a lot of energy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ... promise that if you go into watching this with a positive outlook with an intent to enjoy, you will enjoy this show. The pacing isn't slow and keeps things moving which prevented boredom that I find so much in other romcom and the humor isn't stupid and has creativity. I think that the show slowed towards the final few episodes of the season to develop characters a little more. Additionally, there are some stupid elements to the show that might have you shaking your head but it really isn't that bad, trust me. I feel that people on MAL see something stupid and just go apeshit over it and proceed to hop on the forum and rate the show 1/10. Like sorry you didn't like this one minuscule detail. Well, what we have here is the classic harem, ecchi, romance and comedy... Wait!? Is he really going to choose one of them to marry? How incredible :O. Talking more seriously, Gotoubun is the classic cliche anime, with generic characters like Nino and Miku who are respectively tsundere and kuudere. But even so, it is no less fun, the characters complete in an interesting way, taking the fact that the protagonist is blind and not differentiate the twins if they change the hairstyle, seriously, the girl continues with the original hair tone the clothes, but you still do not notice the DIFFERENCE? This changes a ... bit near the end of the anime, but overall it's a simple anime with a simple proposal (it's going to have one in the same footprint in the April season). (I apologize for my spelling mistakes)

(Pt-BR) Bem, o que temos aqui é o clássico harém, ecchi, romance e comédia... Wait!? Ele realmente vai escolher uma delas para casar? Que incrível :O. Falando mais sério, Gotoubun é o clássico anime clichê, com personagens genéricas como a Nino e Miku que são respectivamente tsundere e kuudere. Porém, nem por isso ele deixa de ser minimamente divertido, os personagens se completam de uma forma interessante, tirando o fato do protagonista ser cego e não diferenciar as gêmeas se elas mudarem o penteado, sério, a garota continua com o tom de cabelo original a roupa, mas você ainda não nota diferença? Isso muda um pouco perto do final do anime, mas no geral é um anime simples com uma proposta simples (vai ter um nessa mesma pegada na temporada de abril).

The Quintessential Quintuplets (QQ) is a show that I enjoyed. Not so much that I say, it was good but fine enough that all the other shows I rated as such need to be reevaluated whether they need to be lower on the totem pole.

It also had the distinct honor of being the second show I watched this season that ends on a "go read the manga" episode. I could go on a whole tangent on the merits of this ending vs. the "hey there could be a sequel" ending that most of the time never happens in anime, but I won't linger on ... that. It should also be said that some of my fellow seasonal watchers have told me that the manga is the better alternative as the show tends to rush things.

Honestly, now that I think of it most of the show was a blur for me. It had some sweet moments, I was rooting for Miku for the show's duration, but I felt they didn't take long enough to explore each of the sister's merits as thoroughly as I would have liked. Futaro seems like an alright fellow he is very diligent and earnest.

Most harem-animes do nothing for me. The reason is obvious, i’ve seen them all. Even before i got a MAL account back when i was watching anime on the family computer, i was watching harem-animes. Despite this, 5-toubun made me feel, now i’ll admit it wasn’t much, but at least i felt something. What a pleasant surprise.

A decently characterized cast:
Tropes aren’t inherently bad, some animes embrace them and make them into strengths (Bakemonogatari for example). This anime succeeds to some degree and at least makes attempts. Characters are important in harem animes, especially the main girls. I can describe the characters-traits of 4 out ... of 5 of the main girls. 2 of the 5 i can go more in-depth on. This cast is therefore strong enough for me to enjoy it. All the girls are distinct and at least 2 of them have depth beyond the tropes they fit into. It’s not some award-winning writing but it does it’s job and got me more invested than i usually am in harem and school-life shows. Some characters are obviously weaker, like the MC. His primary job is to function as a self insert for the viewer. He is very forgettable and couldn’t carry the show on his own in the same way a harem MC like Hachiman could. Overall though, the characters are good enough to keep me mildly emotionally invested. This is a rarity for me so this anime does a way better job then most harems.

What sets this harem-anime apart:
There is one aspect of harem-relationships that most writers shy away from exploring. Realistically, most harems should end in tragedy. If you have a harem with one boy and two or more girls, unless you’re polygamous, only one of the girls are gonna get the “happy ending”, the rest will have their hearts broken and leave with nothing. Writers dodge this in many ways, usually by making the MC completely oblivious to romantic advances or never letting harems reach their conclusions. They also often completely ignore the conflict that would ensue as multiple people are desperately fighting to gain the affection of the same person. This anime however puts on display more than most others, the conflicts and troubles that occur as 5 sisters are all trying to charm the same guy whilst simultaneously keeping their relationships with each other intact. The show also makes it clear that this harem has a conclusion and doesn’t shy away from that fact. In the show we repeatedly get visions of the future that shows the MC getting married to one of the 5 girls. The visions never shows which one of the girls but it is nonetheless made clear that this harem has a definitive end. The main cast of this show actually struggled on occasion and their harem-relationship sometimes put them in distress or tough spots which in turn made characters in the show actually develop and evolve. This in turn made me more invested in them.

Concluding:
I understand that the bar is really low when i’m praising a show for simply including some basic character development or giving the main cast some basic personalities and personality-traits. Some basic realism and common sense shouldn’t be enough to set a harem-anime apart from the rest but sadly, in accordance with most harem-anime today, it is. I actually became a bit invested in this anime and found that i somewhat enjoyed the main cast and the story. This anime isn’t great but compared to most harem i’ve seen, above average. If that’s what you’re looking for you’re in the right place.

There’s a particular kind of frustration associated with a show like The Quintessential Quintuplets, the kind of frustration resulting from recognizing a show that’s so painfully close to being good you can almost taste it. And not just good, but good in a way that doesn’t usually work for you, good in terms of a genre that has almost never connected with you, good in a way that could serve as proof positive for the potential of an entire style of storytelling to finally work its magic on you and overcome your ingrained distaste for where it’s coming from. As someone who has overall enjoyed ... maybe one traditional harem anime in his life (Zero no Tsukaima, before it all went to shit), the sensation of finding myself getting sucked into The Quints was so unexpected and refreshing that I found myself wanting to overlook all its obvious flaws and just let myself enjoy it. Sadly, while the core itself is solid, there are just too many little things that don’t work over the course of its run, too many frustrating distractions for me to consider it a worthwhile investment. But we almost made it, lads. We almost had another harem anime that spoke to me. If nothing else, I can’t help but find a little hope in that.

At any rate, the plot follows the typical harem formula of one dude surrounded by a bunch of female fetish archetypes who all start to fall for him, though the specifics of how it’s implemented this time around are unique enough to warrant interest. Futaro Uesugi is an A+ honors student from a poor family, desperately trying to keep his grades up in order to go to a good college and provide for his father and adorable little sister (don’t worry, she’s explicitly not part of the harem this time). But a chance encounter provides him an unexpected opportunity to earn some much-needed cash: by tutoring, as the name suggests, a set of quintuplet sisters from a rich family who all have their unique talents and skills, but are academically dumb as a bag of rocks. Futaro’s the kind of grump who would much rather study on his own than be forced into human interaction, but the appeal of a high salary is too much for him, so he sets about trying to tutor these five girls and bump their grades up to acceptable levels. Very soon, the realization sets in that if he’s going to overcome their distaste of studying in general and him in particular, he’s going to have to help them through their various emotional hang-ups, many of which relate to the complicated nature of being one fifth of such a massive family unit. Thus, the stage is set for butting heads and romantic tension aplenty, as Futaro and the girls slowly open up to each other over time.

So like I said, it’s a fairly typical harem set up on the surface, and you’d be forgiven for thinking it had little to set it apart from the general low quality of such shows. And yet, while it does stumble into plenty of the cliches you’d expect- accidental groping, walking into someone else naked because nobody locks their damn door- the foundational writing at the core of the thing is shockingly solid. All these characters actually feel like characters, as opposed to stock archetypes, with enough well-defined motivations and hang-ups to justify the ridiculous situations they often find themselves in. Miku, the shy one, is also a massive history buff with a far keener perception than first glance would let on. Ichika, technically the eldest of the five, has a surprisingly complex outlook on her sisters’ complicated relationship. Futaro himself is enough of an acerbic wit to counterbalance the usual harem problem of the guy being a completely uninteresting pile of mush; he can easily stand toe to toe with his love interests, comedically and dramatically. And there’s a genuine reality to all their interactions, a sense that the loss of any one of them would fundamentally change the way the show operates. That’s the mark of a good ensemble cast; everyone, even the initially-hard-to-stomach abrasive tsundere, feels essential. It’s a dynamic that you want to get invested in, because it’s well-realized enough to warrant that level of investment.

Sadly, as much as I wanted to like The Quints for its smart handling of the harem formula, it’s let down by a production that is, quite frankly, amateurish as hell. Time was clearly poorly allocated over the course of pulling this show together, because the animation starts getting janky by the second episode and never really recovers. Left on their own, the character designs of all the girls are all pretty attractive, but in motion, they all feel stiff and lifeless, bereft of personality that the VAs try admirably to cover for with their expressive performances. And look, I can handle a little less-than-perfect animation if it comes to that, but the way this show is so haphazardly slapped together ends up killing the pacing and driving a wedge through a good chunk of the otherwise very strong comedy. Jokes can’t land with their intended force if the animation is awkwardly flailing to catch up to the punch line and highlighting just how unmatched these rough cuts are to this vibrant, bouncy tonal sensibility. It creates a distracting layer of unreality about the world; the way scenes flow and move into each other feels stilted and discordant in a way that makes the actions of the characters feel not grounded in the reality of their situation. The writing goes to such lengths to make them feel like sensible, understandable characters, but the awkwardness of the production makes them feel like aliens with no comprehension of how to react to any situation normally.

There’s also some weird business about how since they’re quintuplets, the girls are all supposedly impossible to tell apart when they pretend to be each other, a concept mined for both comedy and emotional weight, yet the character designer gave them all such distinct hair colors that you’d have to be an idiot not to recognize them as themselves. And that leads to bizarre moments where Futaro will mistake a girl for one of his sisters, despite the audience clearly being able to tell by her hair color who it truly is, yet the show still treats it as a shocking reveal when Futaro realizes that fact for himself. I have no idea if the obvious unbelievability of this nonsense was supposed to be the point of the joke, like it’s supposed to be funny that Futaro keeps confusing them for each other despite them being very distinct. There’s one particular scene where all five of them have to sneak by an authority figure by dressing up and pretending to be the same quintuplet, and the parade of different hair colors doing nothing to tip him off is so bizarrely goofy that I can’t help but feel like that was the intended effect. But other times, it feels like we’re supposed to be genuinely surprised upon finding out someone’s true identity, and I have no idea why. Did someone in the production team genuinely think we couldn’t tell hair colors apart? Because if not, it’s a baffingly idiotic decision, emblematic of the carelessness of the entire damn production. It’s an inescapable, constant flaw that drags the entire show down, burying its strengths in a much of incomprehensible presentation.

And yet. And yet, I still really want to hold out hope for The Quintessential Quintuplets. The fact that it was able to connect with me at all, when I so rarely find any value in the harem genre, speaks volumes to the level of effort that went into it. This wasn’t some half-assed story someone slapped together for a quick buck; there was care and effort put into it. And had the production been able to match it, we may have genuinely had a new harem classic on our hands. Perhaps if it gets picked up for a second season, Tezuka Productions can finally give it the time and attention it deserves. But until then, I’m just left wishing that this obvious gem was delivered clean of unnecessary, muddying tarnish.

TL;DR Review

Going into "Gotoubun no Hanayome," I wasn't expecting too much. Mainly because it has a harem tag, and I'm not too big of a fan of harem. However, finally finishing the show in a couple of days, I can tell you that it's a bit better than I thought. The story flows kind of nicely, but sometimes there's just too much coincidence to be actually believable for an anime like this. Secondly, the characters in this show adapt quite a lot. We get introduced to five potential brides and, to be honest, they are all lacking something. It's always just your typical harem girl ... personalities. Overall, I would only recommend this anime if you just have nothing to watch and need something to stare at.

What is a good romance? Especially for those who haven't experienced true love like many of us? If you're looking for the answers in 5-toubun no Hanayome, unfortunately, you won't find any.

Produced by studio Tezuka, known for many great classic like Astro Boy, Sakamichi no Apollon, Black Jack and its lastest addition still lingers in our mind, Dororo... seem like a romcom is not their streghth and it shows clearly in the show.

Even though its lazy writing, I'll pass and will talk mostly about the characters. Imo, The five twins carried the show, their characters are unique and likable. To me, they're equally as good ... and given proper time to shine. I personally enjoy watching Yotsuba the most (no shipping). And now, to the worst part, the male character. There's always a trope in anime no matter how smart or talented a person is, he's always mistreating the girls and massively unreasonable at times. It makes him a pain to watch. Is it how the author think real people will act? We never know. Sadly, Futarou is no exception. It downgraded the anime hugely.

On the other hand, the animation is quite good. The artstyle resembles the manga. That will satisfy its manga readers (Many I believe so), the voice castings are great to hear as always along with catchy op theme. Not so bad as the main characters.

Even so, I do believe this anime belongs to the better part of harem shows. If you have a few hours to spare, it surely will lighten up your time.

UuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I don't get what the shit is up with this anime and why so many people think it's the cat's meow. This show is so plain and reused material. This MC is literally the most copy paste MC you could ever find. Copy paste from ever romcom harem. The only redeeming unique feature ig is when he gets angry/scary when trying to get the girls to study. Even so he is lame like many protagonists. The girls don't get any better. I don't care if you say Miku best girl or Yotsuwhatsherface. They are such generic characters. Miku, she's ur classic shy, quiet type ... who secretly yearns for love, aka boring and used. Yostuba is classic energic, athletic, carefree girl. Oh where have I seen this? Like every fucking trash romcom. Nino? Acts all mature and like an Onee-san type but in reality wants to yearn for love too but cares for her family. Oh joy.....she's only like every onee-san in anime. Itsuki, tsundere...that's all I need to say. Literally the most common type in anime and she has no redeeming features that defines her. And last but worst, Nino. Fucking prick trash piece of shit. She's like every weak antagonist in anime, nobody remembers her and if they do it's as an asshole.

Ok, this anime has a mystery element to it. Who marries the MC in the end? Ok, interesting bc i'm supposed to care about these girls enough? Oh and what this anime is about: Dude is poor and is hired as a tutor for 5 rich girls who are also extremely dumb. In order to provide for his family he endures the hardships that come with it. Oh, where have I heard this one before? Oh yeah! Bokuben. Fucking Bokuben. Almost the exact same plot. Only difference is that these girls are all siblings (hence quintuplets) . I can never get into this anime cuz of how bad it is. I've watched plenty of animes with copypaste plots like this anime but a lot of them have some kind of interesting element that makes me be able to tolerate it. but Quintuplets, no just no. It is fucking intolerable of how shitty it is. Only good thing about this anime is slightly sister and the somewhat decent opening. I can't even find any of the girls cute because....i'll be honest... they look fugly and i'm a huge weeb. I know the manga is a lot better and crap but since i've only seen the anime i'll just say it's fucking shit. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk, we will see you tomorrow. I rate this a 5/10 and will never recommend.

The story and development of the plot overlaps with most within the heavily saturated harem market. Though the touch of having all the love interests be sisters is something original I guess.

The 5 sisters are written pretty good. Each has their own sorta tastes and interests which can be immediately discerned by their looks themselves. Would've like more varied interactions besides the standard gag situations and misunderstandings. But I mean I thought some of the jokes were good atleast.

Has enough twist to satisfy but doesn't quite make it home.

Enjoyment and Overall

Something to watch after a bunch of the same stuff over and over again. Though not original enough to break away, it's like adding lime to a taco: Its ok, but the zing makes it stand out a bit more.

Quintessential Quintuplets designs their harem in a rather interesting way: having our lovable Fuutaro be surrounded by five, spoiled brats who are all sisters. That last remark only applies to them for about half of the show (except Nino but we'll get there). Yes, I know who he gets with, and honestly it would've been better if they all married him. QQ is an anime I've heard about constantly for the girls being "best girl" and I even went to read the manga, but I dropped it at volume 5 (where the first season ends at); no particular reason honestly; I just stopped reading and ... now use the volumes as means to prop up my other manga to have a two pillars for my manga shelf. Listen, I get it; five busty girls secretly fighting over you is a dream, but we must awaken from our deluded fantasies and realize QQ is not as good as everyone says.

Reviewing more and more (still a bit of an amateur) has shown that I should provide more structure so let's start with:

PLOT
Fuutaro, a boy in poverty with a dad in severe debt is hired by a rich man to tutor his five daughters, who are all quintuplets. Through trial by fire, he is slowly able to lukewarmly get them to like him. Half of the girls, Ichika and Miku, develop romantic feelings for him while the others, Itsuki and Nino, still are struggling to trust him. Yotsuba is kinda here to be honest; her personality conveys that she likes everyone, so Fuutaro never had to win her over. What makes the story unenjoyable at most times is having the five sisters be annoying and actively refusing to study. And they are all failing horribly, though Itsuki herself at least tries to study on her own. When they aren't being insufferable, they spend all their time with each other talking about how great or awful Fuutaro is; the other times they must make us remember they are, in fact, quintuplets. The dialogue gets old fast, and I feel it will only get worse as more of them start to desire Fuutaro. I'll give it props for not doing the festival episode as their last episode; it's quite refreshing, but the drink has still been left out on a hot summer in July.

Characters
Let it be stated right here: Fuutaro carries this show, no debate. He stands out from most harem MCs by having a personality and not letting the girls be rude to him. He is hilarious and his VA (same as Inosuke from Demon Slayer) makes his tangents comedy gold. The girls themselves are... well, they exist. Listen, I know they don't know he's poor for the most part or that he needs this job; but when they refuse to do anything to help him, it comes off as unbearable. And yes, the mom is dead and the father is never home. It's such a cliche in these shows you can easily mark it off on your "Harem Bingo" (that isn't a thing but we really should!) Miku is one of my favorites for wanting to study and being the only sister to tell Nino to shut it. The other three (Nino gets her own segment) are ok. Nothing wrong with them, just ok. The only sisters that get a good amount of development are Miku and Ichika due to the 12 episodes. Yotsuba seems to have the least amount of screen time compared to others. She gets at least two scenes focused on her that I can remember. Yes, I found the girls unbearable at first, but that went away for the most part. Also, Fuutaro's dad is a dilf and I will not elaborate.

Nino
So many people say Nino is best girl, and I cannot see that at all (yes, season two is her moment to shine but this is season 1). She's the token tsundere, but even for a tsundere, she is an awful person. She drugged Fuutaro so he'd leave and then she openly mocks him for it with a smile. Everything she does is just out of spite and it's hard to watch. Her whole reason to be rude to him is because she believes their house is only for the five of them. While it is sweet in a way, she is rude to even her sisters so it comes off as selfish. When Miku and Fuutaro tries to study, she decides to have a cooking competition with Miku. Since she knows Miku is not a good cook, she does this just to embarrass her in front of her crush and fluent her ego. At one point, Fuutaro has to go back to their apartment to get something; Nino comes out with only a towel. Since she can't see without contacts, she doesn't know it him. Soon, books almost kill her (God missed) and Fuu saves her, only for Istuki to take a pic of it and hold a trial for sexual harassment. This scene isn't just about Nino but it was pretty bad; Miku tries to defend him but then takes it back once her crush side comes out a bit. This one might be nitpick, but when Nino found an old pic of Fuu when he met one of the sisters (he's 12), she calls him a "Hottie". Girl, that's a literal child and you're almost 18. WTF. Perhaps Nino developing a crush on Fuu will make her more enjoyable, but that can't change her awful actions.

The Rest
Voice acting is good; animation is eh, except when a scene to show off how attractive the girls are.

Conclusion
With all that said, why did I give the show a 6/10? To be fair, Fuutaro is a great main character and the sisters are hit or miss on if they will have a good scene. The best times were when they were attempting to study because it shows the growth of their character. I'll watch season two soon, but I am hesitate because I feel all of them crushing on Best Boi will make or break the show. It was already getting old having every scene between Ichika and Miku be about Fuutaro (do they have nothing to talk about?). Let's rank the girls to conclude the review.

This is like we never learn but not funny, not even the slightest, and with more cute waifus being quintuplets... seriously, totally overrated show, it's an ok one but... 7.5 mean? dafuq?.

Characters are nice... but plain stereotypes, the main characters is fucking stupid, more than everyone I fucking ever seen on a harem comedy, the comedy is fucking inexistant, with one or two good laughs...

This show is not boring... but just... I don't know how to explain how I see it with words... but plain I think is the word. Just like I said on the first lane, you remove the good characters and the ... fun from we never learn and we have this... I think that's the best way to describe this anime. I don't put a 5 on this show because... I don't fucking know, probably is the correct record for this thing.

5-toubun at Hanayome is undoubtedly the best harem I have ever seen, which means a lot, but it is already enough for a genre that I consider very bad, like the worst genre.

To start what a good harem would do or do, well, everything that nicht harem actually do, characters that develop, that have a clear relationship with motives and reasons with the protagonist, charismatic characters that know how to be something that nicht the "harem girl", of course a protagonist capable of dealing with the whole harem situation without being a generic pervert or a fool that nicht touches that all girls love him.

Well ... The Quintessential Quintuplets gets it right on almost every issue, with a very original, but not very creative proposal (teacher teaching the harem), but this lack of creativity has the touch of the fact that all of the harem are sisters .... and twins ... and there are 5 of them. What generates fun scenes of their relationship as sisters, leaving a little of the generic harem where everything revolves around the protagonist, in this anime the characters do not depend entirely on him to be interesting.

I will try to evaluate each sister and then evaluate the protagonist. I can already say that the animation is nothing too much and nothing less, it is very good in a specific episode, but only in it and the rest is helpful.

Then:

Nakano, Itsuki -> I didn't read the manga, but I believe that it ends with the protagonist, since it has a whole vibe of "wife material", in my view one of the most embarrassing sisters, but it has a development regarding your relationship with the protagonist, then I earn bonus points.

Nakano, Miku -> (The system erased my analysis of it 2 times, so I wrote a lot, sorry Miku fans) -> I consider her one of the best sisters (the second), because she is the typical character to call "otakus" attention to see the anime, popularizing it, at the same time that it is very interesting and cute. The whole way she deals with her relationship with the protagonist and what she wants with her, forms a development for Miku, which makes me want to continue watching the anime, because as much as the chances of her being Uesugi wife is small, I really want to see the impact of the final decision on her.


Nakano, Nino -> Well ... I consider her the best sister, although she is super annoying in the anime, I know that if she existed I would want to be friends with her, because I think people like her are so funny. She definitely doesn't like the protagonist , but this concept evolves into her over time, and it happens in a very funny way. Not to mention that the whole thing about her being the sister who most cares about their sisterhood is very cute.

Nakano, Yotsuba -> I would undoubtedly want to be friends with her, in the plot she perfectly serves as a bonding tool between the protagonist and the sisters, being a very fun, friendly and especially ... stupid person, but in a cute way . I really like her, because in my view she is a member of the "harem" who has no romantic interest in the protagonist, she just likes him as a friend and wants to be with him, which I think is a really cool idea for a harem.

Nakano, Ichika -> I believe that the season wanted to generate an idea that Ichika is very mature, reliable, the typical "onee-san", and it did succesfully, but at the same time it put a certain depth in her character that I like, her micro-arc is very interesting, since it approaches the quintuple sisterhood in a very "mature" way that made me very happy, since I was expecting that it would just be another "harem onee-san".

Uesugi, Fuutarou -> Undoubtedly the best character, easily the best harem protagonist. In addition to being extremely fun to see his study addiction conflict with his "teenage excitement", seeing the whole way he transforms during the anime is also very good. The task of uniting sisters worked extremely well for this character, as he needed to understand that "adolescence" is not just studying but having fun, such a thing has been developing in the protagonist little by little during the season, thus being very human. Not to mention that the way he ignores Miku and Ichika for simply not caring about romance is absurdly funny, as I was terrified of him being a generic harem buff before watching. Also Raiha best girl.

Finally, I can say that unfortunately it is not worth watching 5-toubun at Hanayome, however, if you want to see something of a harem beast romance, I recommend this anime seriously, as it really stands out in this regard. I must see the second season now and I confess that I am afraid to become "Nisekoi" because of the photo shoot.

"The Quintessential Quintuplets" is what one should expect from a RomCom: cute girls, personality for all kinds of taste and a good guy main character.

As RomCom's, these shows need to have really good visuals, not only because normally the plot revolves around the cast of characters but also the ambiance and situations, they found themselves into; and, by no means this one is an exception. The animation and art-style fit really well with the show and despite them being quintuplets the studio is able to enhance really ... well the traits of each girl individually.

The transversal plot is well done in a sense that it splits itself: who is the girl he meet vs the girl he will end up with, which despite being well orchestrated doesn't mean it was very original to begin with. In addition, despite done sometime as well or better, follows many stereotypes from other series of its kind.

The development of the characters is decent, but many actions or decisions end up being predictable or forced in a way to fit into the plot. Nonetheless, it doesn't fall into the trap of making the male protagonist completely blank and uninteresting.

However, shows like this are not meant to be a masterpiece by any means, but one that many people can enjoy watching - as I did. The pretty art and characters and their interactions with each other create funny or beautiful scenes that bring a smile to any watcher. As a bonus, the mystery that is always floating around makes it so that people maintain their investment and best of all rooting for the best girl to win.

Was pretty good, character development was good, and then the ending came. Was a 7-8 for me then the ending brought it to a 4-5. Very cliche, and didn't find out who the person was although I could piece together an answer. The girls were good, MC was good, but the conclusion just went from 1-100 from good to cliche which is such a letdown. Honestly would have rather seen them extend the series another 3-4 episodes so we could get an understanding on why it ended up like that rather than a silly "legend" garbage which I honestly thought they wouldn't do even though ... it was hinted early on :/

Spoiler Free Animé Review:

→ Story:

The story kicks off with a young high-school student named Futaro Uesugi, who is essentially a closed-off, antisocial bookworm that earns perfect scores on all his schoolwork and is essentially an ace student. In addition, Futaro loves studying in his free time, and one day he decided to sit at his usual spot at the lunch table to study, only for a certain girl to sit there with him. This sounds like the ideal prodigy life that anyone would want............except that he's broke and his family is in debt. However, one day, Futaro's dad calls Futaro and offers him some ... good news! Due to his excellent academic work, Futaro has been offered a job by a rich man to tutor his daughters, who are all failing miserably at school with low grades. By accepting the job offer as a tutor, Futaro can essentially clear his family debt and earn some nice spending money for himself. However, little does he realize that the girl he met earlier at his lunch table, Itsuki Nakano, is a quintuplet and just like her sisters, she has little to no motivation to study and is rather bad academically in her schoolwork. Doing everything in his power, Futaro must try to win the quintuplets over because they all hate him and want to get rid of him due to seeing him as an outlier and a "third wheel" but in doing so, that would mean that the quintuplets would fail out of school. Towards the end of the animé, we do see Futaro marrying one of the quintuplets, whose identity is still unknown.

→ Characters:

I think that the characters are all pretty good and well-written. In addition, all of them have really good designs, including Futaro himself. I'll go over them all and say my general insight on them. I will rank the quintuplet girls in the order that I liked them, from most favorite to least favorite.

Futaro Uesugi → I really like him because he's funny and his humor on trying to get the quintuplets to stay on track, avoid distractions, and study just hits different, especially to college students like me. Plus, Futaro genuinely cares about all five of the quintuplets, which is sweet considering that at the start of the animé, all five hated his guts, wanted nothing to do with him, and did everything in their power to get rid of him because he was essentially seen as the third wheel and the outlier of the group.

1. Nino Nakano → I personally love Nino the most. She's the Tsundere of the group and yes, she's mean, rude, and disrespectful to Futaro at first and the most vehemently opposed to letting Futaro tutor her and her sisters, but towards the latter portion of the season one finale, Nino finally warms up to, and accepts, Futaro as part of the group. Need I mention that as early as episode one, Nino legit drugged Futaro by adding sleeping pills in his water and threw him in a taxi just to get rid of him. However, despite that, just seeing her turn 180 degrees from wanting Futaro dead at her feet to actually caring about his well-being and his health when he got sick with high fever towards the end is just super sweet and warmed my heart, so Nino ranks as best girl to me. Plus, who wouldn't want Nino as a wife? Once you get past the tough layers, she's actually super sweet, caring, kind, and on top of all of that, the cherry on top, she's an excellent cook.

2. Miku Nakano → Miku is more-so the shy one of the pack. She is typically very mellow and soft-spoken, kind of like the Dandere of the group. She isn't as violent, or as opposed, to letting Futaro tutor her but she wasn't on board with it on the first few episodes. Miku is a really good character. Not as good as my Nino, but not bad either. I liked her love and devotion of Japanese Shoguns and Warlords. Her love of Matcha Green Tea is also cute as well along with her signature headphones. Plus, if a fight breaks out between the quintuplets, Miku is typically the one to step up to the plate and diffuse it, which is always refreshing to see in a character. Just don't let Miku cook any food for you, her cooking skills are shown to be quite awful, with the food she serves being typically burnt to the point of it being inedible.

3. Yotsuba Nakano → I am kind of indifferent to Yotsuba. She's the athletic, energetic one of the pack and I get why she's there, for comic relief, but she didn't really do it for me either. Often times, her hyperactive energy felt a bit forced and annoying at times to the point where it became unbearable to watch. She also felt like she didn't do much of anything throughout the entirety of the season. She had her moments though but it wasn't enough and her hyperactivity was a bit hard for me to sit through at times. I will give Yotsuba credit for turning down the women's basketball team's offer to become an athlete so she could study with Futaro, that was sweet.

4. Ichika Nakano → She was honestly super mid and boring to me. I'm just not a fan of the big sister type and she didn't do too much else. I barely even remember much of her at all and I literally just finished watching season one of the animé. However, to Ichika's credit, at least the animé gave us an answer as to why she's always so fatigued with a messy room, because balancing school with her part time job as an actress fatigues her. If I didn't know that Ichika was an actress on top of balancing schoolwork, Ichika would be tagged as a lazy, disorganized slob in my book and she'd be my least favorite quint...........but I've seen one worse quint than her that I truly disliked.

5. Itsuki Nakano → I know I know what you guys are going to say. Why do I dislike Itsuki so much? The answer is simple. She just felt like a watered down, worse version of Nino to me. Itsuki is......a mix of a lot of "Deres" combined? She's sometimes a shy Dandere but other times she is seen as a Tsundere. She just felt like she was........there.........existing. You could probably cut Itsuki out of the animé and no one would notice, to be completely honest with you. She was that irrelevant. In addition, what ticked me off the most about her was that in episode one (The Quintessential Quintuplets), Itsuki went in to have dinner with Futaro and saw his difficult financial situation, his family debt, and how poor he is, and what does Itsuki do? Oh right, she still refuses to cooperate and let Futaro tutor her, despite knowing that he's in debt and needs the tutoring job and the high pay that the Quintuplets' dad is paying him. Itsuki was just not it for me.

→ Art and Animation:

I think the art, animation, and visuals were excellent and well-done. I had no issues with the art. Everything was vibrant, colorful, and not overly boring or generic. The scenes changed accordingly as well based on the time of day, be it daytime for studying or nighttime when the quintuplets were tired and going to bed. All the characters were also excellently animated and had actual life to them so that is always a plus as well.

→ Sound and Music:

The voice actors and the music were a delight to listen to. At first I didn't like the opening theme, but then it quickly grew on me to the point where I had to add it to my playlist. The ending is also top tier and on top of that, there's also great music while you're watching, especially during the parts where you're hit with the funny slapstick comedy that the quintuplets do.

→ Conclusion:

Overall though, I rate The Quintessential Quintuplets a 6 out of 10 because this animé wasn't overly amazing for it to get a ten but it wasn't trash either. It was a bit above average and the reason I can't give it a ten is because I feel like the plot didn't go anywhere for the first 11 episodes. Literally, the formula was the same, with Futaro trying to tutor the girls to prepare for a test, the girls finding some weird way to distract him and waste his tutoring time or find some excuse to bail out of studying, test comes, quintuplets all fail, Futaro tries to tutor them again next episode, rinse and repeat. That was literally the formula for the entirety of the season. It wasn't until the season was practically over until we see Nino and the other girls confessing that they actually care about Futaro and want him around. This was too little too late when I was already bored due to the plot going around in circles for over half the season. This animé wasn't bad and the comedy was funny but I've definitely watched better. I'd probably watch season two just for Nino because she literally carried the animé for me. Without Nino, I would have dropped this animé at around episode four when I noticed the plot was repeating itself and not going anywhere.
