Konosuba is silly anime that takes place in rpg styled fantasy world where our main protagonist Kazuma and her partners: (Useless goddess) Aqua the goddess of axis cult, (peoples favorite maschoist) Darkness and (explosion casting loli) Megumin+her familiar chomusuke adventures to kill the Demon king, in their adventure they meet many foes, friends and stumble to many ridiculous situations as the adventure goes.

People have usually continue watching (myself included) because this isn't your everyday fantasy anime where the main characters are usually ... good/badass NO kazuma and his friends are just your everyday characters that can't do anything right but succeeds in the end that makes this anime enjoyable to many people who like goofy stories and characters.


So if you like these kind of animes be sure to give this a shot it can or can't be enjoyable to you, everyone has it's own taste in the end.

I will be honest here. I did not like this one. After seeing the synopsis and the ratings I thought it would be a good one but no, konosuba utterly disappointed me.

The story was good to begin with but I think the series kind of lost it's focus in the middle. There was very little reference with respect to the devil king, the main reason for Kazuma's presence in the world to begin with. The story mainly focused on characters burning away their money and various perversions. Okay, maybe that was the point of the anime and maybe it was not supposed to be a ... battle sort of thing, but on the humor front also the anime disappoints. There is very less moments which send you laughing.

The animation was good. There wasn't any fault with that. The battle sequences (though rare and short) were well orchestrated, especially the one in the last episode.

One thing that the anime lacks miserably apart from all it's shortcomings is the background score. It is meant to complement the humorous parts also but it was absent from those sequences. Again perhaps only the battle scenes were the ones pretty well executed.

Characters were mostly 1 dimensional with little or no development. Apart from the four main ones, there were no other extras to provide some respite. I could just watch the anime because it was okey dokey.

At this point I have absolutely no hope from the second season (whose synopsis declares pretty much the same thing as that of the first). I just think I will get over with it as soon as possible and then move onto something better.

Watch this one if you have run out of good animes to watch and have lot of time to kill. Also it has mild hentai so yeah, you can give it a try.

I liked the animation. Maybe this wasn't intentional but when people used magic, some parts were CGI which felt a little like it's another world.

I didn't like Megumin and Darkness as characters. Megumin liked explosions and darkness was a pervert, and that was it.

Didn't like how the last battle consisted of "a monster is coming. We killed it. It's going to explode. We disarmed it. Now it's really hot. We're going to explode it" (after reading this again it felt very badly written. I meant that I didn't like how there's a problem and they fix it 3 times in a row. It doesn't really feel that threatening.

Hopefully, season 2 is better than this

Take Fairy Tail, mix in a little Re:Zero, and that's pretty much what Konosuba is. It uses the Quest-of-the-Day format and fan service of Fairy Tail, and the fantasy world that the main character likens to RPGs in fourth wall breaks from Re:Zero. While the characters are interesting, and the dialogue is funny, Konosuba falls pretty flat. SPOILER FREE:

Story: 5/10. Kazuma says, at the end of the last episode, "that was like one long tutorial," and he described it perfectly. 10 episodes, and in the course of them, it felt like no progress had been made in the plot. The goal is to hunt the ... Demon King, but it never feels like they ever get past the first steps.
Pacing is also all over the place. The first half of the episodes follow a loose overall plot that steadily introduces each of the main characters, but the last four episodes all just feel like filler. They're self-contained snippets that are entertaining, but never building towards anything. Too many jokes about how the show is like a video game. Sometimes, there was witty dialogue, but it was littered with over-the-top innuendos and lewd shots. If you want fan service, one scene straight up borders on hentai. Also, many of the spells that each character uses just suddenly appears in their repertoire. Imagine if Naruto just started using the Rasengan, or Goku could drop a Spirit Bomb on a whim in every episode. It never feels like the characters earned something, it just fell in their lap.

Art: 9/10. The scenery is pretty. Characters are well animated. Spells look neat.

Sound: 9/10. OP was very hype. ED was ok, but it was slow so I didn't stick around for it that often. Music during the scenes, esp the fight scenes, is usually on point.

Character: 6/10. The main character, Kazuma, leaves a lot to be desired. He's snarky, rude to the women around him, and constantly complaining about the situation he put himself in. In sum, he's a flat, unrelatable version of Natsuki Subaru of Re:Zero, to the point where I would call him "Subaru" in my head. Two of the girls are great, Aqua and Megunim, as each has funny quirks. Darkness, unfortunately, basically only talks about how she was to be degraded by men to get off. It's funny at times, uncomfortable as it reaches the line. Luckily, all the other characters comment on how weird her behavior is. The supporting cast, however, is great. They're likeable, dropping funny one-liners, etc.
The main characters are at least interesting in that they are all balanced regarding abilities. The healer has basically no combat prowess, the tank can't do damage to enemies, the mage is a one-time nuker, and Kazuma is just an amateur at everything. They mesh well in combat scenes.

Enjoyment: 5/10. While I thought it was funny, I ultimately felt like I wasted my time. I was at ep8 and thought about quitting, but since there were only two left I pushed through. I found it so forgettable that I had to go back and look at what the main character's name was, even though I had literally just watched all 10 eps.

Overall: 6/10. There are reasons to like this show. The sexual humor is pretty funny, even if low-brow, but it gets worse as the show goes on. Worse, and worn out. I think if you really love fantasy, or really love Fairy Tail, then you're going to like Konosuba. If you want something simple to follow, watch this. If you like complexity, or rather depth of any level, save yourself the time. I don't think I'm even going to watch Season 2.

At least, it was really funny.

You need to have seen other generic isekais before because this is a parody of the genre. Here, there are no messages, no great speeches, no ideas, nothing of this sort. Instead, you'll find fanservice, lewd humour and immature gags.

For S1 and S2 and the OVAs:

Konosuba is very light-hearted and with nearly no stakes at all because of the literal deus ex machina. It's an anime where no one dies. Moreover, the evil guys aren't really evil, and when they suddenly become so, it's not as impactful. Meanwhile, all the good guys have a tremendous explosion resistance. The protagonists are ... not "useless" or "weak", contrary to what they will say : they are just very unmotivated and their powers somewhat flawed.

The team is your average RPG squad, except everyone is crazy in their own way :
Aqua, being the dumbest character ever, impedes the progress of everyone by crying and complaining, and causes nearly all their problems because of her dumbness, while being totally the most OP when she is motivated;
Darkness, a knight refurbished as a tank, and the most developed character by far, except it's only the fanservice;
Megumin (best girl), is a mage but with one spell slot, and the only really motivated character;
Kazuma is a jack-of-all-trades generic protagonist, and is there just for fun and jiggles, and there are enough jiggles to outgainax Gainax themselves.

There is nearly no character development : Megumin and Darkness are developed ONLY at the beginning of the second season, while Aqua gets some at the end (yes everyone else including Kazuma get NO development). They all stay like the gimmick they were defined as in their first appearance, except Aqua who gets more serious for no reason at mid-S2. It would become (it becomes) really unnerving if there is no development, but fortunately new characters appear.. which are far more bland and useless.

The worldbuilding, even for an anime that short, is below the ground. It functions like a videogame world for many matters and purposes, but it isn't : The magic system is mana-based and contained in a skill system : Only Aqua and Kasuma acquire skills during the 2 seasons. Everyone is either practically invincible or can be revived. For the rest, it's standard medieval-fantasy with nearly only humans (and liches that behave like humans).

The scenario progresses somewhat steadily, alternating quests probably found in Monster Hunter and your average fantasy boss, but in less cool. There is no cool factor in this anime, because it has all been subverted, for "humour", except the humour is the same jokes for 20 episodes (+2 OVA). Darkness is funnier than everyone else (at once) because she is masochist, and it works only because she is practically invincible.

The art and the OST is average, with cool themes, great CGI for bosses and for Megumin only, great animation : the animators were as lazy and Aqua and many things that should have been animated aren't (after all they spent all their time animating boobs...). The cities are great generic landscapes, but the wilderness and the dungeons are subpar.

If you want to watch this, turn your brain off, have watched generic fantasy animes beforehand, because this is the only way you'll get to enjoy this. It's not deep at all and it's as hollow as Aqua's skull. (and forget the first OVA except if you want more fanservice)

Booooring

I tried 4 episodes, couldn't go further than that.

As many others have pointed out, the main problem in this anime is the comedy which is its main focus, but.... it isn't funny.

Watching konosuba felt like a big waste of my time, i'm giving this a 5 by only rating it as a comedy anime, because everything else is absolutely bad, the characters and the dialogues are very dull.
Many times animes with dull characters and dialogues can be enjoyable because you can find something interesting in the story, not inn this one, the only focus is the comedy.

In 4 episodes i couldn't smile once, let alone ... laugh, the best scenes only gave me a "mind smile", i think the problem is that this kind of comedy feels childish, dull but it gives you a happy feeling, but it's not enough, if there were no other anime, games, tv series, or an infinite number of things to do that are enjoyable Konosuba would stand a chance, a 5 is not enough nowadays to not feel like wasting time, just for that little "warm feeling" that can make you feel slightly cozy.

After watching the whole series, I can say that I am completely disappointed in this show. Now before I expand on this let me just say that I LOVE these kinds of animes. I was so excited for this show from the beginning so i'm not really biased. If you like the whole MMO/Fantasy type anime such as NGNL or SAO then you'll like this at least to an extent.
Now the reason why I give this a 6 is because the plot is SO lacking. The entire show is fillers with an underlying plot that is never ... truly fulfilled. You basically go through this whole show thinking that maybe something interesting will happen or maybe certain characters that are introduced for an episode will be presented more in depth but none of this ever happens. I don't want to give anything away, but it's like they just thought of a plot, never really did anything with it, made 10 filler episodes around it, and then gave it a lackluster ending with a lame boss fight.
The animation is colorful and pretty to look at, but the characters are just ok. They barely took the time to get into any character in the show. There's no character development, like at all. The main protagonist is the same as every other average teenage boy in anime. The other characters have the potential to be interesting but you never really learn anything about them or their pasts, or they just show up for one episode and then disappear. The whole thing is just constantly pointless.
This anime really had potential, and I was hoping that it at least would have a satisfying ending to make the whole thing worthwhile- but it didn't. If you need something to waste time then i'd say the show is fairly interesting, but don't get your hopes up because you will be severely disappointed as I am.

One thing that really needs to be said about this anime is that lewdness is its co-host. It’s not pornographic, but a lot of its jokes use sexual and crude concepts. It has breast physics, things like panty stealing, and a main character named Darkness who fantasizes about sexual things being done to her constantly. If I read this paragraph before watching it, I would’ve easily steered clear since pervy humor isn’t funny to me. If it doesn’t sound right to you, maybe you should skip out on it. After all, with all of that stuff in the anime, it’s tough on my pride to ... say I watched it…and kinda enjoyed its other aspects.

Don’t get me wrong, most of the lewd stuff is why my score for this takes such a big hit. All of it made me glad I was watching it without any witnesses, to put it one way. And there are some jokes that take it too far into an area of intense discomfort. Darkness’s masochism and fantasies are probably the biggest problem I have with KonoSuba because they’re worded so bluntly and make up 90% of her dialogue.

However, I liked KonoSuba’s actual premise enough to wade through some of the more unsavory NSFW aspects that surround it. Basically, it subverts the whole isekai genre by having our main characters not embark on a grand adventure in this fantasy world and instead just try to survive being impoverished in it. Furthermore, everyone in the party has their bad, pathetic traits highlighted all the time, something reminiscent of how everyone is a terrible person in It’s Always Sunny. Despite this, and the male protagonist Kazuma lamenting their absurdity (while being just as weird as they are), the rag-tag group manage to work off each other’s limited strengths to overcome their challenges. The fact that they’re so discordant make their victories more satisfying.

At its heart, KonoSuba is a comedy. Obviously a good portion of the jokes it makes are NSFW, with a good chunk making me wish they decided not to go there. However, some were actually so absurd or, bizarrely, fitting that I actually liked them. Pretty much the rest of the comedy is the team clashing with each other, with their faces of disapproval being a highlight for me. While it does have some fights, most of the anime and even the fights themselves are focused on how the characters have trouble mixing to overcome their problems, which I think is done well.

If the pervy aspects of this anime that I highlighted here haven’t turned you off from it already, I think you’ll definitely get a feel for how the anime is only a few episodes it. It more or less continues like that into the second season, so you’ll definitely get more if you do like it and know what you’re missing if you don’t. It should be noted that the second season ends on a not-ending and left me wanting…but with no third season coming and this series originally being a light novel, it’s probably gonna be left feeling uncompleted to me. Regardless, despite it feeling not right to say, I’d say I overall liked KonoSuba.

Alright, to kick it off, I feel like my 6 might be equivalent to most people's 7-8s, but I'm going by MAL's definition of 6: the show was fine.

Are you ready for a world of adventure, intrigue, a meaningful journey, and more!?!? Well, this is not the show for you. To put it bluntly, KonoSuba is funny and dumb. Not a bad dumb, but like, it's a good piece of mindless entertainment.

The story is more or less nonexistent; there is somewhat of an overarching plot, but it didn't really play into the story at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the main ... characters never leave starter town in season 2.

Most of the characters are very 1 dimensional. They are defined by their one trait, be it shooting explosions, masochism, or alternating between completely useless to very helpful. Fortunately, since there are only 10 episodes, the jokes don't get old despite being repetitive.

Overall, don't expect greatness, do expect a good laugh here and there, it's a great recovery show if you just finished a horribly depressing anime and want something to lighten up with.

Had to give this series a go considering how many people recommended it to me and because it was pretty big in 2016. Well, it didn't quite hit the spot for me.

The first episode was funny because it subverted expectations. It started out strong and promising but became more and more boring as it progressed. Most of the segments and jokes weren't funny, or maybe my intelligence is low and I don't get the humor. I laughed maybe 4-5 times during the whole show and I guess it's better than nothing. The rest was just forced comedy and same old jokes over and over ... again. But it's definitely more funny than Nichijou and that's something.

Animation is really good in some segments, especially during Megumin's explosions. The OP is also very well animated. Backgrounds look beautiful and the character designs are solid. Megumin's design is definitely the best. But they used CGI for Destroyer (and maybe some other things which I can't remember) and CGI is always a no-no in my book.

Soundtrack is not bad but nothing particular caught my ear and there was no melody which got stuck in my head. The OP and ED were generic and uninteresting.

Story is non-existent and there's no character development but considering the nature of this anime that's not a huge disadvantage. I understand that it parodies RPG and MMO elements but they could've come up with a better story while doing so. This anime just doesn't go anywhere.

Konosuba had potential and, in my opinion, needed a lot more work. This is not a terrible anime per se. It has some good bits but loses it's fire pretty quickly. They should've just called it "Goofing Off In This Wonderful World".

Another entry in the "trapped in a videogame" premise with a much more literal and sarcastic take on the trend. Without much plot or world-building, Konosuba lacks a cohesive structure and relies heavily on comedy to stay interesting. A little too much fanservice and not enough writing, each episode can become a slog of obvious and drawn-out jokes that somehow always end up with a female character humiliating herself.

The first two episodes are strong, with lots of unexpected twists and a story build-up that promises a wacky comedy-adventure featuring a cast of quirky, unique characters going on quests and exploring this fantasy world while searching ... for a way to defeat the evil Demon King. Unfortunately, all plot gets side-barred in the name of endless wish-fulfillment fanservice and obvious jokes that try to convince you they're self-aware and deconstructive by being transparently self-indulgent.

Kazuma checks off all the boxes of a self-insert main character: apathetic, plain, otaku, social recluse, smarter than average, inexplicably never romantically interested in anyone, and completely essential to the survival of a bunch of powerful girls. He accumulates the usual harem, each with her own quirk that usually manifests as a fetish and who views Kazuma as her leader for no particular reason. They are all walking the edge between living-stereotype and actual-person, with 90% of their behavior conforming to a single gimmick and small slices of personality and motivation.

The characters show flashes of personality and life, when they aren't constantly reinforcing their identities as "girl who always does that one stupid thing", and the clashing personalities occasionally make for some great humor. KonoSuba tries to stay self-aware and subvert all the cliches of the shonen-harem-videogame-anime, but it lacks the self-respect to not dump minutes worth of pointless fanservice into every episode while playing the exact same jokes over and over again. It feels just like every other trashy harem anime, instead of the parody of one that it's supposed to be. Rather than being a story about strong characters growing together as a group, developing themselves and exploring their world in true JRPG style, all the while bouncing personalities off each other's and poking fun at videogame tropes, most of the screen time is devoted to showing off insecure girls embarrassing themselves in front of Kazuma and inevitably begging him for help.

There's a distinct lack of detail that destroys all credibility of the premise. Concepts are constantly brought up and never expanded on, power-levels and abilities are completely arbitrary and inconsistent, random factions and countries are brought in and out of existence for plot-convenience, no one has a backstory, and nothing external to the plot of each episode ever happens. Every quest is stand-alone and insignificant, and the characters never change at all or improve their relationships in the slightest. None of the characters seem to even speak to anyone but Kazuma after they are introduced, unless they are talking about Kazuma, and they don't have any sense of familiarity with one another at all.

There are a dozen better comedy ecchi shows that have everything KonoSuba has, plus realistic relationships and some level of progression throughout the series, and - frankly - better fanservice. There are some good jokes and cute moments sprinkled throughout, but they aren't worth the 10-episode slog of the same harem garbage from every bad anime over and over again. Good voice acting though

Konosuba is exactly what that feels like; it was fun while it lasted but now you're going to die.

After getting a rather talented crew to work on an anime producing gorgeous visuals and incredible sound, but not spending any money on the story, what do you have now? Now you have a shit anime, high fucking wages to pay and a deadly addiction of addiction of anti-depressants and anime tits because you just produced this dumb fucking anime.

Halfway through the anime, I had to ask someone exactly WHY they ... thought this was a good show to watch; they told me it was because of the dark humor. Shut up, asshole, because nearly every single god damn anime has at least a grain of dark humor.

Sure enough, the art and sound is absolutely astonishing; get Nintendo to do a fucking collab with this anime and we can finally get HD RUMBLE anime titties! Yes it was good.

The story was terrible; lacking depth, you can't be expected to take the story seriously at all, why? Well there's anime boobs and also maybe some jokes... yeah...


Did I enjoy this anime? Well, I sure as hell enjoyed being under the influence of a shitty anime, driving me into insanity and doctor shopping for anti-depressants.. no.

KonoSuba or *insert full name here* is one of the few light novel adaptations that doesn't immediately make me lose interest. The first impressions was good and made me go "Hey, I want more of this kind of comedy." That was pure gold.

Judging by its looks, KonoSuba is one of THOSE fantasy, trapped in a game/world/whatever action anime, which is one of the growing trends these days. However, KonoSuba isn't an show where people are to take it seriously. That itself was evident, after watching its first episode. Following the protagonist, Kazuma who is resurrected and sent to the fantasy world, he's given one task: ... to defeat the so-called "Devil King". But there's just barely any progression in its plot. All of the episodes just have him and his party completing quests; majority are trivial and a few "compulsary" ones.

So, where's all the fun?

KonoSuba's saving grace is its comedy. Unfortunately, its strength is also its own Achilles' heel. Why? it delivers only about HALF of the time. Let's start off by mentioning a few okay ones: Kazuma's stealing ability. Megumin's single use per day spell. Darkness's masochistic personality. All these are funny, yes, but it quickly gets dull when recycled over and over. Even the best jokes only made me crack a smile. Alas, when the humor fails, well, I just cringe. Living cabbages that attack people!!...HAHAHA...nope. Just stop.

The characters are merely just comedic versions of existing stereotypes, so they aren't special. First off, there's Kazuma. Despite being a shut-in and Otaku he's the most rational, in comparison to his other three members who conveniently, are all females. At least, he isn't a complete beta male. Nonetheless, he's still generic.

The other three members are: Megumin the mage, "Darkness" the crusader, and lastly Aqua, a Goddess whose attitude is identical to that of a spoiled child. Her role in the show is be a constant irritation. Obviously, her whining is supposedly meant for entertainment purposes, for me its nothing but infuriating. Megumin is like-able, but my interests for her just disappeared about halfway in the series. Supporting characters such as Wiz(a gorgeous big-breasted waifu) and Chris had some potential but having only meager amount of screen time, I didn't particularly care that much about them. Wiz is definitely hot, don't get me wrong. But like I said, she needed more screen time for me to actually start caring for her. All in all, most of the characters were simply boring.

KonoSuba's animation by current standards, barely holds up. The backgrounds are great, but animation of characters are so-so. Not the best, not the worst either.

Not much to criticise about the sound aspect; decent voiceacting, okay soundtracks/OP/ED. Although, Aqua's voice would make my ears bleed.

Ultimately, both of KonoSuba's major strengths and weaknesses lie within its own comedy and humor. There's also lack of story progression, so it just ends up as a slice of life/comedy anime. KonoSuba is passable, at best. Not sure if I should recommend this or not, but perhaps to fans of comedy anime with slice of life elements. Despite that, I cannot guarantee they will have an enjoyable experience. Some people can fully appreciate this anime, while others will loathe it.

Recommendation: If you're a fan of the isekai genre, you can give it a shot to see if you're on its vibe. Otherwise you can probably skip it. This is a combined review of seasons 1 and 2, since there's no meaningful differentiation between them, in terms of quality or style, as far as I'm concerned.

KonoSuba is an extremely hit or miss show. It can be funny at times, and also boring or cringeworthy at others. Its biggest strength and its biggest weakness is its characters. They're all completely out there, with no straight man to keep the comedy from ... spinning out of control. At its best, you get something like the manic energy of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, where a bunch of selfish idiots are constantly getting owned by their half-baked plans blowing up in their faces. Other times, it ends up being more like the Netflix seasons of Arrested Development, where the main character (Kazuma in the case of KonoSuba, Michael Bluth in the case of Arrested Development) is too pathetic himself to credibly play straight man, so the comedy falls flat with no "normal" person to play off of.

Some of the characters were fun. I particularly liked the explosion-obsessed Megumin and the lich queen Wiz who ruins her own business with constant impulse purchases. One character I absolutely did not care for was Darkness, a one note gimmick character who has no personality beyond forcing her fetish into every possible conversation and situation. She added little to the party and was often extremely cringeworthy.

Overall I was generally disappointed with the comedy. There were quite a few jokes but none of them were laugh out loud funny or especially memorable. The jokes had a pretty low hit rate in general, although there were certainly some funny parts too with the volume of jokes it throws at you. Unfortunately, the show overuses certain jokes too often, especially ones about Darkness being a masochist, and it wears thin after a while. It can be a slog at times when it hits dry patches with the humor, because the main cast is often intentionally unlikable, so if you aren't laughing and you aren't rooting for anyone, it all feels a bit pointless to keep watching.

I should also throw in that, while this didn't bother me or affect how I rated the show by a huge amount, this show really does not look very good. The character models and animation often look wonky and cheap. Sometimes they look more like rough sketches than actual character models. I was pretty surprised at how poor this series looked, given its reputation and popularity.

I gotta start this review by saying I love memes. There's a lot that can be done with absurdist referential humor that strikes me as incredibly clever or inspired. When I say something has memes, or is a meme, know that it's not an insult, it comes from a place of appreciation.

Konosuba is a show with incredible meme potential, which is how I was first introduced to it. A lot about the show's set up is really clever and subversive, to the extent that it would be silly to try to list everything. It starts off blowing back expectations when the protagonist dies a ... pathetic death and is made fun of by a goddess, and everything spirals out from there.

This is probably the aspect of the show I would praise the most. There are also a good number of clever moment-to-moment jokes that had me chuckling. However, the show didn't really have much for me beyond that. My favorite comedy series, stuff like D-Frag! and Cromartie High School, have similarly clever set-ups, a lot of hilarious situations, but also more wordplay and understated humor, arguably more developed characters, and most importantly are more consistently surprising. Konosuba's characters all have an obvious "thing" to them, a core element to their personality, and I didn't really see much past that. Despite the narrative subversions, this lent a certain element of predictability to how some of the comedy played out that definitely diminished the appeal for me. There are certainly charming and funny moments, but there were also some that I found somewhat dull, and as the show went on I was surprised less and less often.

A lot of this is subjective, of course; comedy is perhaps more than most other genres. But I didn't like Konosuba as much as I was hoping to, based on the premise; it was reasonably enjoyable but in my view rarely inspired beyond the initial set up. 6/10.

Kono Suba's interesting premise and compelling world-building is hampered by its undeveloped characters and lack of plot direction.

I found Kazuma to be a likeable and complex protagonist. He was neither too weak nor too competent, and neither too much of pushover nor too much of a jerk. His attitude and actions when confronted with other characters were congruent with how the viewer would in the same situation. I found myself cheering for Kazuma to accomplish his goals throughout the episodes. The writers really nailed the "NEET shut in" characterization.

Unfortunately, I do not have the same praise for the other characters that I do for Kazuma. ... The only other character I liked in the show was Megumin. My only quells with her was her lack of development outside her love for explosive magic and the writers often sexuallizing such a young girl. Despite her craze over her magic, she was one of the more likeable characters in the show. She rarely antagonized or sexually harassed Kazuma (me needing to point this out is sad) and was more down to earth than most everyone else. One could understand why Kazuma wouldn't mind having a person like Megumin be in his party and as a friend. While she didn't have a lot of dialogue to show it off, I thought she had the best chemistry with Kazuma.

I did not care for Darkness what so ever. Her only personality trait outside of being a masochist and pervert was her ideal of honor which is normal for a crusader. However, whenever she speaks, she is either talking about how much she loves getting hurt or how hot it was that she was being shamed. I found Darkness to be a very bizarre character who's only purpose was to be a sex figure. While I didn't hate her, but I don't understand why someone like herself should be assigned to anything other than a reoccurring character role.

And finally there is Aqua who has almost no redeeming qualities. She is sassy, antagonizing, whiny, and cruel. The only reason someone would want her in their party is for her magical abilities. She is not a person anyone in real life would want to hang out or be friends with. When she's not insulting Kazuma, she's complaining to Kazuma, and when she's not complaining to Kazuma, she's crying to Kazuma. Aqua is a bratty child in an adult's body. And its not even in a funny way or cute way, she is just a straight up annoyance to the point where I feel no sympathy her. I fail grasp why she is so popular with so many fans. Maybe it sexual attraction, but I don't know.

Speaking of sexauliztation, this show is full of it. If you want softcore Hentai, then this your show. The plot and character interactions were plagued with gags about nudity, stripping, and panty stealing. It was like the writers felt they had to distract the viewers from the bring characters and meandering plot lines with titty and ass shots. Anyone without a coomer brain can see that behind their large breasts and slutty outfits, most of the female characters are just bland and uninteresting.

The overall plot is cliche but fun. The only problem is it progresses at a glacial rate and constantly meanders. This is even worse when a couple of the episodes in this short season are filler side quests. These episodes felt like they really didn't have a point other than comedy and lewdness. As for the main story, the mid season fight was very enjoyable, but the finale was underwhelming.

The music was good but nothing amazing (The theme song was fun). The art direction was great and some of the magic spell looks beautiful. Also, the setting did a great job capturing the feel of quiet rural town. This is especially noticeable in the outro when it shows the townsfolk going about their day. iT makes the town feel more dynamic and alive, likes it a character within itself.

Overall, the first season wasn't good but wasn't bad either. I will check out the OVA's and the second season but I feel no rush to do so.

I never really watched much of Comedy shows and this one is I guess supposed to be one, but for me it isn't much and on top of it too much ecchi stuff that feels like this anime is made for coomers and I don't like coomer anime tbh, some that I watched might be something of it but I still doubt, everything else that I watched currently has a decent story and characters. I was nothing but annoyed by these characters, all useless and boring. I felt like hitting something whenever I watched an episode how these characters annoy me. Soundtrack wanted to make ... you feel like it's WOW YOU SHOULD BE MOTIVATED NOW, but nah not even close. Tbh not my kind of anime. From the list of what I have watched nothing is as bad as this.

I really don't see the appeal of this. It is clearly not the anime for me.

The story ultimately doesn't matter. It is one of those anime that an author can retcon, add, subtract and do whatever to the story and ultimately it wont matter because there isn't any ground breaking or even a mediocre story to tell.

Art is below par. I don't like how the character look flat. Everything is drawn on the main and background characters look and feel like paper. Thin outlines everywhere doesn't help elevate the paper-looking and flatness problem either. Animation is good from what I can remember.

I don't like the ... characters either. They are bunch of gimmicks and shticks on repeat. Do I want to watch 30 plus episodes of basically the same mishaps and shticks? I don't think so.

Enjoyment, well at this point I can't say I enjoyed anything of it. The humor is immature and not clever, the story is non-existent and the world is not unique or interesting. It is average at best.

Alright, so is this anime good? Yes. Is it worth a watch? Maybe, if you're looking for a quick, light-hearted pass time. Is this all it's hyped up to be? Weeeeellll... no.

I'm not familiar with this kind of fantasy-parallel-universe genre since I don't really know many "good" anime that stems from it, so when people say this is supposed to be a parody of that genre, I have to admit, I really have no clue how accurate that statement is. So I guess some of the humor is lost on me, then. Lucky me.

As a comedy, this didn't really work for me. Not sure ... if it was just my sense of humor, but a lot of it felt like it was flat and bland. Not saying that it was terrible, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, just the kind you typically find in anime. It seemed to fare much better with its longer punch lines and some of its running gags, though after some time, some of those got old quick. I will give the series some credit, since as it went along, it became much funnier and more entertaining, mostly because Darkness became more masochistic (okay, so I might have found that a little funny) and Kazuma became more and more done with everyone's shit. Kazuma cracked me up and probably was what made the show actually decent; he is my spirit animal, god bless his soul.

As for the actual plot... well, not much actually happens, but I don't think anyone was really expecting it to since it's a comedy. Which is kind of a bummer, because I really wanted to see them actually go on genuine adventures and defeat the Devil King and stuff. It gets a little boring when they're just doing the same things over and over again. Because - news flash - humor works just as well (if not better) if you actually spice things up a little. New settings are okay to use every once in a while - it won't detract from the fact that this is a parody (?) if you do it.

The art was pretty, but nothing special, especially for something made so recently. The character designs were pretty bland, especially for something supposedly set in a fantasy world, famous for its elaborate and creative character designs. Nope. None of that here.

The sound was probably one of the high points of the anime. While the opening sounded like something out of Love Live (aka bland and overdone) and the ending was too quiet for my taste (though it was pretty peaceful, which I'll give it credit for), the voice actors and their line delivery was what made me laugh sometimes rather than the actual jokes. Kazuma's tone when talking to the girls and Aqua's screams and wailing were absolutely perfectly done and quite hilarious, and the way the music swiftly switched on and off when something anticlimactic happened was entertaining, so kudos to the creators for that.

The characters were (ugh, I'm going to get a lot of hate for this) overall really bland and boring. Actually, Kazuma was the most interesting, because he was the most relatable: "Why am I here? What am I doing? This isn't the kind of fantasy world I imagined; I hate it." Darkness was probably the only girl I actually really liked, mostly because I kind of found her masochism amusing and her personality a little unique. Aqua was quite annoying, to say the least, and though I thought Megumin was cute, she was nothing special, as I've seen multiple characters just like her in the past. For a parody anime, it doesn't do too good of a job parodying tropes, now, does it?

I enjoyed this anime... I guess. I mean, I watched the entire season, and I'm planning to watch the next (and the next, when that comes out) so I guess I found it entertaining? Strangely enough, it stands out a little among others of its like, so I guess that might be it. I think the best way to describe it is it's one of those stupid cat videos on Youtube that wastes your time and are absolutely ridiculous, and yet you just can't stop watching them. But in all honesty, this review was probably a little harsh purely because of the high expectations that everyone set for this anime (and my terrible sense of humor), so I guess it didn't really reflect my true feelings.

Overall, this anime isn't terrible, but it's not as mind-blowing as everyone says it is. It's good and it's cute, and if you want a few laughs or just something a little silly and slightly entertaining to watch, then give this a go. If you're expecting something like Gintama or Nichijou, then you should probably go find something else to watch instead, since this is nowhere near that level of comedy.

Let's keep it simple.

The game genre is all over the place over the last few years, it keeps attracting views, no matter how bad is the concept since it's pretty simple: we are stuck in a videogame. So it was obvious that KonoSuba would be as popular as it was.

Was it good? In short, yes. But it has it flaws

Story:

Don't expect a rich story in KonoSuba.
You are trapped -> Gain money -> Level Up -> Defeat the demon King
... And you are... kinda stuck in steps 2 and 3 in KonoSuba
The pacing is ok, being a 10 episode show, except for a few elements in the last episodes where we miss some characters and some events. God knows why the studio took such decision, but to be honest I wasn't attracted to the story at all. What really dragged me in was...

Characters:

I was surprised that Kazuma wasn't a OP character such as Kirito, or a master strategist like Shigure from Log Horizon. He is the reason why this show keeps shining and makes you simpatize with him in every episode. He is funny, perceptive, and the one with the most amazing skill in the game: common sense. He is the mastermind behind the show making his comments and rants the main reason why KonoSuba is what it is.

Now the rest of the party are ok. Megumin (yes, that's her name) is a unique character in the mage department, being able of only doing one spell per day thus making her the target of some of the funniest moments in the series. Darkness (*sight*... she's not even black) is a masochist and she doesn't land a single hit, being useless as a tank... kinda. I was tired of her since what she says doest's strike you as funny after hearing it a couple of times.

And Aqua... she's the reason I almost drop the show. At the beginning her arrogance makes her funny but after that she becomes a total b**h. Only caring about money, insulting Kazuma in a derrogative way and of course boastering about being a goddess with the power of, you guessed it, water. But she hurts more than she helps and just keeps getting on my nerves instead of making me laugh. Easily the worst part of the series.

Art:

Being a fanservice show, KonoSuba has a fanservice style. Starting with Aqua's perfect butt to the breasts of the guild manager and all the jiggly physics you would expect in a show like this. The animations of the skills are really good like Megumin's spell and the battles look the part. So KonoSuba doesn't flaw in the art deparment.

Sound:

Huh? This show had a soundtrack? Nothing memorable... besides I kept skipping the ending since doesn't match the show AT ALL

Final Veredict:

Being shorter than most anime KonoSuba is good anime to watch if you want a quick relief of heavy series like Monogatari. The jokes are funny, the rants are hilariuous and Megumin is adorable. It's light story, fanservice and comedic approach to the game genre will please all viewers but, in my opinion, will leave them with the desire for more... but hey, a second season was green lighted as soon as the anime finished. Just hoping that Aque becomes less annoying by then
