Classic, sweet, old-school anime of the slice of life genre. Very similar animation, character design, and style. Both have an European setting, and in both the protagonist is a little girl, orphaned, but very talkative and cheerful, who lives with and older person (either a relative or just a tutor) and who loves nature. These series have overall the same characteristics and feeling. Also: in both the director is Isao Takahata; the storyboard of both was made by Yoshiyuki Tomino; Hayao Miyazaki worked in both anime.

Both have realistic and realy sad story. Same drawing style. Classics from the 70´s. And they were both made by the same Director (Isao Takahata).

Both anime are inspired by novels (respectively Anne of Green Gables & Little Women) and both fall under the slice of life and drama genres. In both the main character is a rather tomboyish and imaginative girl. They also have the same character design and storyboard-maker.

Art Both have absolutely beautiful animation. Both were made in the 70s so that both have the same pretty hand drawn animation style of the 70s/80s/90s. Though “Akage no Anne”’s animation is more focused on it’s realistic background, while “Ie Naki Ko” animation is focused on its moving parts and different angles. Story Although the path the protagonists take are very different both stories focus are coming of age/bildungsroman stories about orphans. Both main characters also have similar personalities; they are very kindhearted, have big imaginations, are very talented, and likable. However their talents differ with “Akage No Anne”’s protagonist talented in her studies/acting while “Ie Naki  read more

Both Anne and Pollyanna are outspoken girls who live in the late 1800's. They also both move to a new home with a stubborn woman as a new parent-figure which gradually grows to love the talkative girls. It's very likely you'll enjoy the other if you liked one of these two slower paced character driven stories.

The next installment to the World Masterpiece Theatre Series. Konnichiwa Anne, or Before Green Gables, is the prequel to the 1979 classic by Isao Takahata. If you liked Anne, then you'd probably like to find out about her past.

Both are realistic stories made in 70´s and tell about orphan girl child who gets adopted. They have much difficulties in life and everything with adoption doesn't go as they dreamed. Anne and Candy both are tomboyish and have unique personality. Slice of life stories.

Mostly just wanted to draw attention to Akage no Anne, in hopes that more people will get to watch it. Similar in some superficial ways, emphasizing emotional honesty. Great casts.

Both of them are adopted into another family and Anne and Emily's behavior are similar. Story has too many resemblances such as aunt Elizebeth's and Merilla's concern toward Emily and Anne, respectively. Even Matthew and Emily's uncle's behavior are similar.
