Thanks! I'm doing well, actually I'd even say I'm doing much better than 5 years ago.

I'm really happy you liked the movie, after all it's one of my favorites. And it means I managed to successfully recommend something to somebody, which is also a plus^^

I really hope you're also ok

The weeblitist skype chat is even worse, man. Everything there is defined by LotGH circle jerking and "good taste."

Anyway, I haven't talked to you in a while. How're things going ?

Nana isn't great. Like, at all. After episode 30 it meandered into ridiculous territory of soap opera melodrama starring the female pulp fiction classic trope No 1. It doesn't end properly, it develops bigger 'tell don't show syndrome' the longer it gets, still I somehow stopped to understand relationships between main casts. All of the drama start to happen only because a) characters act plain retarded or b) plot demands it. And most of the main cast ceases to be likable. And since it hits two main heroines the most...

And for people of inclination to be socially sensitive it was fucking rage inducing. I think I don't recommend it. All the more I read synopsis of what happens later in the manga and it gets ridiculous squared.

I was thinking about reading Punpun for a while, but I'm postponing it, since I really don't like reading manga on-line. I'll check out Touch, but maybe I'll watch an anime instead? However even if Cross Game was great I'm still skeptical about baseball. And love triangle? well, I have usually big problems with love triangles.

If you are from USA it would be no wonder you haven't heard about this, it's Central European niche cinema.

Nana is great! Like for now it is gripping. Mind you, it's nothing ground-breaking, it's a simple SoL about relationships which strives to be as emotionally authentic as possible. IMO in the 25 episodes I watched it totally succeeds.

oh, and I have another film recommendation for you - when you finish The Brothers Karamazov and like it I believe you could check out the Czech movie Karamazovi. It's absolutely wonderful.

Omoide Emanon has such a beautiful art. How is your manga quest going on?

Why would slight focus on religion bother me?

I checked out your favorites and, well, I think I want to recommend you a movie I love. It's The Seventh Seal. It is slightly focused on religion (among other things), it has interesting visual style and way of framing things, it is ambitious, it's art and it's unexpectedly modern for a 60 years old movie. I think you might like it.

No, no, no, I was totally enjoying RWBY, much more that I'm willing to admit. There is something very appealing about it, not sure however what exactly.

Also, what kind of films are you into?

well, that's a broad question. I don't have a definite favorite genres or anything. I used to like Sci Fi, but nowadays I am quite tired of it. And I'm not very into American blockbusters and Hollywood in general, barring exceptions I think I like European (and older Japanese) cinema more. Seeing your anticipated section I can e.g. say that The Decalouge is a very uneven series, but totally worth watching anyway. I'm not able to decipher most of your 'anticipated' however. But I can tell you that there is an anime adaptation of "No Longer Human" (in the 4 first episodes of Aoi Bungaku). I wasn't completely sold on it tbh, but here it goes.

Well, it's really hard to answer on your question succinctly and to the point. You personally seem to be more of an artsy person so I believe you are into art-house cinema? Is there anything obscure you can recommend?

And thanks for VN recomendation, I'll try it out.

May I ask why you (as it seems) like RWBY so much?

I've just watched it, and I mean, visually it's very appealing (though some things may be questionable), characters have undeniable charm, fight scenes are great and overall wow factor is very, very high. But the story and dialogue, generally writing, is, I'm sorry, kinda meh at times, at least comparing to your other favorites. And idk, maybe it's just me, but some voice actors sound stiff. Have I missed something?

Btw. how is your manga quest going? Anything worthy of note?
awerture Apr 2, 2016 5:54 PM
actually, why have you stopped watching it?
awerture Apr 2, 2016 5:25 PM
well, I'm afraid that if two first episodes didn't immediately suck you in, you probably won't find it that great.

As for me, while watching it I was simply overwhelmed by amazement for most of the time. But it still might be my so revered a favorite only temporarily - while story of the first season is (weeeeellll, sort of) self-contained it still IMO very heavily hinges on what will happen in the next one. I'll wait and see, for now - I love it.

I wasn't planning on using calls or video calls, I just prefer Skype messaging over this much slower service (comments).

This MAL Admin thing has to be the most elaborated "prank" of the decade (as far as inoffensive ones go). Like how did they come up with this?
