Space opera + comedy = these 2 series. I know that Nadesico has its own brand of zaniness and humor but it is almost the same with Tylor since both heroes (Tylor and Akito) are clueless when it comes to feelings although Tylor excels in being an idiot or savior anytime. The crew of both flagships (Soyokaze and Nadesico) have their own share of oddballs who chew on hapless officers anytime. So if you liked space operas with a dash of romance and a generous helping of offbeat humor and drama, these 2 series are for you. ^__^

Both are 26 episodes-long mecha series with plenty of comedy and action. But above all, the characters in Nadesico and their relationships are eerily similar to the ones in FMP. In both we have a pretty dense mecha pilot guy (Sousuke/Akito) who's competed between a friend (Kaname/Megumi) and his captain (Tessa/Yurika). Sousuke and Yurika are even physically very similar to Akito and Kaname. In both anime we also find the tsundere, the meganekko, the ladies man, the cook, etc.

Both are parodies of the mecha genre. The mentor/pupil relationship between Akito and Gai parallels that of Simon and Kamina. Also, did I mention that they're both space operas?

Very similar in tone, with mecha anime meta-humor mixed with character and political drama.

Nadesico can be considered a parody of Evangelion. Both are 26 episodes-long mecha series with young pilots who fight against something that invades the planet (Angels in Evangelion, Jovian Lizards in Nadesico). Some Nadesico characters are clearly inspired by the Evangelion ones (Shinji=Akito, Rei=Ruri, etc). Even the opening themes are quite similar.

Both protagonists have faced tragedy. On Mars, Akito faced the death of his parents as a kid, and later as a teenager, he sees a young girl die in front of him when the colony he stays in is destroyed, he suffers from a form of PTSD due to this, he doesn't like to fight despite being good at it, he only wants to be a cook. Flit's own colony was destroyed when he was very young. Unlike Akito, he isn't afraid to fight as doing something mobile-suit related, be it engineering or piloting is the family business. Akito has Gai Daigoji as an enthusiastic older-brother figure.  read more

Macross forms the template that Nadesico uses. The love triangle, the singing idol, the macho friend of the main character, and the influence of culture on the alien enemies. The big difference is that the overall theme of Macross and Nadesico are different.

In Martian Successor Nadesico, there is a war between Earth and colonists who escaped to Jupiter. The mecha design is similar, the main mecha in ALDNOAH.ZERO could pass it self off as an orange custom Aestivalis. Both series involve ancient martian civilizations that had transportation technology; Hyper Gates in ALDNOAH.ZERO and Boson Jumping in Martian Successor Nadesico.

Both are lighthearted post-NGE mecha anime that act as reconstructions of the genre. The main character of each show joins an organization through circumstances that result in them pursuing a career prior to the one that they want to (Ayato Kamina of RahXephon wants to be a painter; Akito Tenwaka of Nadesico wants to be a cook), and both are mecha pilots who have a woman (Haruka in RahXephon, Yurika in Nadesico) who obviously has feelings for them (although Yurika is MUCH more open about her feelings for Akito than Haruka is with her feelings for Ayato). There are a few differences, however - RahXephon  read more

Nadesico is often viewed as a 'response' to Evangelion, but it can also be linked to other Gainax productions as well, especially Gunbuster and even Otaku no Video (Gainax productions have a lot of common threads). In the case of Gunbuster and Nadesico, both are most similar in their tonality, which can lurch back and forth between zany comedy to stark moments of pathos and loss. In addition, both build upon well worn tropes in the sci-fi/mecha genre and update them with self-awareness. Each protagonist, Akito and Noriko, are anime fans who find themselves embroiled in the 'real-life' versions of their fantasies to do battle  read more

Both have a certain plot twist in common. Both contain mechs. Both become very dark as the plot continues, though Nadesico is more of a comedy and stays light hearted a lot longer than Bokurano.

Both are extremely over-the-top parody anime with the humor cranked up to 11. However, Excel Saga parodies a wide range of anime genres (with each episode being a parody of something), whereas Nadesico sticks to parodying mecha anime.

Both shows tell a story of young people trying to figure out why they fight in battle, with a deep underlying theme exploring the desire to stay young and innocent. On top of that, the characters learn the tenuous nature of adolescent relationships, and must find their purpose in life, for the sake of themselves and those they fight with (and against). Both series use the plot device of a mobile "ship" as a home base that confines the characters and forces them to be around one another constantly. They also use mecha/aircraft during battle to make the conflict less "personal" -- in that they  read more

Both are parodies that poke fun at their respective genres and fans through exaggerating character and plot tropes, and have an oddball cast of idiots.

in source novel for welcome to the nhk, the protagonist's otaku friend yamazaki at one point acquires a life-sized bishoujo doll which he intends to literally worship. the bishoujo doll just so happens to be one of martian successor nadesico's ruri, a character who would have been very popular at the time the nhk novel was written. it's actually a little surprising how similar the two anime are, given their far different genre labels. but anyone who appreciates parody of anime or otaku culture would be likely to enjoy both of these very funny series'.

Both are mecha series that have an overall lighthearted and comedic tone, but still contain darker, more serious, and sad plot threads and moments throughout the story. Both also feature mysterious enemies of alien origin, and otaku MCs (in Nadesico Akito is a mecha otaku, whereas in MJP Izuru is more of a toku otaku and aspiring mangaka)

Both are mecha parody series that lovingly poke fun at the genre tropes and fans. Nadesico is more focused on parodying real robot anime while Dai-Guard is more focused on parodying super robots.

Both stories are about the humankind and other alien faction, which are simmilar and yet so diffirent, altho Southern Cross focuses more on the military side, Nadesico is more about the personal needs and struggles of the characters, and also it has way more comedy in it.

Both are 90s anime that blend self-aware humor and exaggerated characterizations with serious and dramatic plot points. While one is a fantasy adventure and the other a parody of military mecha, the humor of both series is fairly similar, and would appeal to viewers even if they aren't necessarily fans of the differing genres

Both shows are parodies of the mecha genre in their own unique ways - Nadesico is a parody by making humorous homages to old school mecha anime and what was current at the time it came out (specifically, it parodied a fair amount of NGE), whereas Date a Live parodies the premises of most mecha anime by replacing the invading force with cute girls, and having the hero date them to save the world. Both shows have some haremish elements (in Nadesico, there are 3-5 women who want the main character; in Date a Live, it's a straight up harem), both shows have a fair amount  read more

Nadesico makes several very direct references to Gatchaman - most notably in the beloved anime of the crew, Gekiganger. There is lots of wonderful symmetry between these two shows. It you enjoy one, it is likely you will enjoy the other.

both begin with new warship , a man who has ability but dislike battle but fight for the sake of his nakama and many others common things but this show come with more jokes and parody.

One ship against alien army in space with mecha battles. The main lead being a guy with harem and a girl with obsession over the "harem" guy who doesn't seem to care...atleast not at the beginning ;).

If you like the idea of being one man with countless beautiful woman fighting over you, then you will enjoy these series. If it intrigues you even more to have to fight a war in outer space while fighting off advances from the girls, you'll love these series.

Both are space opera with mecha and singing, lovable characters and romance.

Comparing GaoGaiGar and Nadesico will offer two vastly different views on the Super Robot Genre of old. Whereas GGG is Super Robot show, Nadesico, through the use of the Super-Robot show-in-a-show, Gekiganger, takes the Super Robot genre and puts it in a completely different light, despite being a Real Robot show itself.

Much closer than FMP! is it's spin-off. It's a little more comedy oriented, still not as family-watchable, but this matches up with Nadesico on the screwball antics, just with a little less mecha.
