Synopsis

Just an ordinary teenager, Kobeni Yonomori receives quite the surprise on her 16th birthday—a fiancé and a sister-in-law she never even knew she had. As a result of an arrangement that her late grandfather made, Hakuya Mitsumine and his younger sister Mashiro have moved from their countryside home to the Yonomori household in order to deepen their relationship with their new family members.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei follows Kobeni's "love life" with Hakuya as she tries her best to adjust to the abrupt changes forced upon her. However, as some extraordinary secrets regarding the siblings come to light, Kobeni will find her life changed forever.

Background

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei originally premiered on Japan's ABC station, and also aired on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X. The series was simulcast on Crunchyroll and several other websites outside of Japan. Sales for a six-volume DVD set of the series began March-August 2014.

Although the anime follows the manga closely, the final episode is original to the anime.

tbh, i immediately looked up this anime after seeing a clip of a little kid dancing in front of the TV with different anime OSTs lmfao.

(++) the comedy is super chill, with no heavy drama like family conflicts or slice-of-life struggles. there's none of that here. everything is laid-back and calm.

- no forced or cringe comedy, everything just flows with the story. it's so relaxing that i didn't even realize when i got to the final episode.

- romance? it's decent, but it only focuses on one couple. plus, there's only one male character in the story anyway.

(++) there aren’t many characters, but each one is ...

Mixed Feelings
I finally got around to watching Engaged to the Unidentified, which had been sitting in my watchlist for a while. I went in with decent expectations, given its tags of comedy, romance, school, and supernatural, but sadly, it fell short for me. While the characters were nicely designed and had potential, the weak storyline made me lose interest at times. I found myself skipping through scenes and, honestly, just trying to finish it without getting too invested in the main plot.

For an anime labeled as "romance" and "supernatural," it doesn’t quite fit those genres. If anything, it felt more like a slice-of-life comedy about school ...

I had started this anime with great expectations, taking into account the good rating on the page (although I have learned not to trust this) and expecting an interesting and funny romantic comedy, I did not ask for any masterpiece.

instead, I find that romance and our protagonists take a back seat to the story.

Meanwhile, Benio, the sister who bullies younger girls, begins to have a really unnecessary prominence with his "jokes" towards little mashiro. From wanting to lick jam from her cheek, bathing with her, "getting excited" by smelling her underwear, buying her clothes to dress her to her liking, etc.

I hope that with this ...
