Mairimashita! Iruma-kun 2nd Season

After many trials and tribulations, Iruma Suzuki is finally happily living among demons despite having to hide his true identity as a human. Even more so, he has now found his ambition in life: keep ranking up in this world!

However, that plan is halted when Iruma's club is temporarily dismissed, and he is forced to be part of the student council, known for its strictness toward rowdy students. Its cold-hearted president is Amelie Azazel, Iruma's friend. Although Iruma is not used to following their rigid schedule and many rules, he still wants to prove himself and help Amelie alongside all of the other members of the council.

But trouble arises when Amelie's personality completely changes due to strange circumstances, putting the student council's reputation in jeopardy. Will Iruma be able to save them and avoid having the whole school turn into pure chaos?

For those who are wondering out of the gate about the cliffhanger from the previous season: We do not directly find out what caused the change to Iruma at the end of the first season for the first 4 episodes. Afterwards, we are left to deal with this new Iruma for a half-dozen episodes or so, and afterwards we follow various interesting side plots, primarily based on the premise of the highschool summer vacation, dubbed "end of terminus".

This "summer break" arc comprises the majority of the season to tail it out, which feels a bit disappointing but also appropriate given the upbeat nature of the ... show thus far. This season was slightly weaker than the first, but it is clear the series is headed in a good direction from here, and the show maintains its solid humor throughout this part. For the most part, we follow the same cast of characters, with only a few minor additions such as the fictional (earth) history teacher and the attention-hungry playboy. These characters provide the necessary mix up required to keep the story interesting.

I don't think it's really easy to suggest that people drop the show after already having watched the first season. However I do understand that the cliffhanger being ignored for a few episodes might annoy some, but it more so just builds up a bit of context so the cliffhanger doesn't feel like it's literally out of nowhere.

If you already watched the first season, this isn't really that different, and all of the good qualities of the original season are still present here. I plan to watch the third season as well, since the show has demonstrated tremendous consistency.

Can an anime series without fan service and an edgy and overpowered MC score a perfect 10? YES. Look no further, this is the one.

The jokes are actually funny without being sleazy, the characters are very likeable, and the plot wholesome without being boring. It gives us what we want and in just the right amount. And yes, thank you, and I mean it, for giving us an MC who is not OP or sleazy or edgy for once. Thank you.

I'm just so sick of shounen anime targeting horny teenagers for viewership. I mean, fan service is great and all, but if ecchi ... is the only thing a series could offer then I might as well just watch some hentai.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (14/21 eps)

In some episodes, there are moments that feel incredibly cringe-worthy and frustrating, which could have easily been avoided if the show had been shorter, perhaps around 12 episodes instead of its current length. A lot of the time, the plot feels like it’s dragging with too much focus on pointless or nonsensical events, and the story could have been far more engaging with a tighter, more concise narrative. Clara, in particular, becomes unbearable after a while—her character grates on the viewer, and I found myself skipping many of her scenes, which is a shame because there is potential for more compelling character development.

Rather than dedicating ... so much time to irrelevant moments or focusing on Clara’s irritating behavior, the show could have explored the stories of other characters like Kuromu and Amelie, who have much more interesting backgrounds and personalities. Their stories feel underdeveloped and could have added depth to the overall plot. In the end, if the series had been shortened and focused on more relevant character arcs, it would have been far more enjoyable.
