'Gundam' Franchise Receives Hollywood Film Adaptation

The Sunrise panel at Anime Expo announced on Thursday that the Gundam franchise will be adapted into a Hollywood live-action film and it will be a collaboration between Sunrise and Legendary Pictures. The movie will premiere this fall.

The Gundam franchise first started as an original anime by Sunrise in 1979 that aired for 43 episodes. Since then, various sequels and adaptations, including manga and novelizations, by different authors spawned. The most recent entries in the Gundam franchise include Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, an alternative version to the 1979 series; Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans which also had a manga adaptation by Kazuma Isobe publishing concurrently; and the now-airing Gundam Build Divers. Kidou Senshi Gundam Narrative is a movie that is due this year and is part of a new project set after Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. The franchise will have its 40th anniversary in 2019.

H M M M M M M. This could be ok actually. Odds are it'll turn out like something along the lines of Pacific Rim though.
