Yea it's set to release on the 22nd. Weird.

As for hakouki and arcana, they're both mainly dvd titles as seen from last weeks rankings.

Now that you mention it, you're right. Fits perfectly with last week's #'s.

That explains a lot lol. In that case, Hyouka still remains consistent for this volume. Great news!

AKB just barely above 4k... I miss the days of Vol 1, such a shame the show isn't appreciated more but it's still a pretty decent result I think. Can't wait for Next Stage.

Campione 3,756 - nice, I enjoyed the series. Maybe it will get next season if LN sales got boosted enough?

Horizon II, 21k average, I'm waiting.

Kuroko is amazing - 4,698 second week

Strange numbers for vol 5... oh, it's Hyouka. It started dropping after all. Hopefully further volumes won't be much lower than fifth one.

Last week I said AKB0048 and Campione should rank and indeed they are almost the only new titles in the BD list (though Sengoku Collection shows up in the DVD list). Good to see Nogizaka Haruka OVA ranked too.

AKB0048 in fact jumps a bit in sales and so far is pretty consistent for the sales figure. Bodes well for the second season (although graduation of Kuumin, the SKE48 members who voiced Sonata, could present some challenges for the 2nd season)

SAO is touching the IS line, but on its 2nd week, still has not quite broke the line:

Infinite Stratos 38,885 by 2nd week

Sword Art Online 37,643 by 2nd week

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

AKB0048 Next Stage was already confirmed in last episode of first series.

I'm curious how much will SAO drop with Vol. 2

Of course. What I meant was this consistent sales bodes well for the sales of 2nd season BD as it seems there is a stable fan base out there. Guess I should have written it clearer.

Not only did it add 1k, it added 1,925 total and that's its best second week sales yet! It's totally erased the drop from the average we saw in wk1.

[Edit: Oh, just noticed dtshyk's post about Hyouka, so I guess something was missing when you posted.]

Progeusz said:
Strange numbers for vol 5... oh, it's Hyouka. It started dropping after all. Hopefully further volumes won't be much lower than fifth one.

You're comparing third week and monthly adjustment data to second week data. Here's the totals so far based on just weeks 1 and 2, for an even comparison:

Vol. 1: 8,896
Vol. 2: 9,178
Vol. 3: 9,450
Vol. 4: 9,881
Vol. 5: 9,520

In other words, the Hyouka drop doesn't exist yet in any mathematically meaningful sense. This is a better second week total than Vols 1, 2, or 3. When Vol. 5 is doing better at an equivalent point than the first three volumes, man, that's fantastic. With a monthly adjustment (depends when the reporting period is) Vol. 5 could hit 10k,or at least 9.8-9.9k.

[Edit: In the interests of full disclosure, I should say only Vols. 4-5 have gotten second weeks on DVD. If you compare BD-only weeks 1-2 it's still really good though, and Vol. 5 still tops Vol. 1-2:

Vol. 1: 7,780
Vol. 2: 8,082
Vol. 3: 8,338
Vol. 4: 8,441
Vol. 5: 8,170]

Also, Strike Witches on its way to 40k, good. Hoped the first week would be there already but I'll take this.

KuroBas did have a significantly small second week than the previous volume, but better than some early volumes, and the first week was so huge that it's still already the best selling volume.

Vol. 2 did get a SAO/AW joint event ticket app announced, which might bump it up and leave any stopping for Vol. 3. The event ticket effect will be split with AW, but SAO sells more so it'll get the bigger share.

Hope Vol. 2 gets a decent second week though. Season 1 Vol. 2 Week 2 was only 614 so it's not surprising it's below a 763 threshold, but it'd be very nice if the full data later in the week reveals a 600-700 week 2. That would put it right on par with Season 1 again.

They're not anime as we would define it there. The list is all "animation", i.e. it includes things like Disney movies and the like. Only Japanese anime gets reported here.

The sales did not back up what you said above though.

Although Vol.1 sold substantially more than vol.2 (3762 vs 2123), it could be because of event ticket included in vol.1

@symbv, sorry then, I misunderstood your post.

@jmal, I thought that second number on wiki was second week. I should learn at least basics of Japanese. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah, vols 1-3 probably got 300-400 DVDs in second week as well, such a shame Oricon lists aren't longer.

but we didn't get BD data last week becasue of high thresholds. Maybe it would have added more in that. At least 1000 copies more. Same for Hakuouki.

Yeah, vols 1-3 probably got 300-400 DVDs in second week as well, such a shame Oricon lists aren't longer.

The DVDBD Wiki format varies a little from show to show, which can be confusing. You're right that the second column is often the second week sales. Hyouka's (and many recent titles') format is a little different. Usually it goes:
巻数 = Volume Number
初動 = First week
2週計 = Second week (cumulative)
※合計 = Lifetime total (cumulative)l, if > week 2

But recently it seems like they no longer do 2週計 and instead stick 累計 (cumulative total) in the second column with the BD(DVD) format, and then put the combined sum of that after ※合計.

Not sure if this is the new normal for the wiki or not. I've mostly been engrossed in older listings (as I fill out my sales spreadsheet, working backwards, on 2005 now) where 初動/2週計 was more common.

Yeah, Arcana has gone:
2,528 - Vol. 1 DVD (wk2)
1,234 - Vol. 1 BD (wk1)

2,123 - Vol. 2 DVD (wk2)
*,*** - Vol. 2 BD

If BD dropped by the same percentage as DVD, then it should have sold roughly 1,036.

Speaking of the event ticket app, I swore I had read it was included in Vol. 2, which seemed strange. I can't imagine Vol. 2 would have seen a modest drop if that were the case though.

Also interesting: Stalker was off -194% on Vol. 1 DVD, but overestimated +6.5% for Vol. 2 DVD. Only Vol. 1 was massively massively storefront-biased.

- Pretty decent, better than Hyouka OP at least, if not the kind of massive OP/ED sales KyoAni shows used to get.

I still dont understand why japanese like arcana familia.
The sales did not back up what you said above though.
Although Vol.1 sold substantially more than vol.2 (3762 vs 2123), it could be because of event ticket included in vol.1

but we didn't get BD data last week becasue of high thresholds. Maybe it would have added more in that. At least 1000 copies more. Same for Hakuouki.
The threshold of top 50 BD last week was 1322. I am not sure if it will definitely sell 1000 copies of BD more... but given the DVD figure is not much lower than vol.1 DVD in its first week, perhaps the BD sales of vol.2 will not fall much below vol.1's 1234.

And I have to correct myself: Vol.2 indeed has event ticket included. So the real test may be after this vol.2 ...

In short, I think even with the vol.1 sales figure it is hard to argue that this shows Arcana Famiia is "liked by the Japanese" as the sales is hardly anything to boast about. That said, it is true that it sold more than many people expected. However since I have not paid much attention about the show, I do not have any theory why this should be the case.

I get why Vol. 1 sold more than expected (massively underrepresented at Stalker/Amazon), what I don't get is why Vol. 2 didn't sell more since it's got the ticket app. Very odd. Maybe Vol. 1 came with another very desirable (even more than the event application) extra at specialty B&M retailers like Animate and whatnot.

Hmmm... Kokoro Connect didn't sell as poorly as I had expected, given all that crap they did to that seiyuu. But it would be one of the top BDs this season if that never happened... Such a shame.

Also, Seven Arcs, do not even dare to announce a season 3 of Dog Days before the season 3 of Sekirei. I wish I remembered how Sekirei's season 2 sold in terms of Blurays.

It never had a chance of being one of the top sellers of the season. Without the controversy, maybe it was on track to sell 4k BDs, on a good day. I'd bet more like 3.5k.

I wish I remembered how Sekirei's season 2 sold in terms of Blurays.

Average sales:
2,192 - DVD
3,663 - BD
5,855 - Total

Decent, but less than Dog Days' is going to sell.

Oh, thanks for the info. I love Dog Days, but I prefer Sekirei. They did hint a season 3 at the end of season 2, so I guess it's a matter of time. After season 2 of Sekirei, they already released 2 seasons of Dog Days, and that seems kinda unfair for some fans. But I guess they should sell what sells the most.

Now I see what I got wrong: I thought vol.1 has event ticket but in fact only vol.2 has event ticket but not vol.1 In this case, perhaps the very small drop of sales of vol.2 (assuming the BD indeed sold >1000 copies) was in fact due to the event ticket and would have been worse if the ticket was not included?

To be honest, I looked at the source video and I still could not say it was definitely a case of mass bullying instead of a terribly misconceived and misfired PR campaign that had the seiyuu's prior knowledge (although how happy he was about taking the job when his agency told him about it is another question).

It still dropped like 16% on DVD, which is pretty significant for a Vol. 2 that's supposed to have an advantage over Vol. 1 (the ticket). Something about Vol. 1 still made it more desirable than Vol. 2 (especially given the storefront vs Amazon divergence between volumes), beyond just being Vol. 1.

Depends on the production committee. Seven Arcs probably has more at stake (and thus potentially more to gain) with Dog Days' because it's anime-original, while a bigger driver for Sekirei is going to be the manga publisher's view of whether funding a third season would result in further improved manga sales or not. Plus Dog Days' has wildly successful Mizuki Nana OP singles (and more modestly successful Horie Yui ED singles) to go along with it.

I still hope Seven Arcs will make more Nanoha. But Sekirei would be better for me personally than Dog Days.

And to bad we won't see Horizon S3. At least sometime soon.

Because it'll take along time to create, you mean? I think I remember hearing something about the first one being multiple years in the making.

At the very least we know the sales and source material are there. So it's just a waiting game.

Thankfully, Horizon is doing great but... Seeing SAO is doing better is just frustrating. Way too frustrating.

The only ones frustrated are the people that don't buy nor make the show in question. In other words, people that don't matter at all.
