Yea it's set to release on the 22nd. Weird.

As for hakouki and arcana, they're both mainly dvd titles as seen from last weeks rankings.

Now that you mention it, you're right. Fits perfectly with last week's #'s.

That explains a lot lol. In that case, Hyouka still remains consistent for this volume. Great news!

AKB just barely above 4k... I miss the days of Vol 1, such a shame the show isn't appreciated more but it's still a pretty decent result I think. Can't wait for Next Stage.

Campione 3,756 - nice, I enjoyed the series. Maybe it will get next season if LN sales got boosted enough?

Horizon II, 21k average, I'm waiting.

Kuroko is amazing - 4,698 second week

Strange numbers for vol 5... oh, it's Hyouka. It started dropping after all. Hopefully further volumes won't be much lower than fifth one.

Last week I said AKB0048 and Campione should rank and indeed they are almost the only new titles in the BD list (though Sengoku Collection shows up in the DVD list). Good to see Nogizaka Haruka OVA ranked too.

AKB0048 in fact jumps a bit in sales and so far is pretty consistent for the sales figure. Bodes well for the second season (although graduation of Kuumin, the SKE48 members who voiced Sonata, could present some challenges for the 2nd season)

SAO is touching the IS line, but on its 2nd week, still has not quite broke the line:

Infinite Stratos 38,885 by 2nd week

Sword Art Online 37,643 by 2nd week

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

AKB0048 Next Stage was already confirmed in last episode of first series.

I'm curious how much will SAO drop with Vol. 2

Of course. What I meant was this consistent sales bodes well for the sales of 2nd season BD as it seems there is a stable fan base out there. Guess I should have written it clearer.

The sales did not back up what you said above though.

Although Vol.1 sold substantially more than vol.2 (3762 vs 2123), it could be because of event ticket included in vol.1

@symbv, sorry then, I misunderstood your post.

@jmal, I thought that second number on wiki was second week. I should learn at least basics of Japanese. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah, vols 1-3 probably got 300-400 DVDs in second week as well, such a shame Oricon lists aren't longer.

but we didn't get BD data last week becasue of high thresholds. Maybe it would have added more in that. At least 1000 copies more. Same for Hakuouki.

The threshold of top 50 BD last week was 1322. I am not sure if it will definitely sell 1000 copies of BD more... but given the DVD figure is not much lower than vol.1 DVD in its first week, perhaps the BD sales of vol.2 will not fall much below vol.1's 1234.

And I have to correct myself: Vol.2 indeed has event ticket included. So the real test may be after this vol.2 ...

In short, I think even with the vol.1 sales figure it is hard to argue that this shows Arcana Famiia is "liked by the Japanese" as the sales is hardly anything to boast about. That said, it is true that it sold more than many people expected. However since I have not paid much attention about the show, I do not have any theory why this should be the case.

Hmmm... Kokoro Connect didn't sell as poorly as I had expected, given all that crap they did to that seiyuu. But it would be one of the top BDs this season if that never happened... Such a shame.

Also, Seven Arcs, do not even dare to announce a season 3 of Dog Days before the season 3 of Sekirei. I wish I remembered how Sekirei's season 2 sold in terms of Blurays.

It never had a chance of being one of the top sellers of the season. Without the controversy, maybe it was on track to sell 4k BDs, on a good day. I'd bet more like 3.5k.

I wish I remembered how Sekirei's season 2 sold in terms of Blurays.

Average sales:
2,192 - DVD
3,663 - BD
5,855 - Total

Decent, but less than Dog Days' is going to sell.

Oh, thanks for the info. I love Dog Days, but I prefer Sekirei. They did hint a season 3 at the end of season 2, so I guess it's a matter of time. After season 2 of Sekirei, they already released 2 seasons of Dog Days, and that seems kinda unfair for some fans. But I guess they should sell what sells the most.

I get why Vol. 1 sold more than expected (massively underrepresented at Stalker/Amazon), what I don't get is why Vol. 2 didn't sell more since it's got the ticket app. Very odd. Maybe Vol. 1 came with another very desirable (even more than the event application) extra at specialty B&M retailers like Animate and whatnot.
Now I see what I got wrong: I thought vol.1 has event ticket but in fact only vol.2 has event ticket but not vol.1 In this case, perhaps the very small drop of sales of vol.2 (assuming the BD indeed sold >1000 copies) was in fact due to the event ticket and would have been worse if the ticket was not included?

Limechan said:

To be honest, I looked at the source video and I still could not say it was definitely a case of mass bullying instead of a terribly misconceived and misfired PR campaign that had the seiyuu's prior knowledge (although how happy he was about taking the job when his agency told him about it is another question).

The only ones frustrated are the people that don't buy nor make the show in question. In other words, people that don't matter at all.

So the Newtype version of the monthly lists got posted (I almost missed it because all the titles use annoying nicknames). Full list of new additions at the link, but we also have some modifications to the Vol. 1 listing now. I've bolded the titles with updates.

Temporal Blu-ray + DVD Rankings for Summer 2012 (the first volumes)
*1, 37,643 Sword Art Online
*2, 22,254 Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon II
*3, 10,520 Dog Days'
*4, 10,461 Tari Tari
*5, *8,461 Yuru Yuri ♪♪
*6, *7,685 Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
(rest of the list is unchanged)

Knew Dog Days' would take #3 if it got even a tiny monthly bump.

Also, small update for Hyouka v4, taking it slightly higher so it's now 10,364 total.

No extra data for Yuru Yuri♪♪ v3 or Jintai v2 yet, this list runs through their first weeks only. Going to need to rely on the normal Oricon monthly for October, when that gets posted, to hopefully get week 2 and maybe 3 data for those.

Thankfully, Horizon is doing great but... Seeing SAO is doing better is just frustrating. Way too frustrating.

Look at it this way: Horizon at 20k+ is successful whether SAO sells 1k or 100k. We'll get a Horizon III either way. That's all that matters.

Still. Drrr had both sales and material but S2 is not here and not even in nearest plans of the studio. I'm afraid that Sunrise could just drop horizon because they have enough other successful and tired of it.

While anything is possible, it's still a different animation studio, different authors, different distributors, different target audience, etc. Horizon sold a bit more on average than Durarara!! too.

Most importantly, Horizon sales are also far more consistent (minmax: 20,231 → 25,075) than Durarara!! (minmax: 11,788 → 29,653), so there's less reason to fear Horizon will drop precipitously between seasons (indeed, we already see II hardly dropped at all) than what might happen with Durarara!!.

Horizon is also Sunrise's #2 best selling show of the past 4 years. Only Tiger & Bunny has a better average. You have to go back to 2008 (Geass R2, Gundam 00 S2) before you hit another better-selling title.

So I guess I feel pretty confident. Everything seems to be lining up perfectly. If Horizon II were dropping to like 12-15k instead of staying over 20k, I'd be more concerned about whether Sunrise and Bandai Visual had the appetite to continue the franchise.

I know it. And I would like to see as much Horizon seasons as it needed to cover all novels but I just feel sad that they ended on v2 p1 and didn't cover at least 2 first volumes with 3 seasons. And judging from staff interviews we'll have to wait at leas two years for S3

Aren't Momo e no Tegami's sales kinda low for a movie?
In any case, glad to see Totoro back in the building. Besides that I only really care for KuroBas this week, but seeing SAO and Strike Witches still up there is not surprising.

So, what's expected to rank next week, except K Vol 1&2, Tari Tari Vol 3 and Oda Nobuna Vol 3?
I'm curious to see how much/little K sells. Stalker estimates do not bode well.

e: Also anyone know where the sales thread in the anime discussion section disappeared to? it gave very helpful directions for stalker and other related sites.

Thresholds will be low enough that everything (late night anime + Naruto and Fairy Tail) should rank.

I'm almost certain K will beat Stalker estimates, but that's not saying much.

I meant what other volumes are getting released next week? I only found those 4 because they are in the top 100 at amazon. Is there any site to quickly look up and get an overview of what is getting released each week?

And I wouldn't be surprised if K stays under 2k, rather the opposite. And I still don't get why they would sell Vol 1 & 2 at the same time, and so early too. Maybe they don't have confidence in the second half of the show? ^^

Stalker's main page is what I use: http://www27392u.sakura.ne.jp/index2.cgi. Upcoming release posts also accompany the weekly data on mania. (When not forgotten...)

So just:
Oda Nobuna
Tari Tari
Moyashimon
K

...for late night anime.

Then there's a bunch of kids/gag series stuff I don't pay attention to (i.e. stuff nobody fansubs or streams), plus more Naruto and Fairy Tail.

Well Seven Arcs makes one Tv series along with one Movie every year so far they have not yet annouced what anime they will produce so there still a chance for either a third season of Sekirei or Dog Days to come out, Dog Days and Sekirei both have been succesfull for the studio but Dog Days has an advantage because its an orignal series while sekirei is based of a manga. When the second season finished airing they rushed the story to finish exactly the manga had finished so there was not enough material to cover for a new anime but now it has a chance for a 2013 release because the Third stage has finally been finished and each season covers each a stage of the plan and i really hope so because im a huge fan of it.
As For Dog Days It has also been a success for Seven Arcs And the Fact that its an original project with no need of a manga or LN to adapt it from it also has the potential to have a third season since they can make up as many stories as they please so even it has a huge chance for another season released in 2013. In My opinion (partially because im more of a sekirei fan) i think they might take a break from dog days since they dedicated 2 years straight to create dogs days already and focus on another Sekirei season as i said the manga has now advanced enough for another season.
Or they might focus on a new anime entirely or a new season of another Anime series that they have

Thanks very much jmal, that stalker link is especially helpful. Unfortunately I can't really navigate the site on my own, I wouldn't have found that page even if I knew it was there ^^.

So Toriko Vol 12 didn't even crack the threshold this week? That's a bit sad, but not really relevant for the TV series I guess.

So Moyashimon Vol 3 is also coming out next week. Is there some event ticket involved or can I assume that stalker estimates are too high? I doubt it would start stronger than the previous volumes with no incentive.
