I was rather expecting the dark and twisted stunts of Griffith but I didn't bet to the extent this episode have shown. He'd rather lose his pride and honor. Damn, what a character.

This was a much needed episode. Several things are explained. And I think we see here the pivotal moment where Griffith rejected a part of his humanity for the sake of his "dream". (until he met Guts)

I think Griffith sort of lost it after seeing the boy dead on the battlefield. He was overcome with guilt and shame. He realized that other people were dying for his dream while his hands were remaining relatively clean. His decision to sell himself came not only from a need to stop unnecessary deaths of his soldiers, but also from a need to punish himself. He needed to feel like he had suffered for his cause to some degree rather than skating through unscathed while others paid the price for his success.

Regardless, it was an interesting bit of character development for a character I hadn't really cared much about prior to this episode.

That kid that died totally made Griffith go nuts. Also, the scene where he was scratching himself made me cringe.

This is getting good! Especially the character development.
It was a big surprise to me that Griffith actually went there but for the sake of his soldiers. That was a bit too far in my opinion.

Well Griffith is a man who will do anything to get what he wants. What he wants though is still a mystery. Does he want to be the Hero or the Villain?

Will they talk about the Assassination soon? Its odd that the event has had no repercussions yet.

We see Cascas backstory. It comes as no surprise that she and her people were mistreated by nobles. Can this be true for all the members of the Band? They fight and risk their lives for the nobles and Griffith. If anything the war is to blame and I suppose they want to put a stop to it.

That's all. End of the story. About Casca, she's obsessive and hysterical most of the time as Guts said, that doesn't fit in the story.

They also seem to be have been brainwashed and can't remember anything from ep11.

Anyone in their right mind would've left this Griffith guy for good after listening to that lecture showing his potential danger, Guts also killed an innocent just before coming to that place, they pretended they didn't hear such a thing or they're really dense and can't come to a conclusion.

And still, Bill will live on.
He will befriend the next inhabitants of the earth, beings of light who revere him as a god.
And Bill will outlive them all... for millions and millions of years...exploring, learning, living,
until the earth is swallowed beneath his feet.
Until the sun is long since gone.
Until time loses all meaning and the moment comes that he knows only the positions of the stars
and sees them whether his eyes are closed or open.
Until he forgets his name and the place where he'd once come from.
He lives and he lives until all of the lights go out.

Yet another great episode, and extremely shocking as well.

I swear Griffith keeps shocking me.

Miura deserves credit for creating Griffith, he has been the best character up until now, just as good as Guts in my opinion.

Both Casca's and Griffith's development were amazing this episode.

Griffith is such an incredible character. There are two reasons why he was willing to sell his body. One, his main drive is to achieve his dream, even if to fund that dream he has to sell himself, he is willing. He is literally ready to do anything, including having sex with an older man just to get a step closer to his dream. Secondly, after realising other people were getting hurt, killed and as he puts it "not clean" to achieve his dream, he feels as though he cannot be be clean either. Griffith thinks he has to do more dirty work to compensate for other peoples sacrifices. Literally punishing himself because of this guilt and burden he realised was upon him after seeing that dead boy.

This show already has so much depth in its characters...

Lol, this episode was mainly about Casca's backstory, but everyone's talking about Griffith takin' it up the ass with an old dude (well, at least the comments from 10 years ago).

Anyways, Casca was sold off as a kid to a pervy noble, but got saved by Griffith. Well, he threw her a sword at least after which she promptly made her first kill. Talk about extreme hazing.

Griffith got a bit depressed after a kid died in his band. The shot of him kneeling in the field with the red sun behind him, was very stylish.

Casca found out Griffith sold his body to an old pervy king to earn money to maintain his army. Again looking for the most effective "logical" way. When he was digging his nails into his arms, I genuinely was cringing a bit IRL. That shit has to hurt.

That's all the flashback time for this episode. It ends with Casca throwing a fit (again) about how Griffith likes Guts, although this time it's a bit more bearable because she explained how she feels about things.

Can't wait to see what the next episode will bring.

It really irks me that Guts backstory of being raped is cut off in every version of animated forms. Since all 3 main characters have went thru sexual abuse and something all 3 of them unfortunately can somewhat relate to and a sad truth about those times.

Little surprise about Griffith, but we all knew he would do anything to succeed. Guts starting to show that he does care a little bit. I wonder what griffith saw in guts to say the things he did and not to anyone else

Well, it took 12 years before someone here noticed that Griffith didn't actually save Caska, but rather put her through an impromptu death game. It's an IRL child soldier recruitment tactic (making a kid kill, not the death game in particular).

Griffith is just terrible.

I love the animation style for this episode. Casca backstory is great and we know more about Griffith past. I always thought he used others for dirty works, but he dirtied his hands when it was necessary. Great character development and Guts is finally able to connect with Casca, even if she doesn't like him too much because her dream is to support Griffith.
Really great episode. I'm waiting for battles in the next episode!
