Saw a variation of this thread in the Anime Discussion board and got curious about those manga people love that are not well known or not that many people have read it.

So here it is! Mention any manga that you really like and believe not many people know about its existence. If possible, please include a brief explanation as to why you love it, or what makes it so awesome to you.

I'll start with Dragon Knight. It was actually my first manga. I enjoyed it because it has a good mix of comedy and seriousness in it, and the story completely intrigued me; it also gets complicated by the volume, especially when they start to piece together the stories that you might have thought in the beginning were not relevant to the overall plot. I also found the characters very interesting and a bit realistic in their way of thinking and actions. The series actually goes into each character's personal history in a way where you can understand their personalities and motives, and at the same time the main story moves on.

Cipher by Minako Narita was pretty good but doesn't seem to be well known. I liked it because it had great character development and good drama. It is about the life of twin actors called Siva and Cipher (Jake and Roy).As the series progresses the character's face obstacles and their dark past is revealed. I also liked it because of the overall message that the story sent. It really showed you that celebrities are just regular people.

The Wonderful Adventures of Toto
A very good comedy about a boy who sneaks into a blimp to start an adventure, encounters a dog who later fuses with one of his arms and eats metal to transform into different weapons and such. The characters and places are based on the "Wizard of Oz" story, which I found it a plus for this manga.

Zippy Ziggy: READ IT NAW!!! xD

Info:
Reputation is everything in a world of icons and popularity contests. So why not score some points here and there by being the nice guy? This is the way Shinghi Ghang legitimizes the fake personality he has everyone believing. Armed with his above average looks and a (completely false) angel-like personality, he has every girl in school head over heals, and all the guys looking to him for guidance. With the exception of having a screwed up cross-dressing devil for a dad, Shinghi’s life is absolute perfection (*cough* of lies) until one day, Sung-Hae transfers to his school.

While being a complete martial artist freak, she also likes to fib just a little in front of those who know her… you know, like acting like she’s just a scared little girl who’d play with kittens rather than break brick walls with her head~! After all, how can anything go wrong when you’re as cute as Sung-Hae?

Fate has brought these two masters of lies together and the two must battle it out to see who will be crowned the undefeated heavy-weight champion of fakeness!............................................................

Like half the things in my collection.

But let's see, there's Banana Fish (I've written a review on that one),
Club 9 (and those bastards at Dark Horse won't put the last two volumes out in manga form and I'm not likely to be able to track down all the Super Manga Blast the last two volumes are in) and
What's Michael by the same guy (Dark Horse just needs to put this one out in an omnibus if you ask me),
and Flower of Life which is shockingly unpopular for a Fumi Yoshinaga title

Well...I heard about and wanted to read Banana Fish for quite a while,I'm currently reading 6 volumes out of 19 ^^
I also want to read the authentic short story (that inspired the female mangaka of Banana Fish, Akimi Yoshida )"A Perfect Day for Bananafish" by the American author, Jerome David Salinger that coincidentally died not a long ago on 27th of January 2010 (aged 91) .And that's pretty sad. Rest in peace...

Every day in Japan, 2500 people die due to any number of causes. Do you think you'll be one of the ones to die? No, of course not. Do you think you'll win the lottery? You'd like to think so, we all would. But Sumida is different. He wants to remain the status quo in every way. Live a normal life, get a normal job, have normal kids, never to be anyone fortunate or unfortunate, content in normalcy. Anyone who doesn't agree is foolish, doomed to live their life scraping up a mountain that they can never conquer, fated to die in despair wishing things had been better.

I hope that it either gets licensed or somebody finishes scanlating it. I NEED to know what happens in the last two volumes.

Cristo - Jougan no Messiah

Unknown because I've never heard anyone mention it anywhere except for me.
It's a one volume long shounen manga that I randomly found one day and I thought the title and cover was cool so I tried it out.

Description copypasted from Mangaupdates

Towa became a sweeper admiring the legendary sweeper called, “Orange-Eyed Messiah”. The task of sweeper, which requires to “sweep” the monsters Adys is quite hazardous. On his first real attempt at fighting Adys, Towa encountered Kei, a former sweeper who saved him from being killed.
Towa asked Kei to take him as a student. However, not only Kei plainly rejects Towa’s request, he tells Towa that he saw the “Orange-eyed Messiah” die!? An appearance by a mysterious man who seems to be connected to Kei showed up with a grudge from the past. Who is he and what is his relationship with the “Orange-Eyed Messiah”? Will Towa finds out about Kei’s past too?

Saru lock is EPIC i love it :) i only have 17 volumes in french at the moment it s very funny (for boy ).

For me it would be Yureka and half prince both are manga of people playing mmorpg with real caracters .
Yureka is more serious and realistic the hero is smart kinda like lelouch and use his intelect to fight there is more than 30 volumes.
Half prince is more for the girls but it is still very funny for boys the heroine have a special status who make her change her gender in the game (nobody else can do it) and she meets people that she know in real life in the game.

Kimi to Himitsu no Hanazono

It's a shoujo manga about a tomboy martial artist who wants to be more girly, so she enrolls into an all girl's academy. She meets her roomate who she sees as the most feminine girl she's ever met, except she's actually a boy. Despite her many attempts to be more girly, it's actually having the opposite effect and causes others to see her as manly.

It's a really cute story and really funny!!

"Sarai" by Masahiro Shibata

They only released the first 8 volumes in English, and the series was dropped. I really enjoyed it, despite it having things that I don't normally read or watch ( ecchi, gore, ) but I found the story and characters very intriguing and a much different take on your typical battle maid genre.

I wrote a small review on it, but since I only read the first half, and there are no scanlations that I have been able to find, I had to drop it. But I don't know of many that have read it, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Heptagon.

It's about this 24 year old woman, living a pretty aimless and empty life in Japan. She has problems with her family and friends. A car crash happens, and she is somehow transported back in time to when she was in high school. Thing is, she retains the memories and knowledge of her 24-year old self!

Being back in high school allows her to recognize and make use of some of the opportunities she had missed out on or neglected. Most importantly, she is able to do something about that one boy she'd loved back when she was young.

It has a very happy ending, and really gives you this feel-good feeling cuz you get to see a failure of an adult rectify the mistakes she had made, and live a better life from that point on. Plus it's fun to see her ace the high school tests she used to bomb on in the past! Who doesn't love things like that? :D

Oh, cool thread to plunder for more to-reads.

I just finished one of these today: Sexy Voice and Robo, which contrary to its pornolicious name is a detective story about a girl who's training herself to be a spy and the hapless guy she enlists to help her. It's on hiatus, boo, but totally worth reading anyway since it's mostly episodic. Witty, and a nice change of pace from the normal wide-eyed manga heroines.

Kurosagi Corpse Delievery Service. It's a little dark (I mean, we're dealing with the dead, here), but all the characters are interesting and rounded-out. And the cases they do range from the horriffic to the bizzare to the hilarious (lolz to the alien!). But mostly because when dealing with such crazy stuff they all manage to stay upbeat and positive. They're real characters (haha I made a funny! :P) in every sense of the word.

Confidential Confessions
A manga that deals with a lot of the themes no-one else wants to go near, such as rape, drug addiction, facing death, sexism, suicide and a few other subjects most tag with 'AVOID!'.

Back when I discovered it, only the first volume was on the net, and around 200-300 people had rated it on MAL. Before it went OOS everywhere, I managed to buy all of the series; ending up rating it 9/10.

Hiroki Endo's Tanpenshu
Contained within this series of shorts is the two chapter long 'Platform', and I probably would give it 10/10 if I could rate it separately. Refer to my blog post (linked to on my profile) about it if you want to discover how reading Platform made me feel.

Ikigami
Arguably the best manga being released (officially) in English at the moment, and pretty much no-one knows/cares about it.

If you combined Death Note with Battle Royale, you'd probably get something similar to Ikigami. No humour, no boobs - just straight-up, episodic stories about the value of life and how to deal with death. The artist's ability to show the natural ugliness of humans with his excellent artwork impresses me.
