Andrew Eldritch (the leader of the Sisters of Mercy band) likes anime, mostly older movies like Akira and also hentai involving tentacles, like Urotsukidoji etc.

And this, Zac Efron stated he liked DeathNote and Bleach, and a big fan of shounen jump. He even stated he would love to play as light in a live action movie.

Kanye "Lemme just say" West apparently is a fan of Akira.
As is Leonardo DeCaprio, as he is producing and starring in the American Live-action version, according to rumour.

There are bound to be others, but it isn't something most celebs would parade around as animeis still seen as a wee bit geeky.
Though Zac Efron's apparent interest will probably up its popularity, and give us the headache of annoying know-nothing Efron fangirls. Though they can't be much worse than some of the weaboo fangirls we are used to.

This blog mentions a few of the rumoured 'celeb' fans, and their likes. Not that all of them are confirmed or anything.

I second that.
Also, John Leguizamo (an actor, really famous for voicing "Sid the Sloth" in the Ice Ages movies) was in a radio interview I heard last year. He said he likes to watch anime and read manga, although he didn't list any favorites.

The guys from Linkin Park all say they are big anime fans.
Keanu Reeves has said he likes Sci-fi anime and he's playing Spike now....
James Cameron is another big fan. He wants to do Battle Angel which would be interesting.
Quentin Tarentino is also a big anime fan.
Robin Williams is a huge anime fan. He collects a lot of anime, he mentions his love of anime in many, many interviews.

Ooh, they guys from Cinema Bizarre are anime fans (you might not have heard of them, but they're reasonably big in Germany and they opened for Lady GaGa during her tour).
They met at an anime convention.

I've heard of Jonathan Ross (I'm from the U.S.). He comes up in a lot of the David Bowie videos I find on YouTube. I didn't think he would be a big anime fan.

I remember Keanu Reeves saying that he's a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop in some interviews about the movie, but that wouldn't necessarily make him an anime fan. I do know that Quentin Tarentino is very much into both anime and Japanese culture, so he's a Japanophile XD.

Well I think that Light there is good enough. And L is just perfect.

I seriously don't see the big fuss as well. If he likes the series, that might actually be a good thing, since he will be able to play the character better. And he may have played in some rather 'unfortunate' movies before, but doesn't every actor/actress have so at the start of their career? The kid's just twenty-something. This might be a nice opportunity to show some more of his abilities. And plus, he has the looks. (Not the hot ones, though, he is handsome for a guy, I guess, perhaps even to the feminine side, but he does have a certain similiarity to Light, which you can't ignore). Done.

Now the question is... Anime fans, how do you feel about having people that even though they reveal their liking for fandom to a much bigger audience are not outcasts of society and do not complain about it?

I have a list of them, let me know which ones you would like a source of:

Tom Felton, known for Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies:
Fan of Kingdom Hearts and apparently Clannad

Zac Efron:
Reads a lot of Jump manga, namely Bleach, Naruto, Death Note, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Kanye West:
Fan of Lupin the 3rd, Akira, and hentai games.

Andrew WK:
Fan of Gundam and J Pop

Hayley Williams (lead singer of Paramore):
Fan of Blood: The Last Vampire and Ergo Proxy, cosplayed from the former.

Will Smith:
Fan of classic anime like Speed Racer and Gatchaman, also a gigantic fan of Ultraman and cried on Japanese television when he met "him".

Tobey Maguire:
Fan of Robotech

Leonardo DiCaprio:
Fan of Ninja Scroll, Akira, and other 90's anime.

Robin Williams:
Fan of Evangelion

James Kyson Lee, known for Ando from Heroes:
Fan of Dragonball and 80's anime

Hulk Hogan:
Fan of Pokemon and apparently anime that aired on 4Kids like One Piece

Robert Pattinson, known for Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies:
Supposed fan of Mushishi and Kino's Journey. Only source is a tripfag on /a/ claiming to be him and even posting a picture of Pattinson with a timestamp. Exif data checked out that the timestamp was real but it is still unreliable.

Masi Oka, known for Hiro from Heroes:
Fan of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, 20th Century Boys, and other anime and manga

Gackt:
Huge fan of Gundam and Kamen Rider as well as many feudal based anime like Rurouni Kenshin.

Keanu Reeves:
Fan of Cowboy Bebop

Because Hollywood is the only place in the world where movies are made right? Let alone the only place that does anime adaptations.

I can name a few that were quite good:

Crying Freeman (The one with Mark Dacascos of course)
City Hunter
Initial D
GTO
Cromartie Highschool
Yatterman
Dororo
The Guyver 2: Dark Hero
Mushishi
Cutie Honey

This is awesome, but at the same time I'm not surprised given a lot of their music sounds like it would be right at home in NANA.

Non-quote related, Robert Pattinson continues to prove he has great taste and is just part of a really shitty franchise.
