Yeah Clamp's series weren't all that great. But I loved most of their work. I hope you get into xxxHolic. I like the series well gotta read volume 4. Tokyo Babylon's all conversations and stuff doesn't interest me that much especially the conversation of the 3 main characters. I find it too much and boring. I don't know its unusual for me to feel like this with my fave mangaka LOL.

Yup that is what I heard from Sakura, she said Clamp school Detectives is episodic and could have been better...

LOL they are really overrated! I totaly agree. I think because such overrated mangaka and manga series. Other great underhyped titles and mangaka isn't having exposures because of this.

I'm currently obsessed with:
-Karin
-Nana
-Please Save My Earth(Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere, though. >_<;.)
-Hana Yori Dange(Please don't tell me this is going OOP. :(. I only need to finish the last 6 volumes, and I don't want to be left hanging for all eternity.)
-Gakuen Alice(I REALLY hope this one doesn't go under. :(. I think if it did, Viz would take it, though. I think it's too popular in Japan not to, and I'm sure it's popular enough here, too. I'm amazed they never took The Good Witch of the West.)
-Shugo Chara

@Filia_Ryuuza, I feel your pain! I am hunting down the 13th volume of Please Save My Earth!

I don't think the last volume of Hana Yori Dango is OOP but they are not usually sold in my local library.. Hopefully you get them before they go OOP. I think some volumes are OOP already though.

However I have to say something, even though I like Clamp, I think they are a tad overrated. They make some good stories, but sometimes it seems like people give them too much credit (Clamp = Manga Gods type of credit). It's a little absurd, they do write & draw well, but I've seen better and equally good mangaka. Eh, but that's just my opinion.

Even though I'm a fan of Clamp, I kinda agree as well. I think that they're great when it comes to art/character designs and unique concepts, but in some of their series, their storytelling isn't all that great. Some of them are still fun to read though to a certain extent, but yeah, just because they've done a lot of stories doesn't mean they're "gods". Quantity does not necessarily equal quality.

Please Save My Earth: You're going to have to get this online 'cuz they don't really sell this series in bookstores anymore. Volumes that are hardest to find/going out of print are 1, 7, 9, 10, and 13 (7 and 13 are the hardest and most expensive to get).

Hana Yori Dango: Last time I checked, none of the later volumes are going OOP yet. Though for some reason, volume 16 is getting harder to find (glad I got this when I did though). But yeah, like Please Save My Earth, they don't really sell this series in bookstores anymore. My local bookstore for example, they might carry the latest release but they never carry all the other volumes, especially since this series is so long and takes up a lot of shelf space.

Now I know why some people did their manga shopping online. Buying at bookstores can be so limiting in choices sometimes >_<

Hi guys, well since I finished reading Forbidden Dance 3 recently, I guess I'll talk about it :D Okay here goes:

The one shot "Princess Line" in the third volume of Forbidden Dance was cute, but a little cheesy. Still overall I enjoyed it. Has anyone else read it? If yes, what did you think of it? Was the ending cheesy (or maybe it's just me)?

I've read it, and yeah I thought the same thing. It's pretty much like the majority of oneshots: short and kinda cliche/predictable. Still enjoyable as a oneshot though.

Have you finished reading all of Forbidden Dance yet? I think that volume 4 should have a couple more oneshots.

nope, I just need volume four :)
Good to hear it has more one shots, I like bonuses, but I guess that means the main story ends quickly, and the mangaka filled the rest of the volume with one shots. That could be good or bad. Is the ending good (for forbidden dance)?

Forbidden Dance: Sadly, the main story DOES end rather quickly. Like, not even half of the volume, LOL. I notice that a lot of manga are like this. Not that I really mind, but I don't like it that much when mangaka try to squeeze in every little thing in the last volume (Forbidden Dance you can't really do much about since it seems the mangaka had already planned for the series to be about 4 volumes anyway).

One short story is takes place before the main story begins (like a prequel) and the other short story has nothing to do with the main story but it still pretty entertaining.

Maison Ikkoku: I just finished reading all 15 volumes within a week and while some of the characters/situations were kinda annoying and the romance gets dragged out over a number of years, I still really enjoyed it! I could actually relate to the whole getting into college and looking for a job thing that the main guy, Yusaku was going through. Definitely a nice, fun slice of life = )

Chicago: I've had this sitting on my bookshelf for awhile so being the Tamura Yumi fan (mangaka of Basara), I finally decided to read it! I must say, in addition to her latest work (7Seeds), she's really good at doing shoujo with a shounen-ish kind of feel. Like her kind of shoujo is the type that isn't all girly and fluffy if that makes much sense. Like even people who don't normally read shoujo for such reasons, can find enjoyment in some of Tamura's works = )

I'd love to get my hand on the manga of Saiunkoku Monogatari, a lovely manga and anime. There are DVD's of it, but the manga isn't licensed yet or so it seems. Such a pity. Also, I want the first volume of Shugo Chara, but that one isn't so hard to get.

Awesome to know, can't wait to see who the prequel is about (don't tell me, I want it to be a surprise :D) It would be good if it was about Akira because he isn't as well developed as I would like him to be XD

hmm. the complications DO get out of proportion at times....lots of drama in this one, but I can't remember being annoyed by that. I did get annoyed with the Mitaka situation getting dragged on near the end of the anime (haven't read that far into the manga though), but once he was out of the picture, it wasn't so bad. lol. Yeah, Yusaku is one of the few "weak" guys I like because he grows up. :)

I really appreciate Tamura-san, shoujo has too many fluffy manga as it is. Thanks to her and a few other mangaka, we can enjoy manga with less fluff! :D
I don't mind fluffy and girly manga, but it has to be done right. If not, I usually can't stand it. ehehehe. I tend to like really young puppy love type fluff, but I tend to get annoyed by teenage girly manga. I think it's because it isn't so innocent anymore, and I get annoyed at how naive the characters can get =/
Not always the case, but 90% of the time it is. For me to like naive characters the characterization has to be solid. But now I'm just rambling, so I'll stop. XD

I felt sorry whenever something came up between Yusaku and Kyoko because of some misunderstanding and the misunderstanding gets dragged 'cuz of the neighbors, etc. The only time I've ever really been annoyed was with this one female character, but since you're watching the anime, she doesn't show up until much later (well she shows up in the later volumes of the manga).

I agree. I like some fluffy manga (if done right) but yeah, I kinda hate it when a manga insults my intelligence if you know what I mean. Fluffy and light should be entertaining, not like make me go, "What the heck? That/he/she is so dumb."

Banana Fish: To anyone that is collecting this series, I have probably bought the last 2nd edition of volume 3 off eBay (last time I checked) for $22! Now all I ever see are just the 1st editions of volume 3 (the larger sized volume). Good luck finding a 2nd edition of volume 3 for anyone that still needs it . . .

Are you talking about the school girl? I didn't care at first, but when she came back, it drove me crazy too. (But the anime introduced her really late, as you said, so she didn't get too annoying XD) But your right it did drag on a bit too much, maybe if it was 2 or 3 volumes shorter it would have been better. But since we're talking about Takahashi, 14 volumes is short for her.lol. (although her mermaid saga was, only 3 volumes! shockingly! it's another manga I have my eye on, one of the comic shops I frequent has volume 1 and a lot of copies of volume 2)

*bump* ;)

Currently I'm enjoying G・DEFEND, which is just a fun, episodic, and kinda sappy story. I read some a while ago and recently picked it back up after buying most of the books. Although I like the main characters, there's also lots of side characters that are rather interesting and I'd wish they'd pay attention to more. There's actually a couple of interesting women working in their high demand security environment that would be nice to see more about. And there's this really amusing doctor (he's a happy, fat guy with a bushy mustache and eyebrows--a rarity in these kinds of manga ^_^;;) that I REALLY want to see more of. I'm only 11 of 35+ volumes in though, so there's lots more to go.

@shinkeikaku: G-Defend seems interesting. I'll have to check that out *adds to Plan to Read list*

But wow, 35 volumes total is a lot, LOL.

Series that I'm currently "obsessed" about is anything by Naoki Urasawa. I recently started reading 20th Century Boys, Pluto and Monster.

I'm also enjoying Shin Angyo Onshi which is a manhwa. It has a little bit of everything: action, adventure, fantasy, comedy and drama. It's one of those series that doesn't feel too special at first, but gets better as you read it and while it does have a lot of action and little "story arcs", everything slowly begins to connect together on a grander scale and the main plot is pretty consistent.

@sakura_r0se: Shin Angyo Onshi looks like something I'd like. I'm definitely a sucker for fantasy/adventure with nice art. And yeah, I'll be reading G Defend for a while! It's been going on since the early 90's and is still publishing. Morimoto Shuu is a talented mangaka. :)

I recently finished another series that I'm not quite over yet--LIFE☆SWITCH. It's exactly the type of thing I enjoy reading. It's not a brilliant or beautiful work, but it's fun. I don't think the mangaka has written anything else either, which is sad. I'd recommend it in the member's rec thread, but I think it has a 0.5% chance of ever appearing in English. :(

Both :( It's rare enough as an import and I don't know of anyone else who knows of it. If I die and leave my manga to scanlation groups or something, I plan on making them do that one to receive other series XD

I really want to try out claymore! I probably will, just not now (I can't read anything super long because I tend to get obsessive and then my school work suffers :[)

btw: 20th century boys is really good, but be warned, it's really hard to put down once you start, so make sure you have no important commitments when you start it. lol. It's all the mysteries, they keep you reading and reading XD

I haven't been reading much lately, so I don't have much to obsess over, I did read two volumes of Akira not too long ago and I'm planning on finishing soon (hopefully). It's really good (like 20th century boys, although I think 20th century is better because it keeps the suspense up longer)

I've also read the first chapter of Mint de Kiss Me. But it's nothing really special. It's cute and I was entertained, but so far I'm not obsessed.lol.

I really like Claymore. It's one of my favorite shounen action series. Too bad only 1 chapter is released per month, it makes the manga releases come out so slow, but I guess it's worth it for the quality of story.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the shounen series that only come out 1 chapter a month or whatever as opposed to weekly (like Weekly Shounen Jump), seem to have a higher quality of storytelling than other typical shounen series that often hit a "slump" every now and then with their endless fighting/fillers, etc.

@soaring_wings: Ah, Mint de Kiss Me . . . an older Watase series. I'm going to have to check this out just for the heck of it, though I don't find many of her older short series to be anything special, but they're still a nice light read.

As for me, I'm not quite "obsessed" with this series, but I am enjoying it. It was actually recommended by one of the HGM members, Sin. It's Eden: It's an Endless World. I highly recommend it if you're into stories about a post-Apocalyptic world or something.

In this case, this takes place when a huge population of the world was killed off due to some weird diseases. I know that some of the members here are reading Akira with me in the R.E.A.D. club. If anyone is familiar with the Akira movie or manga, if you like that series and its post-apocalyptic settings, then one might like Eden in that it shows the aftermath of society and all the corruption and violence that goes on.

CLAMP's current series are great especially Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE and xxxHOLiC, though I have yet to read the latter. I also hope they will finish X/1999 and some of their other works soon.

As for their old titles, I am currently interested in RG Veda the most. Legal Drug seems to be a good read but the fact that it is on hiatus is not so encouraging. Can you please recommend some of their best old titles.

After rereading Asterisk and looking forward to purchasing volume 5 soon, it definitely qualifies as an obsessed series. ;) Volume 2 is when it crossed the line for me.

I'm obsessed with a lot of Ichiraci series actually and have been madly buying all of them that I can. Not an easy or cheap feat considering the low circulation and age of many. ^_^;;

Silver Diamond is the obvious one. I was obsessed from chapter 1.
Hakkenden. New volume 4/20! YES! Volume 5 or so I think is when it really got good.
Depending how the new volumes of Umi no Kishidan go, it might get promoted to obsessed. ;)

Somehow I get the feeling that Clamp doesn't intend on ever finishing Legal Drug especially since that they have the lengthier and more popular xxxHolic (which is also supernatural but without the shounen-ai of Legal Drug) = /

I haven't seen the MKR aniime but I've read the manga and didn't think that it was anything special. This may mostly be 'cuz I've read so much stories about a girl/girls getting lost in another world, but end up being the "chosen" one to save it, etc. and I've read better.

I'm going crazy on several ongoing manga series now. Here's some of my favorites:

Nana - yeah yeah it's quite weird for a guy like me to like Nana but I can't help falling for it being so realistic. The plot doesn't just define the slice of life genre, Yazawa Ai takes it to the next level revealing the dark and the bright side of 'fate'.

Eyeshield 21 - This proves the importance of intelligence in every battle. It made me think that if superman and lex luthor were fighting and neither of them are evil or good, it's safe to say that the man of steal will be defeated.

Change 123 - Yeah, I mean it, it's just a matter of fan 'services'. Hot girls that kicks ass! Moe~

Bakuman - coolest shounen, slice of life manga series out there.

Superior - I'm fond of "rivals-turned-lovers" romance plots and this one surely rocks.

The newest volumes of Hakkenden and Boku to Kanojo no XXX have only fueled my obsession. But having to wait another YEAR for the next Boku to Kanojo no XXX volume douses it a bit. :/

I'm enjoying Houou Gakuen Misoragumi as well. I wasn't sure if it would stay interesting after the first volume, but it did.

I've been obsessed with Banana Fish since this past winter. Friend got them for me for xmas/bday/late high school grad gift (and some other stuff). I was back for less than two weeks (I did winter session), but certainly read it all in that time and then took them back to school with me and re-read them. Since then, I've started re-reading them again pretty recently, on vol 5 again.

For years, Maison Ikkoku, I was getting them as they came out starting around when vol 2 game out I believe. It was one of the first series I gradually collected, I'd get $20 or weekly allowance back in high school and if there was a new MI, it got first priority for buying over all else. I used to get way more manga back in high school now I think about it.

Last month, I managed to track down vol 1 and 13 of Please Save My Earth and re-read the series. Also had my friend come over (I do lend her manga, but not this one, too tough to get a hold of!) and she enjoyed it as well. I lent her the OVA, which is how I found out about the series (6 episode =/= 21 volumes) and determined the manga probably did a heck of a lot more and was right! She didn't get a chance to watch the OVA, but at least her younger sister did.

Those are probably always gonna be the 3 big ones for me, the only ones I've rated 10.

oh damn, near forgot about Liar Game. I turned a few friends to this series at college and we all wait with baited breath for the new chapter! Probably check for a new chapter twice a day at least it seems.

As of right now I am reading Love.Com. I loved the anime so I had to pick the manga up and I was not disappointing. It is so funny. And different.

I am also reading Immortal Rain. I hope the ninth comes out.

I have read a bunch of x/1999. I must say that I love it. Such a good manga.

Not so much a series but an entire area in manga. I am currently really into the entire underground, alternative, and experiemental works. So I care more about the authors/artists rather then the series. Such people are Kiriko Nananan, Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Fredic Boilet, Katsuhiro Otomo, Jiro Taniguchi, Asano Inio, and Taiyo Matsumoto to name a few. This thread on ANN is very informative and I noticed that there are very few works noted by the club that fit the bill for this subculture of manga. All very good and few very long works (spanning multiple volumes), so many shorts stories abound. It is hard to get a hold of them and the most reliable source is actually buying the book since they are usually not scanned. I'm still debating whether to buy the anthologies Secret Comics Japan, Comics Underground--Japan, or Memories of Her... (some of the early works of Otomo).

EDIT: Just snagged a cheap copy of Secret Comics Japan off of Ebay and I am planning on buying Memories of Her... tomorrow.

No, no. That's Lame. Sounds like something out of a Jodorowsky comic.

The Tokusyu Manga Club - Features alternative comics/avant-garde comics/outsider comics/psychdelic comics/surrealistic comics/underground comics + La Nouvelle Manga (part of Alternative).

If I'm here, its because I have nothing better to do.

I am also hunting for more of CLAMP's earlier works, which most of them are OOP.

I'm a Clamp whore but I have to ask. What is OOP?

I'm renewing my love for Tsubasa Chronicles. After having backlogged 6 volumes, I finally sat down to read them again. OMG! I love it so much. I'm having to make myself slow down. LOL

Fushigi Yuugi Genbu is another one of my current obsessions as well as Ayashi no Ceres. I plan on completing AnC this year but I feel like I'm waiting forever for the next volume of FYG to come out. No reading this stuff online. These are keepers for me. I read some of Fruits Basket online, a series that I'm collecting the manga for, and when I sat down to read the manga in my hands, my experience was ruined because I had "already read it". So I just impatiently wait for the ones I physically collect. ^.^

OOP = Out Of Print

I absolutely love X, but I don't think they will ever finish it :-( My current obsession is Dogs: Bullets and Carnage I have no idea why I love it, but I do.

Currently I only have two obsessions one being Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden, and Loveless.

Genbu Kaiden is just awesome, in my opinion it out shines the first series which I was also obsessed with for some time. The characters are like able, not to mention the plot is one I like a lot. I wish it came out faster in the Unties States, to be honest but the mangaka has a lot on her right now.

As for Loveless I adore the shounen ai/yaoi genre, and this is one of my favorite shounen ai's. The plot is so unique, a little confusing at times but still interesting its different and original. Though its a shame it takes forever for the volumes to come out, but still a great read!!
What you saw at the castle on that windy night ,and what you saw at the bridge last night .. how I smiled, never utter a word to anyone. If you dare speak .. I will find where you are .. And I will kill you. Kill you. I will rip you apart .. crush your bones And eat your flesh.. I will drink your blood. I will .. devour you.

I watched the anime and I really enjoyed it, so now I started to read the manga. I'm really liking it so far. I think I'm going to start purchasing volumes for it as well. :D

so obsessed with Skip Beat, Vampire Knight, Captive Hearts, Kaze Hikaru, Merupuri (all over again), Hot Gimmick.

I have so much more that I need to get off my shoulders, but I don't want to take too much space so for now I'll only these.

But really if just one, I'll say currently Kaze Hikaru and Skip Beat.
If I'm no longer replying back, means my life is busy. As simple as that. Will get back as life settle down.

Aside from the popular favorites (like skip beat, air gear, etc)

I'm currently reading Bloody Monday, Bakuman, Until Death Do Us Part, REAL, Nodame Cantabile.

The one i really look forward to is Bloody Monday. (kinda death note-esque, withgood art, and i'm happy to say: less word balloons X3)

I recently finished "Eden" from Hikori Endo - so far the only manga series with so many volumes I was willing to read to the end. It was pretty awesome, but the main plot found a rather disappointing ending in my opinion, the many side plots were somewhat more interesting. I hope I will find another manga with a quality of this kind, but I'm afraid there isn't much that will come close to my expectations.

I'm currently reading "Blame!" from Tsutomu Nihei, but that one seems to be rather well known. It's really something unique, I like it's dark style and gloomy plot, but I keep wondering about what's happening in specific scenes, especially in battles. Everything is pitch-dark, the background, the characters and so on, it's hard to see the details. Or Nihei just simply has some problems with drawing it more clearly, I'm not sure.

I also started "Please Save My Earth" from Saki Hiwatari a few years ago. I made it to the - let me guess - 5th or 6th volume or so. It's interesting, but it lost my main attention when I got to read some other mangas, especially Eden. I might continue it soon again, but I will probably first get all the other volumes too in order to avoid making a break with that series again. It's definitely not that much "hardcore" like Eden or Blame!, one would call it a Shoujo teenager series I guess, but it has still some nice ideas and interesting dramatic situations.

Thanks to duelistbluerose, I've been into Shadow Star (Narutaru) and Bokurano lately. I'm actually reading both at the same time = )

They're both very mysterious series and that's one of the main reasons why seinen is now my favorite genre is because a lot of them are mysteries that no matter how weird and unusual they may be, there's just something about them that just makes me want to continue reading and that's how I feel about these 2 series.

@Argalet: I'm still waiting for the Eden scans to finish, but otherwise I've read through most of this series as well.

I'm also interested in checking out Blame!

Im glad you're enjoying them ^_^ but wow - reading BOTH at the same time? You'll need a shrink after your finished.

and where are you reading naru taru? are you reading the un-edited version that I linked on the club wall? i hope so because if you're reading it on a scanlation page there's going to be a lot missing from it. reading bokurano on www.onemanga.com is fine though.

Right now I'm really enjoying Fullmetal Alchemist, Seven Days and Golden Days. Golden Days has a very interesting plot and you can't not love the characters. Fullmetal Alchemist is (so far) perfect <3. As for Seven Days, it's just too cute :)
