SynopsisSawa Rakan is a normal high school student living a quiet life alone, tending to his many lush plants. This peace is disrupted when a foreign man and several dangerous creatures suddenly crash into his garden. The man immediately turns his odd plant-like weapon on Rakan, but after seeing it respond to Rakan's touch, his attitude completely changes. The man, Chigusa, declares that Rakan is a precious "sanome," a person who can cultivate plant life at will.
Being the last known sanome, Chigusa vows to protect Rakan at all costs and asks for his support. Chigusa is an infamous outlaw that aims to destroy the ayame creatures that siphon life from his dying world, including the current prince who oddly looks exactly like Rakan.
Rakan travels to Chigusa's desert world that is filled with despondent people, strange creatures, spirits, and magic. Along the way, they gather more followers and supporters in their quest to return green to the barren, decaying land.

This manga is a GREAT read. The story is a pleasant yet unusually complex exploration of friendship, the value of living, and how these views change through betrayal and newfound trust. I thought it was a hilariously, uplifting and sweet shonen-ai. Yet there were darker themes, such as family abandonment and loneliness, giving it added depth.
The Mangaka sucks you in with the art, it's creative and yet mind warping ideas that reinforce it's portrayal of a fantasy-inspired parallel Japan universe (Flower webs, Living pretty tree guns, seed clocks that grow on trees, Crystal water snakes etc, etc).
It could also be considered a harem, only instead of cute females protecting/serving the main male character, it's hunk-o-dory male eye candies doing the work (Not sure what you would call that. Reverse-reverse-harem??^__^
The only down side is that it's not completely translated. I wish the scantalators hadn't stopped at volume 8, and according to Baka-updates, it's been a year since anyone's updated it. T^T *grrrr* read more

What I love most about this series is that every chapter is sixty pages long with tons of dialog. So when a new chapter comes out, I can enjoy it for up to twenty minutes before I get to the end and have to suffer waiting for the next one.
...let's try that again. The amazing thing about this manga is that Sugiura doesn’t forget *anything*. I hear she only plans two or three chapters in advance? But considering the size of the chapters this is like planning an entire volume in advance. Her attention to detail is, frankly, obsessive, but it's that obsession that makes Silver Diamond so very, very, very solid.
A bit of history: Sugiura Shiho's previous work, Koori no mamono no monogatari (Ice Cold Demon's Tale), ran to 24 volumes -- an insane, unheard-of length for a BL (Boys Love) manga. However she has said that Silver Diamond will (probably) be shorter. read more

Many similarities including a boy who doesn't want to be alone and has a group of friends, all with special skills. in this case, rakan and yuki both have a special power that is very important, have similar personalities and needs to be protected. in another case, one friend from the group are really protective of the main character. For the plot, both groups from SD and Uragiri are trying to save the world
in all, you get the same feeling for both
Rakan, much like Yuki, is the epitome of innocence, is an orphan, is a high-school student, and has special powers that make him precious and worth protecting. Manga also has creatures called 'ayame' that are very similar to 'duras', and the main guy who is protecting Rakan obviously has feelings for him while Rakan seems somewhat oblivious about it, much like Luka and Yuki. (Shounen-ai)

Epic shoujo fantasy manga characteristic of Ichiraci magazine that have powerful, yet sensitive male leads who all characters naturally gravitate towards, even their enemies.
Both have gorgeous art in simular styles, include elements of fantasy mixed with reality, a cast that is prodominently male, and border on the line of BL. In each story, the main manifestation of the "evil creatures" also look very simular.
