Absolutely beautiful. I love it as much as I love 5 cm per second.

P.S. Gin was so kakkoii! x)

My Neighbor Totoro meets 5 Centimeters per Second?

This would've been much better if it were a full-length movie. Definitely too short.

And then

And I was like: ok....

I just found the transition to be too awkward to actually find it sad.

As a Natsume fan, I loved this. Everything was done very well and the music seemed especially spectacular this time.

It was almost refreshing having Gin suddenly disappear like that and how Hotaru went from bliss because she gets to hug him and then sad the next moment because he's no longer there.

If anything could be changed, then some extra padding would be nice, maybe a few minutes to wrap up the ending and see what Hotaru does.

ARRRHHHGGGG!!! I told myself I wasn't going to cry!!! I was even mentally prepared for it and I knew it was going to happen, but as soon as those kids came running I was going to see that scene...and so I burst into tears......

I've grown weak OTL but then again I'm weak to all of Yuki Midorikawa's works

really nice relaxing short film liked the relationship between the two of them (felt very pure),but it's sad that he ended up disappearing even though i felt it would happened just how it did felt a bit sudden and unexpected to much for it to effect me fully as others had said if it was a bit longer and he ended up touching while protecting her for whatever reason would had been better imo.

still glad they got to touch in the last moments though

As much as i feel it wasn't the best choice of the ending, with the child happening to be a human and all - i still loved the movie. I'm weak for drama but halfway through i though i won't cry on this one... How mistaken i was...

Such a beautiful and fresh feeling movie, I really enjoyed it!

The music was really lovely in this, and the light concept was played out really beautifully.

As soon as he touched that child's hand, I just knew it was going to turn out to be a human child. I even teared up which surprised me since I can't remember ever getting attached to a character so quickly, enough to cry for them..

Reaching out his arms and telling her that they could finally hug, and seeing their happiness until he faded away, it was so upsetting.

It'll definitely be one that I will rewatch again and again, it was so short but it is truly a beautiful movie!

A little gem of a beautiful film...Gin was dreamy and so serene and in love with Hotaru...and how she not come to love him in return? They cherished their precious time together...such sweetness is rare in short anime films these days. I loved it...and will rewatch as well. My eyes teared up too as he faded away and she was left holding his Yukata and forever, to treasure that precious mask...10/10.

If Natsume series is any-ting like this movie, considering it is the same author, it will probably be my favorite series, because right now, I love this movie to death. T_T

Random question. At the festival scene, Gin says that sometimes there are humans who attend the festival as well. Hotaru remarks "Like Iwa and her friends, huh?" - which I don't get (and neither did Gin, apparently). Is this a reference to something?

At the beginning, Hotaru's uncle mentions that "Iwa and her friends" - which the viewer might infer to be close family - find a festival in the middle of the forest. He goes on to reason that it must be something supernatural, since the villagers would never have a festival in such a place.

The movie itself was touching and really, really cute. For all the dry & thoughtless SoLs we get every season, this was refreshing. A gem, I'd say, crafted with surprising respect and good taste. I just wish the author had emphasized the theme of "moving on" with more force. The pair's parting seemed more accidental than it should've been.

This was so sad. I cried for the last ten or so minutes just because their love story was so very cute and touching. I am disappointed slightly in how short it was but it made me feel a little reminiscent of the television show Pushing Daisies. Gin was such a gorgeous anime character and to see him disappear made me cry to say the least. I can only imagine how sad this would have made me if it was the length of an entire series. Still with what the staff worked with and the small time frame available to them I think they did a wonderful job. It makes me want to watch Natsume in complete now. :3

it was definitely good, but kinda disappointed in how he just randomly touched a random kid and disappeared...all those times he didn't touch her, but his supposed reflex just grabbed the kid...

if you think about it, his instincts probably should've been to dodge instead of grab....

but meh, aside from that, very predictable, but good ^^

oh my god what in the world did i just watch T_______T i don't think i'll even be able to write a coherent review... it was just... just... i can't even. 10/10

p.s. how do you people not see how wonderful it is that he disappeared because he touched a "random kid"?? am i the only one who thought it was a brilliant move? it was absurd yet it's like it was just what they needed.. someone unrelated finally broke that seemingly endless cycle for them, prevented the more and more sadness that would have followed... i can't explain it well, but i -loved- how he disappeared because of someone else.

45 mins of amazing.... i am left speechless.

The story was so heartwarming. I hate it when it comes to anything related to fireflies, because I know I will end up with teary eyes.

A worthy Anime Movie of the year. Now I want to see movies made out of Midorikawa-sensei's other three writings. She is amazing.

I felt so bad for Hotaru. T_T
And Gin lived such a life full of agony, yet he accepted everything.

And the anime with probably one of the best kisses ever. When Gin put that mask on Hotaru and kissed her on top of it... so much affection T_T

10/10. I am so happy it won the 66th Mainichi Award. :')

Oh my goodness... I knew that the ending was going to make me bawl, but I was still hoping that some kind of miracle would let Gin and Hotaru stay together. ;___; That would have been a bit too convenient though and would have taken away from the emotional impact of the ending, which was extremely bittersweet and touching. The fact that Gin and Hotaru looked so content when they finally touched each other was really sweet and sad at the same time. I absolutely LOVED this movie (though like everybody else has commented, it was too short!!) and I will definitely be re-watching it plenty of times in the near future!

meh...kind of a waste of time.

REALLY reminded me of Natsume Yuujinchou...obviously, since it's from the same creator. But I only found out about that afterwards. I expected something totally different and was therefore disappointed.

It didn't make me as teary as I thought it would. But the manga of this was a one-shot, so it's still awesome. Damn, and I loved Gin's eyes. I wished they actually kissed in the end though, as a farewell present. :(

I will miss Gin. </3

And to those people who haven't seen Natsume Yuujinchou... GO NOW. WATCH NOW. MARATHON IT. DROP ALL ELSE AND WATCH NATSUME.

It was a beautiful yet sad ending. I think that this the first time that an anime made me shed a few tears, in a long time. I would love a sequel but I don't think it needs one, the viewer should be able to make their own ending.

I'm really glad I watched this, and thankfully I made the right decision to watch it at not and not on campus!

Everything was good.

I loved/hated the ending.
Love - They could finally hug each other.
Hated - Why they couldn't be with each other in the end.
Still that made the bittersweet ending perfect.

9/10
One of the best.
