In the year of 20XX, a young boy by the name of Netto Hikari receives a very special gift as he enters the 5th grade. His very own customized net navi, Rockman! Despite Rockman's small size and far more responsible personality, the two boys quickly become the best of friends. A net navi is designed to guide his operator from the inside of his or her PErsonal Terminal, or simply PET for short. Children and adults alike enjoy friendly "Net Battles", where they spar their navis against each other to prove their worth.

Anime: Accel World
Both have a futuristic "Twenty minutes into the future" style setting that is mainly focused around a interconnected cybernetic world that at first appears to be a video game; but is later shown to be something else that has far more dangerous consequences and potential for abuse in the real world. Both shows also focus on the protagonist's circle of friends as equally as it focuses on him.

Anime: Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers
Kids use digital based hero's to fight bad guy's and their digital villains.

Hero's and navies are stored in devices. PET/DISK.

Both anime's use classic characters from other works.

Battling evil organization that has the same power as kids.

Anime: Gundam Build Fighters
both are about boys who were bad players at a popular arena battle game, but then gets a new awesome Gundam/Navi that helps them become one of the strongest players there is

Differences: Gundam is about robot toys and the story has the main character's partner as his Gundam's pilot; Mega/Rockman is about virtual AI and the story has the main character's partner as the AI

Anime: Net Ghost Pipopa
This series delves into human and computer inhabiting creatures coexisting together, there are also digital enhancements, internet battling, rivalry between key characters, and both have respective video games for each franchise. The difference is that Net Ghost PiPoPa is more educational and tugs at the heart strings a bit more than Rockman.EXE, had fewer story arcs, and was never dubbed.

Anime: Dragon Drive
In both of these series, the main character is a brown-haired guy who's a bit of a loser in some way at first. But then through different means, each gets a digital companion (who they both thought were weak at first) and do battles with others in a game-like setting.

The main characters are very similar, they even have the same voice actor, and there are several other characters who share voices between the two shows.

Both shows feature a digital world where people battle.

Both are shounen.
