In 1614, the Keichō Embassy arrived to Spain in their trip to Rome. When they came back after failing their mission, they came back and rested in Coria del Río (Seville) before returning to their country, and some Japanese stayed there to live. In their honour, the surname “Japón” came to be, and that marked the beginning of the good relationship between Japan and Spain, particularly Andalusia... or so we thought. Recent investigations have shown that the origin of the Japan surname doesn't come from the Keichō Embassy, but the feelings of deep friendship between the cultures was real.
Four centuries later, Spain continues to be an inspiration for the pinnacle of Japanese culture, which of course is anime. Actually… there are not that many related to Spain, are there? This stack will delve deep into anime with some sort of relationship to Spain so that you can surprise your friends with some obscure knowledge that they probably will not appreciate.
All of these anime have something to do with Spain. Due to their prevalence, references to paella specifically (it’s rice with things anyway), bullfighters with no further mention to Spain, or the simple appearance of a Spanish flag or the name of the country appearing in the background will not make it to this list. Almost every other reference is fair game.

Cuando volvieron de su infructuosa conversación con el papa, se quedaron a descansar en Coria del Río (Sevilla) antes de volver a su país. Debido a lo común que es, no se incluirá anime cuyas referencias se limiten a paella (o arroz con cosas, según se mire), toreros sin mayor mención al país, o banderas y/o el nombre España en el fondo de la pantalla sin mayor relevancia. Casi cualquier otra referencia es válida.

Classic 20th-century series and films that most old-school otaku have heard of and many older fans will cite as the reason they became a life-long weeb in the first place. Some have gotten sequels or modern reboots, while others have been relegated to the past and stand alone as fondly-remembered products of their time. If you want to take a journey through anime history, these shows are the place to start!

These classic series aired on Nickelodeon back in the 80s and 90s.

Before the network began focusing on creating its own in-house animation in the 90s, it relied heavily on foreign programming. In addition to Japanese content, Nickelodeon also purchased airing rights to a number of European shows, such as the fondly-remembered Spanish series "The World of David the Gnome" and the French-produced "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea". The network's interest in purchasing foreign animation eventually fizzled out after the "Nicktoons" brand's rise in popularity.

These travelers wander from place to place for various reasons. They may travel the land for their job, be on a journey due to a strong sense of wanderlust, or are adventurers on a quest of some sort. Others may be homeless, exiled, or on the run and have no place to put down roots. Basically, a list of non-isekai shows from various genres where the characters change location frequently.

Hello everyone, I will try to list here a long list of anime that have been broadcast on French television, being as faithful as possible.

The 80s represent the very first generation of successful Japanese cartoons to land on televisions of the time.
This wave is mainly marked by the youth program "Récré A2" broadcast from July 3, 1978 until June 29, 1988 on the Antenne 2 channel.

There are also some films and series that date from before 1978 in this list but they did not have a huge impact in France, the year 1978 especially marks the arrival of Grendizer [UFO Robo Grendizer] who was a real pop-cultural tidal wave for years, which we still see its influence today. It will of course be accompanied by equally cult anime throughout the 80s and 90s.

I tried to make this list using mostly lesser-known fanservice-free anime. Most of these make the list based on having MAL ratings lower than PG-13 or having clean ratings for no sexual content or nudity on doesthedogdie.com. Some of the selections in the list do have fanservice in the original Japanese version that was omitted for the Western release.

I've tried to keep it to one season/entry per show, and excluded series that finished airing after the end of 2000.

Anime for people who hate anime. This list was made based on recognizability to Western audiences, lack of fanservice, and lack of typical anime tropes.

Anime where journeys become the main focus of the theme and story. Where one is able to grow and learn about themselves, the people, and the world around them.

The destination, is the result of one’s journey and what they experienced from it. A journey is inherently a learning and humbling experience. Where one doesn't even need to head in the right direction, instead of finding relief and fulfillment within the journey.

Minimum score: 7.60.
Productions related to a previous one are excluded, excep remakes, reboots, and some other special cases.
