You are a person who loves fighting anime and is looking for something with epic battles and intense rivalries. Or you are someone who is looking for a good laugh and an entertaining anime that will last you for awhile. Or, you are somebody who is simply looking for an amazing anime that has all the right pieces that make it extraordinary. If any of those above scenarios fit you, simply put, Shijou Saikyou No Deshi Kenichi (History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi) is a must-watch anime for you to pick up on.
The story, although simple at heart, becomes more complex at the surface as the anime progresses through the episodes. Kenichi is your run-of-the mill weakling kid who is always getting picked on by everyone and has no confidence in his abilities whatsoever. But that doesn't stop him from doing the right thing and stepping into some pretty hairy situations despite his shortcomings. The story begins with Kenichi wanting to get stronger because of his will to protect his friends. As a result, he joins the Ryōzanpaku dojo and from there on out, every episode has meaning, and will have you wanting for more. The story ends with Kenichi in an final showdown verses the leader of the most intense gang in Japan - Ragnorak. Just from that, it gives you the sense that the plot development is spectacular in this show.
The art for Kenichi is well done. All of the characters are drawn very well and have distinguishing characteristics that cosplay members will love to create. Animation is also done very well, as you have great battles and very few repetition of frames.
Arguably, the sound is probably the weakest point of the anime, and its not even that weak. Opening/ending songs are pretty good and the scores used throughout the anime fit quite well with the current scene you are watching. However, it is the voices to each character that really brings all the characters alive, as you can feel the emotion from all of the characters.
The character design in HSD Kenichi is so original and great, that you'll wonder why nobody has ever came up with this before. Kenichi is trained by six masters, who all specialize in a different form of martial arts. All of their personalities are so different and unique, you'll also wonder how each of them get along in the first place. Hence, the many comedic moments and episodes that you'll inevitably witness as they all fight amongst themselves to be the one who trains Kenichi. Ah, and let's not forget the beautiful Miu Furinji, Kenichi's love interest, who, unlike other female protagonists of similar plots, is one hell of a fighter and the reason Kenichi joins the dojo. As the anime progresses deeper in the story, you'll be unveiled to a plethora of unique characters who have different fighting styles and unique personalities, which will all amaze and have you laughing at the same time. For the sake of keeping this section as short as possible, I'm simply going to say character development is flawless in this anime.
Even with all of this that I have written about, this anime would be nothing without its comedy, and that is what makes Kenichi so much fun and enjoyable to watch. You will be literally laughing out loud at some of the hellish training that Kenichi is forcibly put through and will wonder why he hasn't died yet. (Yes, the training is that hellish). Even with 50 episodes, the comedy of Kenichi never gets old and you'll find that to be the case right up to the very last episode. Hell, sometimes you'll wish that they had more comedy than serious fights, because its that good.
All in all, Kenichi is one of those rare anime shows out there that is able to blend in comedy with the overall serious plot extremely well. One of the few qualms that I did have with this show was that the ending occurred a little to quick and you'll also wish that they gave more information about the history of each of the masters, as they provide you with relatively very little on each one of them. In the end, once you watch the final episode of this anime, it will take you five seconds or so to wish that there would be a second season to it. read more

History's Greatest Disciple Kenichi starts off as somewhat slow and mediocre. I myself was forced to watch the first few episodes because I had already gotten a few and it seemed like a waste if I didn't even watch what I got. As the story progresses you are left with an endearment to Kenichi himself and maybe one (or all) of his masters. Simply put Kenichi's character is unlike anything I have ever seen. He's like a mixture of Ueki from Law of Ueki and take any lead character of a romantic comedy. Why? Basically, he has the comedic attributes that Ueki has. Unfortunately, he doesn't have that natural ability to be skillful when fighting. He has that "my friends are important" feature though. The comedy really doesn't come from him but from the situation he's in and how he reacts to it. Add, in that little mix from a romantic comedy and you've got yourself a Kenichi Shirahama.
I gave a 10 for the Characters not only because of this but because of the supporting characters namely his masters and Niijima, his love/hate friend. Its because that there is something to love about every one of them and you can just choose your favorite. I personally love Apachai Hopachai, his Muay Thai master.
The story is basically nothing from the ordinary. You've probably seen some like it, but what sets this story apart is how it is executed. Some things are obvious at the start and some things aren't There are a few surprises as the story progresses though. It's one of those "I'll protect the world stories" but with a comedic twist. I would say that the closest anime to Kenichi would be Law of Ueki. If you liked that, then I'm sure you'll love Kenichi.
Art and Sound are fair and at par with most anime. Although upon further reading, the cast is composed of familiar voices and new voices.
History's Greatest Disciple Kenichi is one anime that you will surely enjoy.
I give it a 9 out of 10 read more

Hajime no Ippo and Kenichi are very similar, mostly by looking at the main characters. Makunouchi is a weakling, Kenichi is a weakling. However, they both train hard and become stronger in order to achieve their goals. Makounouchi wants to know what it means to be "strong", and Kenichi wants to become stronger to protect his friends from harm.
Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi is the same as Hajime no Ippo but the difference that Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi is about Martial Arts and not about Boxing as in Hajime no Ippo.
They both are about bullied boys with no friends who discover fighting by meeting someone who beats up the bullies and the boy (Ippo/Kenichi) decides to take on fighting. Then they shift between training and facing enemies of increasing difficulty until the get to the one on top. Although there are some unavoidable differences (ippo boxes and his enimes are in the pro boxing scene and kenichi uses many different martal arts and fights the dominant gang, Rangarock and the humor is different too), the two anime are pretty much the exactly the same and although I´m not into martial arts or boxing, they are both entertaining, motivating, interesting and worth watching all the many episodes
I found Ippo and Kenichi really similiar when speaking about personality, also both start as weakling underdogs but after tremendous training both kickass. If you liked main character development, you should check this one.
Though Kenichi is about martial arts and Ippo is about boxing, these anime's have very similar main characters. They both start out weak and slowly get stronger and stronger. What I loved about these shows was watching them train and then seeing the results of their training come out in the middle of their fights! They are both also very funny series', though Kenichi is a bit more lighthearted and has a little more romance thrown in.
Hajime no Ippo and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi are very similiar. You can tell by looking at the pictures. Both Ippo and Kenichi are weaklings. They have been into fights and beaten but Ippo joins the Boxing Gym and Kenichi joins the Ryouzanpaku dojo so they can become stronger. They learn from their master and they both train hard to become strong so they can achieve their goals.
Both anime have a weak main character who strives to become stronger.
Similar leading characters that both train hard to become strong. Both get trained by masters at a gym, or in the case of kenichi at his Dojo.
Both have some good comedy moments, but more so kenichi.
Both shows are fun and the main characters are very similar both go from being weak to getting stronger.
Both animes are action packed combined with good humor. The story revolves around a character who used to be picked on, but gains confidence when training to become a better fighter. The difference is mainly between the style (boxing vs. martial arts) and the arena (boxing ring vs. street fights). If you like one of them, you WILL like the other one.
It's a lot like Ippo, but to me, it just seems a bit trite and full of fan service. Don't get me wrong, I have had a few lol's out of it (the voice acting makes Kenichi seem super frantic and twitchy, which I find humorous), but I wouldn't suggest it for older adults. It's a very teen oriented (is Shonen the right word???) series. Lots of training, fighting, and boobs.
There both about weaklings in high school who pick up a martial sport for multiple reasons and risew to the top of what ever there where trying to do.
Both are about developing fighting skills while staying humble
they were both weak from the start then with a little determination and sweat they've became strong .
Similar story about a boy who wants to get stronger. Lots of action and IMO a rare case where every significant character is actually interesting and likeable.
Similar characters. Both(ippo and kenichi) are weakling and they want to become stronger fir protect sonebody. The feeling is same.
i really like them also kenichi is a bit inspirated of hajime no ippo since the both where guys who where bullied

Both series seem to have a similar type of the main character: a good-natured boy who used to be a loser and then, through difficult training, he starts getting stronger and gets new friends on the way. In both animes the main character and his friends go through series of battles, increasingly more difficult, and their defeated rivals later become their allies and come to help.
The main characters, Tsuna and Kenichi, started out as losers before meeting up with their eventual masters, Reborn and the Ryozanpaku dojo respectively. Both consist of fairly comical aspects of the daily lives and training methods of both characters, as well as a action side other storyline. Very often, both cahracters will also try to impress their love targets, Kyoko and Miu, often with the help of their masters. Eventually, both mains also start getting their own followers in the form of the Vongola and Shinpaku, though it should be noted that neither are very fond of their roles as the leaders of their units.
IMO, KHR is much better though, in terms of likable characters and storyline.
Both have extreamly weak characters at the beggining of the show, but turn out to be badasses later on. Both have concept of being trained by "masters" who don't involve themselves much and are confident in the ability of their pupil. Both animes gather powerful allies to fight a gang/organization. Sub characters are also very enjoyable.
Hitman is very similar to Kenichi in the sense that there are "Masters" that dont get involved, and the character growth is similar as well. Also the surroundings are rather similar (Schools + area around the schools). On top of that, the character growth method is similar ~ Student gets trained by master, gets incredibly stronger each time.
Not much more to say that that but, You should definitely check out Hitman if you liked Kenichi, and vice versa.
Both Kenichi & hitman have similar feeling, School setting, master disciple relationships etc. Kenichi is eechier & focused more on martial arts <.<
-Both have the main character starting out as totally wimpy but throughout the series they get strong
-Enemies become friends
-Good Fights
-Both have the main character trained by more than one person, so a lot of masters
-Good humor for both of them too
It is both about the same because it's started off with weaklings, like no-good tsuna and kenichi. Then someone trained them and become very strong, undergo different type of trainings and experience some real-life fights and both of them are very kind at heart. They both liked a girl, and even though the characteristics of the girl is different but treated them about the same, in short, they are about the same and rocks~!!
Both feature two hero's that are hesitant to take their role and start off as cowardly but eventually build to become stronger characters.
Both feature a strong supporting cast of hero's and villains.
Both have very wise, humorous, and powerful teachers.
The protagonist must fight there way through each challenger.
Hitman features gang vs gang
Kenichi features martial arts group vs martial arts group
Both stories have an incredibly weak main character that becomes stronger throughout the story. Both characters have no friends and make them as they go. Both characters get stronger for the sake of their friends, and they have similar messages about doing what's right for the sake of others. Both have a lot of really good comedy and are a bit over the top at times.
Both are also adapted from manga series and only cover part, so I recommend reading both manga because the manga are actually a little better than the anime.
In both series, there are quite a lot of similarities:
The main male protagonist seems like a normal boy but is part of a family/organization that specializes in a dangerous profession/arts. They also seems to have a friendly relationship with a main female character from both series.
In both series, there is a lot of funny dialogues, action, drama, and other events that transforms the main male protagonist from a normal boy to a more reliable character through his development.
takes whinny boys, and turn them into heroes
have crazy teacher(s)
makes you want to root for the main charracter
Tsuna and Kenchi were weak at first but gradually they get stonger through their training and tutors.
