Story & Characters
At first glance Furuba is just another Shoujo manga with nothing different to it; the average, beautiful, kind girl getting all the pretty boys. Okay so it really is that, however there's a special touch to the way the series develops itself and how you watch each character grow and interact with each other as the story progresses.
The story starts with Tohru Honda, your as average-as-you-can-get japanese girl who has lost her mother in an accident and was living alone in a tent in the Sohma's property. Of course she wasn't aware of that until they told her, to her surpirse they take her in in exchange for her doing all the housework (it was her who suggested not staying in the house 'for free'). It's when she's there that she discovers the family's biggest secret... The family has been cursed by the vengeful spirits of the Chinese Zodiac animals and when they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex they transform into the animal they were cursed by. When Tohru comes in their life they all learn to open up their heart more and realize that not all the people in the worlds are bad; this girl affects each one of them in a unique way.
It's a beautiful Anime with heart-touching subjects, there is much you can learn from it and definitely worth buying if the chance should present. There is just about everything in this series:bishonen, angst, drama, comedy, romance, shounen-ai hints and a light-hearted, kind bishojo showing us the way.
The character designs are beautiful and would characterize everyone in the series a bishonen and bishojo. The colors of the hairs and eyes of the Sohma Family match with the animal they were cursed by and it gives each one of them a unique touch.
Tohru's design is supposed to be as average as possible since she represents a normal japanese girl.
There's is also a 'big abuse' of Super-Deformed characters (Ex. Chibi form) but it just serves to highlight the emotion they are expressing and make the show even more funny.
The music is simply beautiful, although the 26-episode long series only has one opening(For Fruits Basket) and one ending (Chiisana Inori) (both performed by Ritsuko Okazaki) it serves it's purpose leaving you with a serene calm sensation!
The soundtrack used as background music is delicate and simple
However if you haven't watched the series and just purchase the soundtrack for the sheer pleasure of it you will be disappointed since it is nothing special by itself, you must see the anime first so you can relate each short song to a scene.
As far as the seiyuu's gone they all seemed to fir their character perfectly. Tohru's voice was Yui Horie who also voiced for Love Hina's Narusegawa Naru. Her sweet, sharp voice goes in tune with Tohru's personality perfectly.
You won't find a boring episode in this series. Each one develops and focuses's on a character's situation. Although the series was cut short abruptly and much ends were left untied (the manga is still running) seeing by itself will leave you satisfied (if not with a small crave for the continuity of it).
As mentioned before there's much you can learn from this anime since it deals with how we must see our own beauty and not be jealous of other's (among other important themes).
Fruits Basket, my first anime, the beginning of my anime journey. This anime is equally dramatic, funny, and romantic! The concept of the show is very creative and fresh. The story and it's pacing is magnificent! The art is great for how old this show is. The sound and music were hilariously outstanding, with catchy background tunes, and laughable sound effects! The character development and cast of characters in general are awesome! I enjoyed this anime with my brother very much! Overall: 9 This one will always be dear and special to my heart! A must see for all anime newcomers and drama/comedy/romance/slice of life lovers! :) :D read more
[Disclaimer: I am Reviewing the English Dub. Also, there may be some spoilers along the way. You have been warned!!!]
“I don’t think anyone is born knowing the reason why they’re here it’s just something you have to find as you go along”- Honda Tohru (Fruits Basket)
At first glance, Fruits Basket may appear to be an anime catered specifically to girls, but when looked closely, it is obvious that it can be enjoyed by a much wider audience. Since Fruits Basket is a reverse-harem series with elements of fantasy thrown in, it is only natural to bracket it in the realm of Shoujo anime. However, that is not the case because Fruits Basket adds depth and originality to the generic world of reverse-harems.
The Story is about an orphan girl named Tohru Honda whose life changes after encountering two members of the Sohma family: Shigure and Yuki. Ooh and guess what else? Similar to other fantasy shows, there is a curse upon the Sohma family, which turns them into their designated horoscope animals when hugged by the opposite sex. Fruits Basket is a loveable anime that essentially centralizes around Tohru Honda as she gets deeply involved with the Sohma family.
One of the good parts of the story is the fact, that they introduced a character in each episode, many times for comedic value while also efficiently advancing the story. The fact that the story had like no plot at points really made this worth watching and when it did have plot or story telling was spot on.
The subtle Romance that is seen here and there can be hard to notice if you have not seen an romance anime before if you have then it will be easy to notice, The romance parts of the show are not “lovey dovey” like in most romance anime it’s just enough there to make you go, “awwwwwww that’s cute”.
There is a love triangle between Yuki, Kyo, and Tohru, and then there are side characters who just loves “Prince Yuki” as he is so lovingly named.
The one flaw I had for the story was that at times the emotions were lacking in terms of the situation. For example, instances where there should have been seriousness, there wasn’t, and vice-versa. Some things were just simplified or brushed over.
Pros: Unlike most anime of the Shoujo genre tend to do with the over dramatic scenes (that can often make you hate the characters because you often cannot relate to them in these situations) these were very few and far between.
The animation compliments the story beautifully. It complements the mood of the Anime very well. It is pretty light-hearted water color art (I think). Personally, I love anime done with water colors but it’s not for everyone and I realize it can be a turn off to some folks. Yet, when it needed to be dark, the dark art style/animation was done beautifuly and captured the mood accordingly.
Something to point out is that the people doing the background added a lot detail which was wonderful to see. The characters moved in the background scenes furthering the story even more, such as continued fight scene’s occurring as if you were really there.
The accompanying music/dialog of the show is great. The soundtracks played in this anime fit with ongoing situation while also enhancing the viewer’s the mood accordingly. There is no soundtrack in this anime that is misplaced or out-of-place and the opening is very fitting for it tells the story abstractly for what is happening throughout the entirety of the shows. As the show wraps up it does tend to feels a little out-of-place towards the end of the show but at a very minimal level.
The voice cast they have for doing the show is marvelous. Everyone played their roles successfully and they were enjoyable to listen to. Two of the primary characters, Yuki and Kyo were a perfect fit for the characters they played, whereas Yuki’s brother was over the top in such a successful way that only anime can do. It was obvious that the voice cast team was carefully considered.
Characters are always one of three things likeable or unlikable or worse--indifferent. Personally, Fruits Basket had mostly all likable characters to some extent. Each character has a different personality and if feels like they gave each character individuality.
One character that was thoroughly enjoyable and even a role-model to some point is, Tohru Honda. The Shoujo genre is filled with the “simpleton” archetype. However, Tohru (although not the brightest) is an incredibly kind-hearted soul who holds this show up. She is the epitome of a kindred soul who actively helps out everyone that enters her life and impacts them in a positive way. Even though her life has been filled with hardships after she became an orphan, she always has a smile on her face. That is rarely seen in Characters who have not had a good life.
Kyo Sohma is the typical Guy who gets teased and picked on a lot by the other cast members. Kyo is the a person who has a hard time expressing emotions and is more kept to himself. He also has an outrageous rivalry with the other primary male character, Yuki. Eventually he opens up as the story progresses and he becomes more of a normal Human (although that is not quite right). He becomes the fan favorite as the show progresses and later on we learn that his life was not all rainbows and butterfly It is darker than we thought.
Yuki Sohma is a stereo typical dude in many ways. He is smart and hot and everyone wants to be his girlfriend, and he is the kind of person the males inspire to be. Unlike many shows he is extremely protective of Tohru throughout the whole show (surprisingly so is Kyo). To the credit of the show all the characters are flawed by their curse but with the help of Tohru they find all begin to find their way.
Shigure is the typical pervert comedy relief character done right almost to a “T”. The one flaw I had with his character is that his perverseness is played at some really strange times in the show, but he can be very serious and very manipulative.
The anime does a good job in creating a realistic and appealing characters, they are not two dimensional.
This show introduces characters like Kyo, Momji, and Hatori early on, and they too are very good characters that Tohru of course helps. Most of the characters are blessed with good development. Few shows have the ability to juggle this many characters this effectively. There are even character that have episodes entitled to them that help to flush that character out and give you a greater look into the Sohma family. I have to admit that some of the characters, after they were introduced, soon had me in tears. I felt sorry for them. The writers made one care about each character and in a different way.
Admittedly, some characters like Yuki Sohma’s character development were very subtle and discreet. The changes crept up on you, much like real life. Most of his changes were psychological. Out of the main cast he is the one that is done subtle and not at all normal for the Shoujo genre.
As for the extra “kawaii stuff”, you will have to decide for yourself.
The Yuki Fan-Club Girls, love ‘em or hate ‘em, this is something that only you can decide. Personally I liked them at the end for they also helped with character development. They made you stop and actually look at all the changes that had occurred in Yuki.
Over all, the enjoyment level for me was a 9/10. I had an amazing time watching this show during both its good and bad times. I gave this show a “9” because of its witty comedy, awesome characters, and a story that was overall intertwined. It is must see show. The whole time I watched it, I was entranced, with that being said, I hope all of you will take the take time and watch this surprisingly brilliant anime and enjoy it as much as
So, this will be my first review of an anime, so please bear with my newbie-ish review. This review will be talking about my first ever anime series: FRUITS BASKET! Because I thought it would be appropriate for a first review. I haven't watched it in some time so i might get some facts wrong, also if you think the review was helpful/not helpful, then i want you to explain why so that i can get some constructive criticism.
Alrighty, so the story is pretty new and refreshing, its pretty different from any other anime that i have seen but I guess its nothing really special and exciting, but its still good. Long story short, it's about a girl named Tohru Honda who lives with 3 guys (No, its not what you think it is...damn pervert) who are cursed, this curse involves them turning into an animal of the Chinese zodiac every time they are hugged by a person of the opposite sex. You might think this Chinese zodiac thing is just an excuse to make funny moments and stuff, but I'll tell you this: things get pretty sad and tear-jerking down the road. Mark. My. Words.
OH MY GAWD! THE COLORS! For an anime that is 13 years old, it has some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen, don't forget the colors as well! I've seen over 50 anime series and this series' art is in my top 10.
This series OP and ED is probably something you'll never forget because its just so memorable. The OP will have you slowly swaying your head sideways and will make you try and sing along because it's just so fucking soothing. The ED is pretty goddamn relaxing, you could just listen to this outside when it's all sunny and just fall asleep like a baby.
Yep, every single character is different and I love it. Tohru Honda is the kindest and sweetest girl you will ever lay your eyes on, you thought you knew who the kindest anime girl was? Well i guess it's time to bring up a damn dictionary and look for the word "kind" or "sweet", Tohru Honda will has all of that and more! Yuki Sohma is maybe an exception to the whole "different characters" thing. I guess he's just your typical popular boy who could get a girlfriend faster than you can say "Forever Alone" but yet, he only has eyes for that one girl who doesn't really see him as a love interest and that makes every other girl mad. The only new thing with Yuki is that he turns into a dog every time a girl hugs him, oh and he sounds like a girl. Kyo Sohma is a guy with anger issues and a desire to be the strongest in the world. He hates Yuki more than anything and will do anything to beat him ever once. He's quite a mixed guy, he'll try to surprise you with a present and then he'll destroy the present because he thinks the present sucked, and then he'll take his rage out on Yuki. One little misstep and he'll be flying all over the room. These three are just the tip of the iceberg, I'd love to tell you about all of them but then this review will just be too long and stupid.
I've mentioned that this was my first anime series ever, so it definitely left a sweet taste inside my mouth. It's such a heart-warming story as it goes along and there are some pretty funny moments that had me laughing out loud like a psychopath at a hospital.
If you want some good ol' slice of life with a glass of comedy and a side dish of drama, then Fruits Basket is for you: the reader! Thank you so much for following me through my first review ever and remember to say your thoughts about my review, whether i kept rambling on about Yuki or how my jokes aren't funny, let me know!
Both anime center around a lovable girl who is surrounded by a bunch of bishies (hot guys). Both also has a lot of sweet and comedic moments that will tug at your heartstring and make you laugh out loud. All in all, both are great anime with a list of characters that you can't possibly hate.
Contains similar amount of cute, comedy, sugary sweet and sometimes even a taste of drama. Characters are all likable, without any significant villian, plus both are full of attractive guys, a huge eyed female protagonist, episodic events and most of all, a feel-good factor
It's a Comedy / High School / Love story that is touching funny and beautiful story that centers around the sad pasts of the characters. I highly Recommend Fruits Basket if you loved Ouran.
Both these anime are in a high school setting and are known as reverse harem (one girl amongst many guys). Each individual character have their own conflicts they must overcome. Hilarious funny moments as well.
Very similar characters and even the character design and personailities are very similar. Also it has that lighthearted atmosphere and then it has its sad tragic moments. Although in my opinion Fruits Basket has more tradgedy in it and made me cry, lol. I think both are extremley excellent anime's they are like twins or not so distant cousins. Fruits Basket made me cry out of sadness while Ouran made me cry out of laughter. Both anime's are very funny but Ouran has that one step more towards comedy and Fruits Basket one step towards the tragic. Both completley diffrent story lines!
These two shojos are the best of their genre. I'm not usually a shojo fan, but I had to sidestep and make a recommendation for them. If you like Ouran High School because of its "cuteness" especially the relationship between Tamaki and Haruhi (or even Haruhi and Kaoru), then you definitely like Fruits Basket because it has the same types interconnected relationships.
They both show a girl surrounded by a bunch of boys and trying to help. The characters are funny and the scenes hilarious. They both have their originality and quirk. If you liked Fruits Basket, there is no way you won't like Host Club!!
The most obvious is the use of the same voice actor (Japanese): Momiji = Honey. Ouran is actually a series that mocks a lot of stereotypes that male characters are put in, especially in shoujo series. While there are several references that can be drawn throughout the anime-verse, there are several than can be seen in Fruits Basket alone; and the Momiji-Honey connection is the most obvious, hence the use of the same VA. Not to mention both are hilarious in their own right with integrated moments of seriousness to show and advance plot.
Fruits Basket is also a sweet, cheery anime but with a very big dose of heart. Both anime have wonderfully endearing characters and are well written and very funny.
Both follow a lighthearted storyline with endearing and memorable characters and lots of humorous scenes.
Both anime feature an arena of guy characters that each separately fall squarely into one of the typical 'categories' of anime guy characters (appealing to people with different preferences), and they surround a female main character
The comic moments are very alike, biggest difference between them is that Ouran High school Host club doesn't have all the drama Furuba does.
Just like fruits basket, another girl gets sucked into a comical outragous adventure with boys... Watch as one girl goes from the commoner nerd to one of the Host Club boys... while trying to hide that she is a female.
Both of these anime have female main characters that are surrounded by guys. In each the main female is oblivious to love and has a one track mind. They are the same story each with its own twist.
Fruits Basket is another romance/comedy anime that has a lot of funny parts and interesting characters. I think that if you enjoy Ouran that Fruits Basket would be right up your alley as well.
Lots of cute boys of varying types inhabit both series, plus the main characters are both somewhat down-to-earth girls in odd situations.
Both are hilariously related with a reverse harem twist. One heroine surrounded by gorgeous bishounen! Not only that, they tell of a story wherein the heroine gives off an effect to each one of those gorgeous bishounen.
they DO have a storyline... they don't just go around in circles. That's why they're awesome to watch!
Both are romantic/comedy series' are set in highschool where a somewhat loner female character gets thrown into a strange situation with a group a guys.
Both of these Anime's are completely awsome and two of the best Anime's I've ever seen. They are both reverse harem full of comedy and romance that will make you laugh and sometimes cringe. Also Momiji and Honey are voiced by the same voice actor!
same kind of cute girl with crazy affectionate guys, but haruhi fujioka is a bit edgier than tohru honda
Both series are mostly-friendship-based reverse harem shoujo series catalyzed by an important and series-enduring secretive element that provides as much drama as humour for the series. As both progress, the potential for drama and tears becomes clearer the more the reader gets to know about the characters' families. Some romance, some cuteness, and it turns out the series may be more similar than they seem at first glance!
There are a lot of aspects which make both Furuba and Ouran similar. First of all, both feature reverse harem (one girl around a lot of guys). They are also romantic comedies. If you liked Fruits Basket but wanted a Tohru with a more realistic personality, you might enjoy Haruhi in Ouran. Likewise, if you thought Tamaki was a bit too oblivious and air-headed, you might Yuki in Fruits Basket. Fans of Kyo will adore Kaoru and Hikaru.
The story line is not very similat but they are both funny, and about a girl down on her luck. You will truley enjoy this anime. If you can't believe it the just watch the first ep and see for your self.
Both are high school animes. They are also both comedies that are base around the same general humor. The characters are all enjoyable and relatable. Both of these animes are humor based but have that serious element to them when the time calls for it.
Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club both are reverse harems that are mainly comedy, but have their serious side too.
The Humor and the vibe it gives off just feels so close and theres the unspoken love the hilarious moments and the fact that I ROFL for both is something.
have a similar feeling .. a girl come to a group of people life & change something in it .. both are romantic comedy ..
A LOT of the characters are really similar. For example, Hani likes to eat cake, sweet things, doesn't look his age, has blonde hair, is really cute, and has usa-chan. Momiji is possessed by the rabbit zodiac spirit, doesn't look his age, has blonde hair, likes sweet things, and is really cute. That's the most similar, but there are other things too! It's a reallly cute anime.
Both have a similar concept of one girl put in a situation of dealing with quirky guys. Both are very humorous with more serious undertones. Fruits Basket probably has more serious undertones, but both are good at balancing the serious moments with the very random and hilarious moments.
Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are two anime definitely worth watching. Aside from being similar in terms of being a reverse harem, both of these anime will surely keep you on your seat with their light-hearted comedy and romance.
Both have cute, but naive, girls who don't notice the boy around them likes them.
-bishonen (pretty boys)
tamaki = yuki (prince)
honey = momiji (lolito)
haruhi = tohru
1 female protagonist with bunch of bishounens around. But that's not all! You will also get some humorous moments, nice drawing/graphics and some more serious and dramatic moments in the end. If You feel like watching something funny, light but not stupid and completely lacking of seriousness You should watch these 2 series!
Both are about a girl who each lost their mother, but are still able to smile. They both meet weird boys, with many different secrets to tell.
Tohru Honda(Fruits Basket) is always talking to her mother in spirit, and Haruhi Fujioka(Ouran High School Host Club) is also always talking to her mother, just more in her mind and not aloud.
I think you you really enjoyed watching Ouran High School Host Club, then Fruits Basket is something you might want to try out. :)
Both are a kind of "reverse harem" thing, with the lead girl the object of many affections. Both stories are during the high school years, and are more focussed on ironic situations and causing the viewer to laugh as opposed to being serious or meaningful. Light, fun, and G.
They both have some very similar dynamics and I'm sure if you watch them you'll be able to connect similar characters together. They both have everything needed to make great shoujo comedy. (Ouran's better IMO)
For me, this recommendation was a bit obvious, but I'm going to go ahead, humor myself, and write this recommendation anyway.
The overall feel of Ouran and Fruits Basket are a bit different, but there are too many similarities between the two to leave them unchecked. Sure, the plot is a little different, and the situation, but, again, there were just too many similarities.
First is the characters. Tohru, the female protagonist of Fruits Basket, and Haruhi, the female protagonist of Ouran, both lost their moms at an early age. After living without their mom for years, they end up in a situation where they are surrounded by all men, almost all of the time. Tohru ends up in a house with men that change into animals while Haruhi ends up in a host club with men that change costumes every week.
Another character similarity. Momiji, from Fruits Basket, and Honey, from Ouran, are basically the same character, save for the fact that Honey doesn't turn into a bunny. Although, he does carry around a bunny stuffed animal constantly. Another difference is that Momiji doesn't have a character like Mori to act as his "elder", so to speak. Still if you liked one, you will like the other.
Other than characters, stories are a bit similar as well. Sure, Haruhi doesn't live with the males while Tohru does, but the way that they progress through the series gives way to see similarities. As the series progresses, however, the characters must face different types of challenges that define their characters differently.
Really, they are so similar, character wise, that it's scary, but the series do have their differences. I'm not saying that if you love one, you will love the other, but you will at least like the other. If you don't like one, I would avoid the other entirely.
I find them similar. both female characters have no mothers and they male leads in these animes do not realize there feelings toward the lead female charactes. PLus both are cute! ^.^
Both series are emotionally involved - Ouran because it relates and unrelates so much to everyday life, and Fruits Basket because it also relates (and, to a lesser extent, unrelates) to everyday life. Both series, however, focus on life from different angles, with Ouran taking a more "Life is for living, let's make the very best of it and have fun times all the time" stance and Fruits Basket taking a little more serious "Life is for living, so let's put some more meaning into our lives" stance. In addition, both were hit series in Japan when they were released - what more could you possibly want?
They both have a sort of similar feel to them. Even though Fruits Basket isn't completely realistic, there's a lot of eccentric and dramatic characters in both series. :) For example, Momiji (Fruits Basket) and Honey-Sempai (Host Club) are a lot alike. They're both very feminine and love cute things and sweets~ :D A lot of the host club characters sometimes remind me of Ayame, too. xD
All in all, these series are 2 of my favorites, so you should watch them~
Both shows seem to have a lot of similar comedy situations, a female lead, and just general atmospheric similarities.
these two have that same rom com thing going on. i also feel all the characters have been well written and have good back ground storys. These two are the ones i always tell people to watch if they want to start getting in to anime, they are also the only two animes i can watch with my family and everyone loves it lol.
Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club have the lead female being forced to stay with a group of men. They both have a high school setting. There are many character similarities: Momiji (FB) and Honey (OHSHC), Hatori (FB) and Kyouya (OHSHC), and Kyo (FB) and Hikaru (OHSHC), just to name a few.
Haruhi and Tohru are both kind girls who become close to boys at their schools due to a secret they have to keep. For Fruits Basket, its about the Zodiac curse, and for Ouran High School Host Club, its about Haruhi's gender.
Both involve a reverse harem. Both are extremely funny. There's a family-like atmoshere in both. Both have similar art.
Both are constructed around a nice family atmosphere. Both are reverse harems. Both are similarly animated.
The charcater of Hunni in Ouran is like a less complex version (and less annoyin) of Momiji from Fruist Basket.
Another story of a 'fragile but strong' main girl and her 'really pretty' male characters. Like Haruhi, Tohru Honda also likes to do the 'home service' and the boys protect her.
Both animes have such a great feel to them! They both make you laugh, as well as making you cry! However, Ouran does not have any 'Supernatural' elements included, but, there is a considerable amount of day-dreaming! I would strongly reccomend it!
When I started watching Ouran it reminded me entirely of Fruits Basket which I had watched just before this. Both are Shoujo with one girl and many men. All of the men have different, distinct personalities. There is a clear social (or familial) barrier between the girl and all of the guys. The girl is a positive influence on all of the men. Both of them have a light, whimsical feel at times relating to the comedy.
It is a reverse harem and it is also a comedy. It's fun and easygoing and is very enjoyable to watch. Highly recommended.
Both are reverse harems, relaxed, and humorous. Female protagonist that changes everything. You will love Tohru as much as Haruhi, or vice versa. Main characters from both anime have touching and sad pasts. Fruits Basket is as humorous and funny as Ouran; anybody who loves funny school life anime will definitely enjoy Fruits Basket or Ouran.
Both has nice and kind protagonist girl who is surrounted by funny male characters.
If you liked Fruits Baskets you'll be sure to like Ouran High School Host Club , they have a similar to feel to it, Ouran has a more fan service that will have rolling with laughter.
Both are romantic comedies and have a similar type of humour with many moments where you just can’t help but laugh out loud. Regarding story line, they both centre around a cute, sweet girl who due to different circumstances ends up being surrounded by many hot guys. Both of these animes are pretty hilarious and if you like some romance thrown in with a laugh I think you will love fruits basket and Ouran koukou host club to.
Both about a girl and a bunch of hot guys. VERY comedic and loveable.
Both Fruits Basket and Ouran Host Club take place in a high school setting, common threads are life in japan, humor and coming of age. The way in which the characters interact with one another is unique in its own right. The Ouran Host Club is funny with the similarities of fruits basket because both show comedy on the surface but it is the underlining stories that really makes both anime's a must see. Once you watch the Ouran Host club, you will be a new fan before your done watching the series and you will want to make this amazing anime part of your collection.
Both shows are very similar. They both have this lightheartedness about them with the comedy and the romance. Also they both develop into something more mature/serious.
Both animes have light hearted story lines, are reverse harems and take place in a high school setting. Both are of the rom/com genre.
Both are full of cute and hilarous moments which are sure to entertain.
If you like one you are sure to enjoy the other.
In both shows, our main female protagonist is in a sort of reverse harem, but without any explicit romance. Tohru and Haruhi are very perceptive characters, who sort of solve the problems and change the hearts of those they meet. Also, both shows are slice-of-life shojo, with plenty of comedy.
I also found these two to be similar in that some episodes I re-watched several times, while others were painful to watch just the first time around.
-Both are reverse harems
-Both have memorable characters
-Both are hilarious
-Both have some very sad moments in them
-Both are shoujo
A Girl That Has Lost Everything (Family And Home) And Has No Friends From The Beginning. Later She Finds A New Home With Special Beings. And I Guess Both Are Heart Warming Stories.
A high school girl becomes a deity and ends up interacting with demons. The protagonists in both stories have similar traits and a similar appearance. It also has a similar drawing style.
fruit basket is about a girl who moves in house with guys that change into zodiac animals but its quite similar to this in humor and romance and also how both leading guys have a need to watch over them and protect them from harm and both girls are cute but a lil naive to the things happening around them.
Who else agree's this gives off a fruits basket remake with tohru ending up with yuki instead? Fruba centres a girl who was "offered a home" by SEVERAL attractive boys with a dark secret of being zodiac animals. And like Nanami, she becomes involved, responsible, in a way she doesn't understand the dangers she's in.
While not entirely alike, both series has a lighthearted atmosphere in which the main female protagonist becomes acquainted with characters with supernatural abilities.
Both series also features two popular guys at school.
Both series has some action, drama, lighthearted comedy, and also romance themes involving specifically the main female protagonist and her new life.
Also about a homeless girl encountering some mythical beings. The atmosphere is very similar - sweet, bubbly and warm. The difference is, Nanami is more likable than Tohru in the sense that she isn't as 'stupid'.
both involve a young innocent girl loosing her home with nowhere else to go. The girls Tohru Honda and Nanami Momozono even look and act similar, but with nanami being a bit more out spoken. Similar characters like kyo and Tomoe care deeply for the main girl, bit have odd abrasive ways of showing it. All the boys in both shows have animials that correspond with them in a fantasy type of way. for Fruits basket it is with the zodiac and for Kamisama it is they are land gods. They have very similar romance stories focusing on one girl surrounded by interesting hot men. If you like one then you are likely to like the other! xoxo
Both of these series are reverse harem (male harem). The girl—Nanami in Kamisama H. and Tohru in Fruits Basket—has lost everything—family and home. They both have a chance to live with guys. Tohru is staying at Sohma's house with three guys. Nanami meets man who offers her a place to stay and she ends up living at the shrine with a guy. Both of them fall in love with cold-type guy who open their hearts to them.
Both anime are really cute and beautiful. There is no ecchi or soap opera.
they both are a romatic comedy where the boy wont admit his feelings. in both a girl has come to live with the boy because they lost their home.
Both series include a girl that has lost everything - home and family. She gets offered to live in a place but turns out the place is owned by an animal-related person. In Kamisama Hajimemashita, it involves a dog-like demon, a snake demon and various other animals. In Fruits Basket, it involves the 12 animals of the zodiac. Both very funny <3
I thought both these series were really funny with cute and likable characters! The romance in both series is really cute in my opinion and they both have fantasy elements which give a little twist to the typical shoujo :)
Fruits Basket and Kamisama kiss both have a deep story that is enlightened with humor, romance, and fantasy. If you have enjoyed Kamisama Kiss, Fruits Basket is a must-watch!
- Share a similar feel
- Hilarious romance
- Unique fantasy/Magic
The Anime's characters are quite similar in their personalities and thoughts. The fact is that there is also a fantasy component making the anime's interesting. The differences between them is basically the characters actions or changes in a situation.
Both of the main characters are extremely optimistic people.
Both series contain some romance.
Both series are somewhat funny slice-of-life anime with drama sprinkled around.
Both have some fantasy elements with them.
Similar naive and happy-go-lucky heroines that are Goody two shoes and only think in other´s well being.
Slice of life moments of the heroines daily lives helping/healing people around them.
Drama and Romance involving main characters and supporting characters too.
Both also have supernatural elements: cursed people who transform into animals and for a similar reason: one of them (the dog in kobato, the cat in Furuba) angered God and for that all of them were punished.
Both main characters, Kobato and Tohru, are very optimistic and have sweet hearts. They seem to be able to cheer up everyone around and both want to be helpful.
kobato is similar to tohru but a bit more stubborn
the feeling is similar
has some level of tragedy in both animes
all of them are lovable characters
the romance is cute
both female protagonists HEALS a persons heart (scars?) in a way
Fruits Basket has a secret type feel. In the manga Toru wants to break the Soma curse. Fruits Basket is cute and the main character is ditzy and clumsy just like Kobato.
The main characters in both the anime are very similar in that they appear to be slightly dumb, but really, they are very sweet and have the most incredibly positive spirit. On top of that, the overall heart-warming feeling you get from watching Fruits Basket is the same feeling you get from watching Kobato.
Kobato and Fruits Basket both have lovable, overly-polite female protagonists that have a strong desire to help those around them. These protagonists really make these animes some of the best of the shoujo genre.
Both their stories are driven by their own unique concept of magic.
Both have magic and romance, plus both are great and lively. Both series will leave you wanting more, more, more great anime/manga!
Both have vague romance that's still there and they both have optimistic main characters who's fought over by certain boys who're close and they both contain fantasy elements.
Both of the main heroines have a very naive out look on life and a very positive can't be brought down to the dumps.
There is a love triangle between an air-headed character and two guys with powers. There is that hint of a deeper conflict between it all but mainly keeps the light tone. If you liked Fruits Basket I'm pretty sure you would love Gakuen Alice.
If u like fruits basket, then u cannot resist gakuen alice..at first i thought gakuen alice juz a kids anime but the way they create the stories bout diffrent alices n the relationship between frenz is really amazing....it is also heart warming storie where u can watch nonstop (as i did)...in my opinion, the main guys character (natsume) resembles kyo somehow...u will surely like this anime if u like sweet anime like fruits basket....
Magic, romance, and drama. Both series starts out with a plain heroine who enters a realm of fantasy she never imagined before. As the episodes progresses, the main heroine befriends others and even finds romance with the main protagonist. Both series also has a lot of comedy mixed with some emotions.
The characters in VK and Fruits Basket seem similar.
Both Tohru and Yuuki start out innocent to what's really going on around them, but as the storyline unfolds, both are determined to do whatever they can to help with the situation. (Both characters also have the same voice actor.)
Also, Kyo and Zero both have the anti-social, trying to be a tough guy and deal with my problems all by myself thing going on.
Now before you call me crazy just follow along...
The three main characters in this anime are pretty much identical to the three main characters in Vampire Knight with even the same dynamics.
Kyo = Zero
Sohma Yuki = Kuran/clan Kaname
Honda Tohru = Yuki
Kyo/Zero is kind of the outcast with a dark secret
Sohma Yuki/ Kaname-sama is the popular handsome character
Tohru/Yuki is the main optimistic girl who goes to incredible lengths and through a lot of adversity and is the center of the love triangle.
Seriously Vampire Knight = Fruits Basket with Vampires... its a great idea and works well but the parallels are very obvious if you look at them.
Both Vampire Knight and Fruits Basket revolve around a girl keeping an important secret. Each are reverse harem, and some of the characters are similar.
-bishounen (pretty boys)
yuki = kaname (prince)
kyo = zero
tohru = yuuki
- love triangle YUKI-TOHRU-KYO = triangle KANAME-YUUKI-ZERO
Even though Fruits Basket has a lot more "funny moments", two series are similar due to female protagonist, love triangle and characters with tragic pasts.
Both are supernatural with a love triangle.
It isn't that much similar to Fruits Basket, but the main characters in Clannad remind me of the characters in Fruits Basket.
Nagisa in clannad and Tohru in fruits basket are incredibly similar. They're both sweet, naive, and caring. The main guys in both animes have a dark past that haunts them and in order to overcome it, the need someone to accept them. They're both really funny too.
Fruits Basket is also sad, but touching, there are numerous humorous moments which brings the characters together to come to become friends.
Clannad and Fruits Basket go hand and hand with many similarities. When I watched both, it definitely reminded me of one and the other. Let's break this down, shall we?
First, both series are lighthearted and contains supernatural themes. The main female protagonist is a kind young girl who doesn't want to hurt those around her. She later meets other characters who she forms valuable bonds with.
Secondly, series have a lot of drama and comedy (more so in Clannad). They also have their touching moments.
Third, both series takes place a school setting and focuses on other characters at times although the key relationship involves the main girl in both titles. They enjoy life and helping others while valuing their own experiences.
Both series of course has a touch of romance in it that is later explored in their works.
Both anime are very romantic, some of the scenes from Clannad will make you cry. Both are good anime and they are similar in a way that the stories involve two people falling love and both have other similarities as well.
I'm not quite sure why Clannad reminded me so much of this anime. I guess it's just because of the friendship aspect and the kind of ditsy female as one of the main characters that is trying her best to live life to the fullest. The stories are pretty different in where they end up going and Clannad is known as one of the saddest anime(but don't strike it down, you may be surprised) but it is also an amazing one to watch.
