You were born the day after me, tho definitely NOT the same year, lol.
By chance, are you a 'military brat'? Asking b/c of the locations you have lived and you live in GA which is the home to four major bases.
Here are some recommendations:
Hoshi no Koe
Fate Zero
Fate Zero 2nd Season
Fate/Stay Night
You can't go wrong w/ the Fate franchise except for Fate Apocrypha which in imho was an abysmal mess.
Angel Beats!
So Ra No Wo To
Haibane Renmei
Xam'd: Lost Memories

If you are willing to take a chance, I have one more. Warning: Boob jiggles abound. I am also assuming you are over 18, if not disregard. No, it is not hentai. Don't watch it then hate if for the obvious. Watch it for the story that is hidden underneath the fluff...and for the zombies too!
HotD

These are a few of my favorites. Like not like, watch not watch it is up to you to decide. I see other members have given you many great titles that they have enjoyed. That's what I like about anime and mal, people want to share what they like with others. I have tons more if you want. I am a sucker for a good romance. Enjoy!

mmm, I noticed you don't have 3gatsu no lion and barakamon? Those are two of my favs I think, a little melancholy but still funny. Also one piece I count as slice of life since it has taken an actual slice of my life to watch all the episodes. Just kidding. Or spice and wolf is an older one, nodame cantabile, and anhona is a super feels anime. Watamote is also pretty cute, a little me irl for middle school.

lol rip the person below with the recommendation gone wrong.

It is great when animation takes advantage of that fact that it is, in fact, animation and can pretty fluidly mix in some surreal imagery. Even with things like Aoi's driving, or that epic scene with the director - you know the one. Agreed on the director too, he is an excellent character. Passionate, principled, indecisive - perfect for his position and role in the story, and a great counterpart for Aoi.

Hanasaku Iroha is a good choice - it's probably *the* most similar show to Shirobako out that exists. P.A. Works used it and Shirobako together to help advertise later series they did - they do have several more in this vein, but Shirobako and Hanasaku Iroha are by far the best they've done. Hmm... it's been a while since I've rewatched either of them. I should change that. Well, regardless, have fun with it!

And yeah, I love nothing more than blathering on about anime I really like, so you won't get concise recommendations from me and I'm always happy to do so.

Nice! Glad you liked it - it's definitely a personal favorite of mine, and I freakin' love Aoi. Anyway, yeah, more along that thread. I'll try to hit some that cross into other genres, but have some similar themes to Shirobako.

Snow White with the Red Hair - Has more of a fairy tale motif as the title suggests. There's less focus on her work experiences and moves more towards a romance story as it progresses. I mostly liked this one just because Shirayuki is awesome, but it also features this great, healthy romantic relationship. https://myanimelist.net/anime/30123/Akagami_no_Shirayuki-hime

Hanasaku Iroha - Same studio as Shirobako. Ohana is possibly my favorite character of all time - she's something like a more aggressive Aoi. It's a little more high school, there are more random hot springs scenes, and it skews a little further to the drama end of the scale than Shirobako. It does also get a bit into that same sort of behind-the-scenes stuff, this one about hot spring inn/family-owned business management. https://myanimelist.net/anime/9289/Hanasaku_Iroha

Aria - This is a decent bridge between shows like Shirobako and the "iyashikei" genre, though it doesn't really get very Shirobako-like until pretty near the end. "Iyashikei" I believe means "healing", and shows in the genre are largely about calm, relaxation, and just general positive vibes. It's not for everyone, but if you like it, there's more in *that* genre I can throw out later. It is a 52 episode series between its three seasons, and it gets stronger as it goes on, but if you don't like it at episode 2, you can drop it there. https://myanimelist.net/anime/477/Aria_The_Animation

New Game - This is a tough recommendation. On the one hand, it is basically Shirobako but for game development, with most of the good things that go with that association - work environment, strong main characters, behind-the-scenes coolness, running story. On the other hand, there is an unfortunate amount of focus on fanservice and cutesy background girls. It's not a *large* part of the show, but it is still significant presence. If you're up for gambling on whether this crosses your threshold for fanservice tolerance, there's a lot of good substance here, but I totally understand if you'd take a pass on it. https://myanimelist.net/anime/31953/New_Game

Keep me posted on how they treat you - always happy to throw more suggestions your way. Ton of good anime out there.

Lol, you're not wrong. Great to find someone with good taste in music.

Haha, in my defense, I did watch all of these titles back when I was still a High School/ University student with no job to worry about, nowadays I usually watch like 1/2 anime a month :D Out of the titles I've mentioned, I'd go for Full Metal Panic first - it's a School comedy (for the first season, at least) with Military and Mecha elements to it, with a little bit of Romance. Really well written story (plus there's an OVA titled Fumoffu which is a pure comedy and it's hilarious, mostly because it doesn't rely on the typical unfunny Japanese humour based around wordplays only native speakers can understand, and even then, it's not really that funny) with some pretty cool main characters. I actually like the fact that you tend to watch everything - you can't say you dislike something if you won't try it out first anyway :D Hell, I'm not a sports person, but some of the Sport anime are actually fantastic, like Eyeshield 21 or Slam Dunk. You know, there's this Slice of Life element to them, along with challenges to overcome, which don't involve sealing a pact with some Valkyrie girlfriend the generic protagonist found in his garbage one evening, which gave him super powers and made every female character fall for him for no reason. Bottom line, never kiss a person you find in your garbage. Especially if it's an anime girl. In all honesty, the only genre I'm always sceptical about is Psychological - it's like most of the titles marked with this genre on MAL usually get cathegorized as a Psychological show because there's something a little bit unusual about them.

No harm, no foul.

If you like Shirobako and want more, hit me up. There's a lot of good stuff kinda in that vein that all have their own unique charms.

I'm guessing you grabbed me off my review for Ancient Magus' Bride - I see we had a similar reaction to it.

Anyway, it seems like we have pretty different tastes in anime (at least based on what you've seen so far) so making recommendations is tough.

My blanket recommendation that I would make to literally anyone is Shirobako. It passes your three criteria of what you don't want to watch: 24 episodes, the main characters are primarily "cute girls" but it's definitely not just about them being cute, no fanservice that I can remember. It's basically a workplace comedy/drama about people who work in the anime industry - hilarious, fantastic characters, pretty cool behind-the-scenes sort of deal.

Haha, considering the size of my list, if the site's algorithm takes the anime we both saw into consideration, I'd probably have a good score with everyone. *laughs* Still, given that scores you give to your anime matter too, and judging from your favourites as well, I'd say that we do indeed like similar stuff. So, any particular genre you're into? If you don't mind giant robots (I'm a huge fan of those myself), I'd totally recommend Giant Robo and The Big O, it's always a solid alternative from Evangelion, as far as smarter Mecha anime go. There's also Full Metal Panic and Martian Successor Nadesico, Osomatsu-san, Guyver, Casshern: Sins, old Devilman OVAs.. the last goes on, but we'll get there eventually :)
Oh, and thanks a lot for actually paying attention to what I wrote on my profile, I still keep getting random friend requests from kiddies here at times.

I mean I can try, but I have no idea if you will like them.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/24765/Gakkougurashi Go in blind.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/6594/Katanagatari?q=katanagatari Story about collecting swords that makes fun of shounens.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/33502/Shuumatsu_Nani_Shitemasu_ka_Isogashii_desu_ka_Sukutte_Moratte_Ii_desu_ka Military Slice of Life stuff. Has some action too, but honestly, I find it hard to describe without spoiling stuff.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/34599/Made_in_Abyss Really nice adventure anime. Get past some of the "fanservice" and it is really special.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/14131/Girls_und_Panzer GIRLS AND TANKS OH MY

Hope one ends up being enjoyable

Yup Yup. All is right in the world thanks to people viewing things differently. If we all viewed stuff the same it would be boring.
Calal-Chan Apr 17, 2018 7:57 PM
Yeah, I can see why some people wouldn't like Chise. She is a very make or break character. Since I suffered from some depression when I was in high school at 15 which is how old she is I could easily connect.

Also if you like Elias' character a ton what you said below might actually break his character writing-wise. Sorry about not saying much in this response.

Calal-Chan Apr 17, 2018 6:49 PM
Warning tangent from crazed fan ahead LOL Thank you for being reasonable btw. Most people who dislike this show just call it creepy and that is that.

See for me then it would have been pretty much any other fantasy princess romance type thing. Which I think has been done so many times and probably better than this writer could have done. To me watching an adult creature who is super selfish and clearly has the mind of a child buy a slave girl and ask her to marry him without understanding anything emotion wise is pretty interesting in my eyes.

Also for the not realizing the feelings were romantic. I mean the source material is going to keep going and you can see him slowly growing more and more attached to her in other ways. He gets jealous when he sees Chise from a friendship with someone else. When he sees her "die" he gets enraged and all his emotions are let loose. The thing is he feels emotions but doesn't understand them. Such as feeling lonely when she is gone.

I would also like to point out in the first episode he calls her a puppy undresses her and puts her in the bath not even realizing how much he was in her personal space and really getting to close. At this point in the show, we can summarize he is aloof of how humans actually feel as he is treating her like a dog rather than a human. It poses an interesting element of how we treat our pets as well. Some people treat them like toys rather than real living creatures.

Okay sorry for my tangent. My word I kind of just rambled. I hope you might have at least got something out of it though XD

"How does a young woman end up being the bride to beast-skull-man-mage?! "

Also just wanted to point out that I think Elias didn't/doesn't understand the word bride. And even by the end, I don't think he really understands what it means. Imo the way he views bride is being close to someone and not in a romantical way. Anyway I know I am a crazed fanboy so I hope I didn't sound rude.
