No need to thank me.

I do definitely recommend 86, at least the anime adaptation by A-1. The light novels are very heavy-handed, which the series does a good job of minimizing but still retaining the overall message and whatnot.

And I'm glad that you've gotten your interest piqued by AniList! Like I said, it's definitely far more user-friendly and it allows more opportunity for commentary, camaraderie, etc. If you do end up making the "conversation" over there, let me know! It even has a function that allows you to copy your MAL list onto it, so you don't need to re-input everything.

And yes, music is definitely one of the universal arts, even if we are not necessarily the most-adept at performing it ourselves. I'd be willing to bet that your ability to keep a steady beat is one that is actually more solid than you'd expect, but that's it's been under-nourished or under-developed. We all have, on some level, an inherent musical sense - it just comes down to finding out how to best go about exploring it.

As far as the most rewarding work I've done? Without any doubt, teaching college students. The course I teach is entirely centered around trying to understand how we perceive, talk about, reconcile, and explore music. We touch upon what music's "function" is supposed to be, music and controversy, music and identity, how to discuss music without words, etc. I challenge my students by breaking or destabilizing a lot of their preconceived notions about what music is and shows that both it AND their own aesthetic sensibilities are more sensitive, curious, and all-encompassing than they themselves originally thought possible. I teach them a little bit of everything - Gregorian chant, blues, rap, opera, popular culture, etc. They all are tools to better understand our world and ourselves.

Since many of the assignments I give are open-ended and are meant to be highly-personalized, I read a wide array of interpretations and perceptions. I get introduced to music by my own students that I've never heard of, or only had a passing interest in. So when they take the time to share something they care about, I listen to it and respond in kind. It's only fair, right?

Nice reviews.

Haha, no problem! I tend to be on AniList far more frequently than MAL as is. Friendlier community, better interface, etc.

I do have the channel listed on my profile, along with a couple of videos I've done. If you want a more direct link, I can provide that here as well (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZf0nu4VrECX87DdLrLvvnA). And yes, the conversational / more-casual approach is more...well, approachable XD

Thank you for accepting my friend request!
I remembered our brief exchange from last month and I figured that I would like to chat more about anime with you. So...yeah, there you go! :P

Haha, yes. Folken was a wonderfully-mysterious character, and a good foil for Van throughout the story. His design also rocks! And that's an awesome story you shared! Does this mean we can expect a Guymelef or Escaflowne cosplay in the future from you? Lol.

Truth be told, "Tenkuu no Escaflowne" doesn't get nearly enough love. Especially since it functioned as a proto-isekai, it didn't fall into nearly so many of the power fantasy trappings that the genre tends to fall into with writers that aren't quite as deft. Hitomi jumping across the chasm is still one of the highlights of that entire series for me, a moment of great exhilaration both visually and with Kanno Yoko's music helping.

Thank you for your compliment on my reviewing framework. Back when I still wrote for my high school newspaper and in college, my approach to writing was needlessly combative and sure of itself, as though my sole opinion mattered compared to everyone else's. In time, I grew out of that, so my writing tries to be more approachable (both in terms of its brashness and its overall warmth) without doing a disservice to the ideas I'm presenting. The reviews I post on my YT channel have the benefit of narration, which I think better encapsulates what I mean in this respect (which includes an "Escaflowne" review, actually!) After all, tone of voice is something that can be difficult to parse in text.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you for your kind words after my "Summertime Render" post! That definitely brought a smile to my face :)

Also, having Dilandau in your favorite characters list? The "Tenkuu no Escaflowne" fan in me is so happy to see that!

Thank you for your kind response!
The Digimon Tri movies have been a bit of a disappointment so far, I'm not too keen on the last one. :(

Too few people give this anime a chance... I even know someone that calls this anime "gay" because the main characters are not like your regular and generic characters from the populair anime >:(
The music is godly and fits so well to the series <3 and Hubb is a great man indeed. I wish more guys were like that :)

Oh, and from what anime is that rooster? It looks so detailed :)

Well heres the thing, I know this guy who works at the military who can really make that chicken look better. He's an old man but trust me, he knows how to dress his chickens.
