I haven’t begun watching any sequels (*ahem* AoT) because I don’t like to watch something I’d probably like, weekly. For everything else:
Horimiya: Does the opposite of most anime romances and speedruns through the "boring" romance parts to get to the good ones. But those good parts doesn’t have much of an impact since there wasn’t any time to yearn for it. It’s like suddenly getting your birthday presents a whole month before it’s your birthday. At least the relationship goes somewhere, but I think it’s gonna get stale soon. [5/10]
Mushoku Tensei: I’m not fully sure if I would call Rudeus a bad character. I think it’s still a bit early for me to have a clear answer on that. But he is a bad person no doubt. Not the worst guy around, he has some decency. But the despicable things he does makes it hard to sympathise with him. If someone does then that’s not a person I would want to be around. All male characters are pretty shitty personality-wise now that you mention it. Still, the visuals are great. I Like that they build up these characters since childhood. Music is amazing too and the sound design is some solid stuff. It’s a shame that the script has some sour moments, and of course Rudeus being himself. But I got to admit that I prefer him over a bland piece of nothing main character who has no personality to speak of. Then I would’ve dropped this pretty early on. Still doesn’t mean I would’ve liked him to be just who he is. [5/10]
Wonder Egg Priority: Good direction, good cinematography, great visuals, nice concept, fun characters and it probably has still more to give. I especially like so far that they use visual storytelling instead of hammering us with exposition. It treats you less like an idiot and wants you to connect the dots for yourself. Love that, excited to see more. [7/10]
Kemono Jihen: Lost what little intrigue I had from the first episode after the second one. Didn’t have much to give that other’s shows hadn’t already given in higher quality. [4/10]
Sk8: Bones are behind it. Comedy is very much in their style. The animation is what we’ve come to expect from them, meaning good. Have only seen the first episode, but it seems like a fun one. [?/10]
Urasekai Picnic: Extremely character driven. Enchanting atmosphere. Visuals are pretty meh. The characters are forgettable. Has some cool ideas but not a show I find particularly noteworthy overall. [5/10]
Redo of Healer: You thought Rudeus was bad? Keyaru beg to differ. He has understandable motivations but this show really is just romanticisation of revenge + revenge/torture porn. The most edgy thing I’ve seen in a long, long time. [1/10]
Ex-Arm: One of the worst put together shows I’ve ever seen. I’m not surprised as to why that is after watching that video. But why not just quit airing it? The reason being me because I enjoy this show, it’s funnier than most comedies. [1/10]
Lucky for me that I went with the manga of Promised Neverland and didn't bother with the anime. I can understand the pain the anime-only watchers have though. They butchered the shit out of the source material. Cloverworks put all their effort into WEP instead. It's the law of equivalent exchange on full display.
Nice to hear that you’re enjoying Shigofumi. It’s been awhile since I saw it, so my memories are a bit fuzzy. I guess Ayase felt cornered when Fumika confronted her while Shouta was there. He had heard from Fumika that Ayase possibly murdered her own father which could've been used as evidence against her. I’m not entirely sure on all the details though. But I think that’s a possible explanation.
I don’t remember exactly when I watched it, but I remember loving it. It was so nice to see a show that didn’t rely on melodrama to make you invested. Shigofumi had great directing instead. They tackled heavy subjects but not in a way that makes it overbearing or belittling. It’s just told maturely and in a respectful way. Especially compared to many others. A surprisingly good pacing too for a mostly episodic show. It never felt that they rushed through something in my eyes. All in all a really good show. Speaking of good shows...What do you think of this season? I’ve found it to be a mixed bag overall. There’s some real stinkers airing right now called Ex-Art and Redo of Misogyny. You might've heard of them. I’ve only seen one episode of WEP so far but it seems really good. Mushoku Tensei is enjoyable but does have some off-putting things that stain it.
And don’t worry about taking a while to get back. I’m not better.
I found some of the mask guys relatively fun to watch. The justice mask guy is a good example, or the student one. I’d rather watch more of them than the main characters. I agree that the constant panty shots were a bit annoying. They definitely focused on making the leads thicc since that’s the only meat to their otherwise bare-bones character. I especially didn’t like the main villain they introduced later. He’s such a boring overdone character. In every death game show where they fight to become a god (which it is at least 90% of the time) there’s always that one villain character with a god complex. He wasn’t even threatening, just some random douche. To be fair there weren't a lot of threatening things in this show, let alone scary. It advertises itself as a survival horror yet can barely be called as such. It's survival in the same way as something like Boku No Hero Academia, and it’s too light-hearted and silly to be scary. Most of the mystery surrounding the setting is explained early on so we know how this place works from the get go. So it doesn’t have much going for it there either. In other words it’s more of a comedy at heart like you said. An action-comedy with some thriller elements sprinkled in. But the fights are garbage and the jokes are more misses than hits in my opinion. I did enjoy some of it’s silly moments like the guys with a shield randomly dancing or the pitcher throwing cannonballs. But overall I thought it was a waste of time.
I’ve just further explained my disliking for the show, but it seems like we agree on most things. I think it’s nice to have discussions like these. Even if it’s about something like Tenkuu Shinpan.
Also, I see that you've started watching Shigofumi. Have any thoughts about it so far?
When i first watched the first 2 Episodes, i really thought, this Anime could be something special.
Yea, my ratings are a bit more critical than the average user, in all honesty, but it doesn’t mean I don’t try to find enjoyment or something positive in every show I watch. Of course a good number of the scores are understandably biased due to me particularly enjoying a certain show a lot.
Index 3 was such a letdown after waiting all those years.
