No, the 'fiend' was never shown killing queerrats, but it was more than implied in the story that she did. That is where the incosistency lies. Thanks for reminding me of the detail about the attempt to get her to see she was human did not work. But, the death reaction should have taken place when she killed her own kind rather than the incident with Kiroumaru late in the story. This is why I could not give it a high rating.

You missed touching on the most outrageous error in Shinsekai Yori. The "fiend" uses her Cantus to kill thousands of queerrats even though she thinks she is a queerrat without the reaction she should have had. Then, she discovers she is human and when she kills a human, she reacts and dies. That was a huge error in this story and why I gave it a 7 instead of a higher rating. The inconsistencies were minor except for that. This could have been a great story, but, as usual, the modern anime staff are more interested in profit than in telling a well developed story. Thanks for your review.

Shinsekai Yori may have felt a bit confusing for you since they don't do a lot of explaining, BUT they do drop a lot of hints, and I mean a lot. Otherwise, good review.
