If so that will be great ^^

What anime(s) are you expecting most from on this season? :3
Are you the type to only watch anime once or do you not mind rewatching a anime more than once? :3

The first arc wasn't good, it was too fast paced, too much death not enough time to appreciate the character before they die.
The second arc however (volume 2-3) was far better. Since it was 2 volumes long it gave far more chance to the author to make us appreciate the characters (and as a result some characters really become likeable), and the story in itself was better too, the tension in the 3rd volume in particular was really something. They're probably going to adapt volume 1-3 in the anime, which means that the beginning will probably be meh, but the end should be quite intense. Although I'm a bit doubtful about the anime version. There's a lot of important "inner thoughts" from several characters involved in making it that entertaining. Also, it's very bloody, too.

I was really surprised to see it getting an anime.

Well there'sa lot of fantasy LN too, although I cannot compare with the proportion in VN. WHat is sure is that as one of my favorite genre, i don't have that much problems to find new good ones on that genre in LN.

Well the problem is, the time. As I said I still have 70 volumes of LN, + there's manga I need to finish because I left them somewhere in between for a while, and so on. VN are kinda long to play as you said. And they often have several routes too. I already play western RPG on PC regularly, which takes a lot of time, so VN don't really have any place right now.

Sure, just listing the volumes remaining right now , there's Zaregoto 1 to 9, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu 1 to 10, Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku 4 to 8, Tenkyou no Alderamin 2 to 7, Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria 2 to 7, bungaku shoujo vol 10 to 16, Tokutou Tenjouin Alpha no Nanjiken 2 to 5, Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta 3 to 5, Yuusha-sama no Oshishou-sama 4, Gekitotsu no Hexennacht 1, Zetsushinkai no Solaris 2, All You Need Is Kill, Koyasai, Washio Sumi wa Yuusha de Aru, Murasakiiro no Qualia, Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? vol 1 to 3 , Tantei no Tantei, boku ga nana fushigi ni natta wake, ningyoutsukai, Villains Tail 1, B.A.D. Chocolate Days 4, and... That should be most of them.

One per month is super fast. If it's only taking one year and half, that's even very impressive.
I wouldn't say I enjoy harem, just that harem with proper development are very bearable, especially compared to the one without x). I wouldn't read a story for its harem component, but if the harem component doesn't keep annoying me during the read, I don't mind it being there.

So yes, trying MT could be a possibility afterwards (I still have around 70 volumes to read so... I'm not in need of a new series right now though^^) so I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

I never had the time to read any VN, unfortunately ^^".
Zefyris Sep 17, 2015 2:35 PM
I don't know really. The fact that the various romances aren't stalling each other like often in a harem is definitely a good thing. The rare enjoyable harem are usually those types. I heavily dislike when the author have each character cock block others (especially with stuff like mobile phone ringing and the like, tssk) that's really poor writing and so cheap it's highly annoying imo.

Also, another reason which makes me not really turn my attention toward MT right now. Afaik, it's 22 books longs, but the LN version is like at 5-7 volumes published. MEaning, it will ba a long wait before finishing, so I have the time before starting it (since I don't intend to read the WN version if I try it).
IIRC I heard that both versions are very very different after a few volumes though. OR was that another WN series...

Those are modern war tactics, with uses of very clever troops movement, as we saw during the 20th century. The most well known would be blitzkrieg obviously, which is done with a group of flying mages here rather than tank (the technology is simmilar to the 2nd world war, except that they have flying mages, which are elite troops that could be considered similar to tanks in importance ( although their good and bad points or different obviously) It takes in account lost of things, including supplying and the necessary road, troops used for it and so on. It basically takes the modern strategies and cleverly add the mages (which is a "new" technology in countries, they weren't there the last time they had a big war) to it.

Yes, it's basically germany without the Nazi ideology. They are surounded by several super powers, and are considered more powerful military wise than any of them, but the problem is that they are surrounded. As such, the main topic before the war in germany was "how to organise the troops to resist a war on several side" and that was also the highest fear. The surrounding countries were extremely wary of germany's rising military power and made alliance, isolating it military-wise. To spoil a little to show the general flow of the story (without entering any details )

There are character here and there who really existed, sometimes with the same name or a variation, like the young general De Lugau for De Gaule, or the general Rommel (same name).

Well yes, the difference is that the MC in MTensei is wishing to correct his previous life mistake by doing better. Whereas the MC in youjo Senki doesn't regret anything, and isn't happy about being reincarnated. Especially not in a little girl with a lisping voice. He feels irritated about his own size, his own voice, and his sex change as he was proud to be an alpha male in society. Youjo senki's MC is simply doing his best once again to rise in rank and achieve a satisfying position in the military (only path he can take because he has magical talent).
So yes, both are currently "hardworking and objective-orientated" but the motivations, goal and mental states are completely opposite.

YEs, that's an opposition here. In YS, without the MC there would be no interest i nthe story, he/she's everything in the story or almost. That's theexact contrary of a title like KyouHora of BAccano for example,w here ther eis no real MC and a massive amount of characters gets developped instead. I'd say both type have their own strong point.

I don't know really for the harem part. All the harem LN that I heard were good 'contrary to other harem" were actually quite bad. Hikaru from bungaku shoujo's author was supposed to top them all and that was the worse of them imo >_<.
I usually buy what I read so I'm wary of that kind of titles now. Hikaru ad Index really makes me feels like I mostly wasted my money on them, especially Hikaru. The only decent+ harem focused story I read would be C^3 I suppose...

Zefyris Sep 15, 2015 6:33 AM
You're correct in that I usually don't read web novel. I'm reading the WN version of yujo senki, but the LN version. IT's the same for yuusha, aruiwa bakemono to yobareta shoujo, yuusha-sama no oshishou-sama, and shinigami wo tabeta shoujo.
They are all originally web novels on narou that were published in the enterbrain edition.
I discovered that I really liked their choice of WN they're publishing.
I rated both youjo senki and shinigami wo tabeta shoujo 9/10 and the 2 others are at a good 8/10 for me. That's an impressive average score for their choice, I wasn't expecting that.

Mushoku tensei, I haven't read it but I can tell you Youjo senki is veeery different from it already.
Youjo senki is basically focused on two things War strategies (by far the most impressive and detailed use of war tactics I ever saw in a novel, they really go far) and the MC him/herself. No other character is really important. We follow the thoughts of the MC which are a huge part of the novel, as he/she's participating in a 1930ish world war as an OP mage and elite squad leader. The MC has a very detailled and out of ordinary personality, as a pure product of the modern society, an elite of the elite, doing anything logical to get promoted, but doing it well.
The feel from it is very unique due to the two components. The main character is the exact contrary of Mushoku Tensei's MC, who was a NEET afaik. If they crossed path in japan before being reincarnated, Youjo Senki's MC would look down to him as trash and as a parasite (not exaggerating, the guy have a strong disdain for those not doing their work properly or not working at all. He appreciate to have competent peoples where they are needed, at the right place) ^^".

Youjo senki is selling "okay" since it's selling enough to usually appear in the bottom of the top 30 sales list of Oricon when a new volume is out. It's the bottom of the list though, so compared to most well known LN it's not selling well, but comparing most of the LN getting out each month (which usually don't make it to the chart at all), it's doing good.

I considered reading Mushoku Tensei before, but I'm really not sure I would like it. Doesn't this series has harem (and ecchi?) component ? I usually don't like that. As for Oretueee characters, the only one I appreciate are all females too (well Youjo senki is a bit of a weird case in the list since he could be said to be both but..).
Zefyris Sep 14, 2015 5:37 AM
Yes, that's when several characters takes very important decisions for their future, that will completely change what they will do in following volume. You should already have heard of it a little I think. Cannot be more precise without spoiling here.
Zefyris Sep 12, 2015 4:48 PM
I think the first volume was translated but not really more so far?
Damascus steel... IIRC that's volume 3 then. It's the last volume before things really starts moving.
Zefyris Sep 12, 2015 1:29 AM
hello, I've read only the beginning of the manga so I'll have a hard time to compare. There's more probably far more world building in the LN version since that's one of the forte of HAsekura sensei and the chapters of the manga I read were lacking on that point IIRC, but outside of that, can't say anything. Where is the manga right now?
AlexTheRiot Oct 8, 2014 5:08 PM
Very true. At least these days I do see the occasional VN avatar(been seeing a lot of Hoshizora no Memoria lately for some reason).

Yeah I remember the soundtrack standing out. It really does complement the atmosphere. And that track is freakin beautiful haha.

The art really is unique, and really fitting. I'm sure that was what enticed me to play it in the first place, so that's something to look forward to when I pick it back up.

Well, and 8.5 even with the story not being executed as well as it could have sounds pretty good. With that setup, it sounds like the focus is on capitalizing on the individual character arcs and delivering the feels, so that's good.

Not sexualized in any way? Holy crap that's a breath of fresh air.

Ahh didn't think about that, I may check it out. And yeah I can't remember if I torrented from fuwanovel, but as it's the most straightforward with its downloads I should be able to redownload and give it another go. Thanks!
AlexTheRiot Oct 5, 2014 8:52 PM
How good would you say Inganock is? I played the first ~30 min and liked it, but my patch crashed somehow and I haven't tried again. I'd like to pick it back up but I never see anyone talk about it.

Ahahaha, for the first 3 episodes I was like, "wow this anime has a really intense start I feel like theres so much assumed knowledge." And then I mentally began to catch up :P. But yeah, i was struggling at the start but the all around awesomeness of the anime kept me hooked!

(and thank you for reading my review)
