Welcome to my little pocket realm。
I'm always on the hunt for high quality content, but I mostly choose things based on my own whims or emotional needs. My favourite genres tend to be yuri, mystery, horror, and slice of life. I have a special place in my heart for mahou shoujo.
I've probably played ten times as many games as I've watched/read anime/manga. Mostly though, I'm a big fan of VN's and JRPGs with a gripping story or mystery.
In terms of understanding my rating system:
[10] has to be an absolute masterpiece with almost no flaw, so it's practically non-existent.
[9] is the true top tier stuff that is almost perfect and pushes the boundaries in some way; these tend to be my highest rated.
[8] is the tier that most great stuff sits at, but doesn't really push any boundaries, it's a 'safe but great' anime.
[7] is for those that are of generally good quality but are what I'd consider pretty average; best used for filling time when nothing else is available.
[6] is when it starts to feel like a waste of time, stuff that's creeping into bad territory.
[5-1] are varying levels of 'avoid', this is where the truly awful stuff goes, or things that I think you should steer clear of. It's rare but occasionally high-quality pieces of work end up here, with an accompanying explanation.
What's happening right now?
We're finally getting to the end of this Elden Ring DLC playthrough, which sure has dragged on. Really looking forward to putting the game to bed finally.
Worthy Games
The game I play the most currently is World of Warships. I'm a pretty big fan of the Azur Lane/WoWs feedback loop and I like history/shipfus. If you play both games, it's a great combination.
In terms of game series, the Fire Emblem, DrakenNier, Soulsborne, Metal Gear, MegaTen and Yakuza series are some of my favourite franchises.
Current favourite console is the Nintendo Switch. Don't underestimate its game library. Favourite retro console is the SEGA Saturn. Grew up with the PS2/GBA, but I feel like my golden era was during the Xbox 360/DS.
Favourite game company has to be SEGA, they are responsible for a lot of high-quality stuff in general and I've got a lot of respect for their push towards PC games. Favourite SEGA games include Super Hang on for Mega Drive, Dragon Force for Saturn, SEGA Rally 2 for Dreamcast and Yakuza 0 for modern hardware.
Worthy Visual Novels
If you're new to the genre I'd start with more interactive hybrid games like the Danganronpa, Zero Escape or Ai Somnium series, it's a great way to ease into it if you're unsure, and they're great games in their own right. Visual novels include some of the best storytelling in any medium and should not be overlooked.
For those familiar with the genre, the SciAdv series (such as Steins;Gate) is God tier. My favourite yuri visual novel is the Flowers series. If you want your standard hetero stuff though, the Grisaia series is also good. Other worthy mentions include Life After Magic, Fatal Twelve and Root Double.
As a side note when it comes to Steins;Gate, play the visual novels first! It's a far better experience. It's hard to ruin such a masterpiece of storytelling, which is why the anime is rated so highly, but the VN is a lot better and gives greater depth to the characters and story.
