“You see, whether you can draw like this or not, being able to think up this kind of design, it depends on whether or not you can say to yourself, "Oh, yeah, girls like this exist in real life." If you don’t spend time watching real people, you can’t do this, because you’ve never seen it. Some people spend their lives interested only in themselves. Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!”
― Hayao Miyazaki, a man who seems unable to stand many other humans himself
“When you're making anime, if you get all of your inspiration from anime... it's going to lack originality and creativity, so I try to get my inspiration from different genres.”
— Shinichiro Watanabe

I respect your opinion. I also liked EoE's ending at first. It was definitely more conclusive and easier to understand in comparison to the original show's ending. But I found rebuild's ending to be more on the optimistic and "there's light at the end of the tunnel", "it definitely gets better" vibe from it. Guess I'm more inclined towards optimistic endings lol. I mean NGE was always so hopeless and dark most of the time, watching the rebuild series was definitely a breath of fresh air.
If you don't mind asking me, where did you stumble onto my profile from? Just wanna know where and how far my reach on this account is. Wanna grow my club too :)
Maybe I’m just not reading into it as much, but I don’t really see the show having as much depth as you’re saying. The writing and especially the theme that you're talking about was just kinda unremarkable to me. Of course everyone has different viewing experiences.
I liked SBY, it was one of my first romances, and I gave it a ten when I first watched it. The lightnovel is great too, I would say it's better than what's animated. Both in terms of experience and that the arcs that follow the movies are the best in the series in my opinion.
enjoy!
