Damn, I did not think I would ever give another anime a score of 10, but here we are. Of course, all those people criticizing Jigokuraku are not necessarily wrong - the anime is neither the next Shawshank Redemption nor one of Christopher Nolan's mind-bending masterpieces. Therefore, if you are one of those pseudo-intellectuals who only enjoys watching galaxy-brain-teaser shows whose depth is solely based on conveying simple concepts and premises in an unnecessarily complicated way that makes you feel like a genius once you finally understand it, then you should probably skip this anime, for it will not cure your chronic insecurity or make ... you feel better than the rest of the community in any way. However, for those whomst do realize they are essentially still watching children's/teen's cartoons, Jigokuraku is about as good as an anime show can get.

The story is fast-paced, captivating, and (most importantly) unpredictable. Unlike other popular shows in the genre, where even an 8-year-old kid can easily see how the anime would end after watching just the first two episodes of it and the whole journey feels about as exciting as watching a download bar fill from 0 to 100%, each episode in Jigokuraku is a unique experience and leaves you wondering where the next one would lead you. The anime also does not make the same mistakes as other big shows like Game of Thrones or Attack on Titan by overhyping people through unnecessary foreshadowing and suspense that are bound to end in disappointment later on. The story builds up tension steadily and effectively, with each plot shift either living up to or exceeding the viewers' expectations, and the bizarre setting and world-building brought to life by MAPPA's exceptional work only contribute to the whole magical experience that is Jigokuraku.

The characters may initially appear as one-dimensional, but quickly undergo a captivating transformation, gaining depth and complexity as the story unfolds. More importantly, Jigokuraku features one of the best and most respectable female protagonists I have seen in anime so far, despite the fact that it takes place during the Edo period in a heavily patriarchal and androcentric society. The show also touches on various far-eastern religious and philosophical concepts without wasting time with unnecessary details or trying too hard to impress the viewer by presenting things in an overcomplicated way.

Overall, Jigokuraku is not just a great anime, but I also believe it sets a standard for what other anime in the genre should aspire to be. I highly recommend it to anyone who seeks an enjoyable and unique viewing experience.

SPOILERS ahead. You've been warned.

The story takes place in Japan around the late 90s or early 2000s, I'm actually confused about this part as we don't get much information about what year it is. Five completely unrelated death row inmates from various locations around the world manage to escape from prison, leaving the same message that says they are heading for Tokyo to "taste defeat".

Why Tokyo? - because according to the synopsis our boy Baki who "trains with an intense focus to become strong enough to surpass his father" (who is known to be "the world's strongest creature") lives there, so for some weird ... reason they go to challenge him instead of... his father... yea, this part doesn't make much sense.

Although if I have to be honest I would say that I liked the premise, it was the execution itself that was a huge disappointment for me. Of course since it is an anime I expected some of the characters to have superhuman powers and stuff like that, even the fact that throughout the entire anime we don't really see Baki (or anyone else for that matter) actually "training" despite most of the characters looking like some anabolic monster taken from last year's Mister Olympia didn't really bother me.

But as the anime says "A martial artist's job is to break human bodies", the problem is that it is literally impossible in the world of "Baki". All we see is the same characters causing catastrophic damage to their opponents bodies just so they can bleed a little and continue fighting later on.

Cutting someone's throat - don't worry, he just needs a band-aid
Losing your arm - we'll reattach it
Hundreds of broken bones including the entire spine - will be able to walk again in next scene
Almost gets his head cut off and is left to bleed for like a day - he will be fine once we get him to the hospital, also reattach!
Deadly explosion - just few burns on his skin, nothing serious
Getting shot by a shotgun at point blank range - not even a scratch

Sorry but how am I supposed to take any of the fights seriously, I literally felt that they would've survived even a nuclear blast at that point. I'm honestly confused about how are you supposed to "kill" someone in "Baki". None of the significant characters ever dies. Even all the blood and gore felt meaningless as it rarely led to any permanent injury.

Not only that but the anime keeps throwing new and new characters to the mix. The viewer simply doesn't have enough time to establish any connection with them or whatsoever, it feels like they are appearing out of nowhere just to fight a bit and disappear again few episodes later. Baki's brother, those Karate guys, the criminals, the Chinese dude, we even had Muhammad Ali and his son for some reason. There was so little explanation or backstory that it felt as I've jumped directly into season 6 of this show. So many things were incomplete or didn't make sense.

Art - mediocre also excessive gore and some annoying CGI

One of the few positive things I find about this anime is the only female character - Baki's girlfriend. I didn't expect much of her but my expectations were subverted. Despite her generic looks and the lack of any special powers she's manages to become strong (in her own way) and earn some of the viewers respect but far from enough to compensate for the complete mess this anime is.

Hello, you favorite hentai reviewer that you've probably never heard of here. Today I'll be reviewing Cafe Junkie, the hentai masterpiece with plot so unique and unpredictable it will keep you on the edge of your seats for 60 minutes straight. The amazing and complex characters will take your breath away as you fall in love with each and every one of them. Absolute 10/10.

The story is about a guy named Masaru (Ma-kun) who is probably the best character for the average viewer to insert himself into I've seen so far in anime. The guy has absolutely no special features or whatsoever. Normal build, MC ... haircut, generic voice, even his clothes look boring, honestly. Like if this was an actual RPG this would've been the default level 1 male character. It is almost like the Japanese hentai artists are trying to tell their audience full of 30-year-old virgins "If this guy can do it, everyone can! Don't lose hope guys!".

"Oh come on, no one watches hentai for the guy anyway. Gimme girls, gimme rape."

Well, there is no actual rape (which is probably the only redeeming feature). The girls... Oh... Did I say girl"S"? Well, there was just one girl with three different heads because the budget for this one was probably so low they couldn't even afford changing their height or breast size a little. And how there is no rape you ask? Well, it's quite simple. All of the girls are in love with our amazing protagonist even though they are sisters and aware of the fact that he sleeps with all three of them.

"Characters, plot... you are talking too much, this is a hentai remember? No one really cares about that stuff, I just want to fap, that's all.".

Yes, but it will be kinda hard for you to do so, because on top of all Cafe Junkie probably has the most boring sex scenes I've seen in a while. And it's not because the censorship or the awful animation and voice acting. The creativity in this one was close to 0, just 60 minutes of complete emptiness. It's hard to distinguish one sex scene from the others. Even the most hardcore vanilla fan will probably fall asleep unless he starts thinking about his ex or smh.
