Real drama in the spirit of Shakespeare, not mutual tsunderness?
while the war was stopped since it's in truce, in the background some demon & angel fiction still unsatisfied with the term  and some group still try to stir some conflict to restart the war. actually both MC was some sort of spy who try to recruit allies on earth in case the war broke out again. in that way, i guess it's on spy x family level of drama? if that make sense. i don't remember spy x family anime has reach the drama part. not as intense enough to be qualified as drama genre, but it's there and it went somewhere.
Spy x Family has a sort of political drama, but because it's a show for teenagers, it obviously touches on issues of spy warfare and the nuances of keeping the peace between major wars rather superficially. Still being a good spy work (subjectively, of course). But going back to that title, I hope it's at least close to the likes of 00s shows, as I love them so much because of the nostalgia and ease of involvement.

I mean, this show is like Gabriel Drop Out, but with real romance instead of passing ships off as actual ones.

i don't remember gabriel dropout has any romance or action, but it is romeo and juliet inspired with twist. if you seens juliet boarding school, that's more closer i think.

I'll watch this because Gaina(x) is helping to animate it, and I would like to watch every Gainax/Trigger/Khara anime that's not too sexual or violent for me. I'm hoping this will also be a preview of what the animation for Top wo Nerae 3 and Uru in Blue may be like. Flaglia had an interesting speed effect that may have been practice for Uru in Blue.

Now the Gainax/Khara/Trigger anime for 2023-onward are:
Evangelion 3.0 (-46h) (2023, Khara)
Kaiju No. 8 (2024, Khara is doing the CGI)
Delicious in Dungeon (2024, Trigger)
New Panty and Stocking (~2025, Trigger)
Cap Revolution Bottleman DX (ended 2023, Gaina)
Flaglia (2023, Gaina)
Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru (2024, Gaina is assisting)
Uru in Blue (TBA, Gaina)
Akubi wo Suru ni wa Wake ga Aru (TBA, Gaina)
Top wo Nerae 3 (TBA, Gaina)
Gaina Tamager (ongoing, Yonago Gainax)
Telepath music video (2023, Gainax Kyoto)
Zero Century trilogy (TBA, Gainax Kyoto with Production Goodbook)

It's nice to see Gaina is still doing stuff -- it's hopefuel that one day soon we may get to see these Gainax production hell projects.

it's mostly romcom. the action isn't even happening until 70 chapter in. the action only very few in between and some flashback. the rest is romcom stuff.

Judging by the synopsis and the publisher, this is more of a school fantasy action in the style of some Shakugan no Shana rather than a rom-com. But I could be wrong as I haven't read the title.

Is it just a fantasy romantic comedy with occasional action?

There is also a little bit of drama (Love-triangle/tragic backstories) , and ecchi. (Not too many)
But it really is primarily a wholesome Romeo and Juliet type of rom-com.
Hmm, still sounds like a typical Dengeki's LN from the 00s, but from what I understand, I still need to watch the anime to be sure.

Yes school fantasy action is more accurate to describe it's genre but from the trailer there is sme romance comedy

Despite its occasional fights , the focus of the Manga is still the Rom-com (and Ecchi) moments between the 2 Main characters.
The school setting is more secondary , with the characters seen outside most of the time.

Well, it's up to you to decide if you like it or not. I haven't read the manga so my hype is completely pure.
I'll watch it first before I decide, I mean it looks fun so it would sucks if it disappoints
At least it's not over hyped original project, so I think you can easily lower your expectations if you want.

A manga adaptation from Dengeki that isn't a yuri or LN adaptation? With a classic LN plot? Wow, I have to see this.
