New 'Rurouni Kenshin' TV Anime Unveils Supporting Cast Pair, Third Promo

The special stage for the new Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan television anime at AnimeJapan 2023 unveils a pair of supporting cast and a third promotional video on Saturday. The new anime series adapting Nobuhiro Watsuki's historical drama manga will air on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block beginning July 2023.

Megumi Takani: Saori Oonishi (Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e)


Aoshi Shinomori: Yuuma Uchida (Banana Fish)


Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood) is directing the new anime at LIDENFILMS. Hideyuki Kurata (Made in Abyss) is handling the series composition and Terumi Nishii (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai) is designing the characters. Yuu Takami (Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin) is composing the music.


Weekly Shounen Jump serialized the manga from 1994 to 1999. Watsuki and his wife Kaoru Kurosaki launched the Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Hokkaido-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc) sequel manga in Jump SQ. in November 2016. Shueisha published the eighth volume on January 4.

The original television anime by Studio Deen and Gallop aired in 94 episodes from 1996 to 1998. Aniplex released a four-episode OVA the following year that served as a prequel to the television anime, followed by a two-episode sequel OVA in 2002.

Lidenfilms is just...an extreme case of hit or miss projects. When they do things right - it clicks, so I hope it will be like that.

Maybe it's just me but these trailers are really hard to gauge anything about the anime with. In any case, honestly just hope they finally adapt the last arcs in anime form. Cuz I just feel fucking nothing watching the live action movies.
