An anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura
novel series was announced at the Netflix TUDUM Japan event on Sunday, revealing the main staff, a concept art (pictured above), and a character visual for Abe no Seimei (pictured right). The anime series will debut worldwide on Netflix in 2023.

Yumemakura originally began writing the historical fantasy novel as a series of short stories in the September 1986 issue of All Yomimono magazine. Bungeishunjuu published the stories in tankobon and bunkoban format in August 1998 and February 1991, respectively. Yumemakura also penned novel-length stories, which were released by Asahi Shimbun in tankobon in March 2000 and Bungeishunjuu in bunkoban in July 2003. The latter also shipped a two-part novel in September 2005.
began serializing a manga adaptation
by Reiko Okano
in May 1993 before it switched to Comic Birz
in May 1996. The serialization transferred to Monthly Melody
in June 1999 where it ended in May 2005. Schola originally released eight volumes from July 1994 to December 1998. Hakusensha republished the manga in 13 volumes between July 1999 and September 2005.
Okano drew the Onmyouji: Tamatebako
sequel manga in Monthly Melody from December 2010 to April 2017. Hakusensha published the seventh and final volume in July 2017.
Onmyouji tells the story of renowned onmyouji Abe no Seimei, who meets and befriends the bumbling courst noble Minamoto no Hiromasa. Together, they defend Heian-capital kyou's from an opposing onmyouji, Douson, who is secretly plotting the emperor's demise.
