@RobertBobert No prob, dude! If you need anything else, just ask! I believe Saintia is a good way to know to the main series anyway, the original can be quite disappointing to people used to recent anime/manga, it's kinda outdated.

@RobertBobert Alright! Just keep in mind that both spin-offs are made by different authors so they'll have some differences in character and history development. But I think both are good updates to the original franchise and get through the essential of Saint Seiya.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not sure that I can watch the original series before the release of this anime, but I hope that the franchise will please me.

@usernome In that case, it sounds like a mix of Sailor Moon and Fate/Zero :D. Well, if it's not much different from the original series and doesn't spoil some important points, then I'll try to watch it.

@RobertBobert Anime version, yes, it could be related to those Sailor Moon themes, at least during the first arc. Toei did lots of visual changes and tried to put more content to the characters. A lot of fans are into BL/yaoi ships, especially between Gold Saints and Shun&Hyoga. The manga is more direct to the point.

Lost Canvas is a spin-off taking place ~200 years before the original, it's not exactly a prequel. In Saint Seiya's universe, Athena reincarnates as a human every ~250 years and ends up having a Holy War with Hades. LC is about one of those wars, back in 1700~1800 (I pressed enter accidentally), so 100% different characters, but you can get the idea. The anime does not cover the whole story.

To be introduced to the series, the best would be watching or reading the Sanctuary arc, but it's like 70 epispdes (anime) and no full scans in English (manga, I think it's around 12 volumes). But honestly, Saintia gives you all the info you need about the original, you could just go reading it without any worries.

@usernome Well, A quick search of information about this franchise, left me with the impression that it was something like the male "analogue" of Sailor Moon with many similar themes like brotherhood, reincarnation, a sense of duty and unintended (perhaps) popularity with the LGBT. And since I'm a male and love Sailor Moon, it sounds pretty attractive to me.

In any case, I always adored Greek mythology, so I decided to watch Lost Canvas, since MAL says it's a prequel to the main story and there are relatively few episodes in it.

@RobertBobert Yeah, romance is not the focus. Saint Seiya is a typical 80s shounen manga, it focuses on action and has very poor character development. The story has a good plotline, but does not play it very well. So, Saints are warriors who protects the greek goddess Athena (Saori Kido, hah), who is responsible for the Earth, from other greek gods/goddess who want to destroy the humans and take control over the Earth. Everything is related to Greek mythology.

Saintia Sho takes place in this Universe, Saintias are special female warriors under Athena's army. But, differently from the original, it focuses more on character development and less in fights, but still having some action of course. So Saori is anything but generic, although not the MC, she's right in the core of the series.

She's quite dull in the original, but here she takes the spotlight imo. She has a GREAT character development.

@usernome So, if I understood correctly, the romance in this franchise is not one of the main topics and basically pretty subtle?

Well, I'm always happy if Inori can get a good role in a big franchise and voice a developed character. Especially if it's not a generic love interest, but an important heroine.

She's one of the heroines, yes. Although Saori usually takes the role of a martyr in distress in the original series, she's much more active in Saintia and definitely is one of the protagonists. She's actually my fave character so far in the series.

Well, I'm going to get acquainted with this series, but I was worried about Saori, since Inori traditionally voices the best, but romantic runner-up girls.

In any case, if I understand correctly, in this version girls are protagonists, and the guys are love interests and side characters? Or is it yuri-ish spin-off?

Hmm, that's a bit hard to answer. Girls are protagonists, guys are more like side-characters but some Gold Saints do take the spotlights sometimes, and we didn't have so much focus on romance so far. As this is more like a side-story to the original series (although it's a spin-off, it takes place meanwhile the original), Chimaki (the author) seems to keep some of the romantic tension from the original story, although this is very very subtle in most cases, just as Saint Seiya is not much romantic-focused.

With that being said, there are some gay and hetero romantic tensions between the new characters. Although there are already 11 volumes published, there hasn't been too much focus on that so far. We're getting development from some of the protagonists only right now, so it's kinda hard to tell. I'd say there's more yuri material but it's subtle and arguable.

About Saori, she's REALLY present so far, especially up to volume 8 or 9, so Inori will be making a lot of appearances. Btw, there's a drama CD covering volume 1 and Inori played Saori, so you can check this out if you'd like to get an idea about the series or just to support her work (you can find it on Youtube, but there's no subs or anything). Saori is more like the leader and she's really badass in her own way imo, though she's not the MC. She doesn't fight because she's not a warrior, but that doesn't mean she doesn't do anything.

EDIT:
If you want to know about Saori's romantic interests, I believe Chimaki leaves small hints of her "traditional" love interest in Seiya, the MC in the original but a character that have only made a very small appearance in this serie. This is a classic old ship in Saint Seiya and in the original her interest on him is water clear and though it's unclear if he corresponds, it's generally accepted that they're in love. But anyways, I don't think we'll be seeing much of her interests on anyone, though some of the girls seems to have quite some feelings for her (and one of the guys, but this is also material from the original).

If you wanna know more about Saint Seiya, just to get a bit used to it, just ask.

Anyway, sorry for you, Athena / Saori does almost nothing by herself. The heroes/heroines are always her soldiers.

The site says that it's a TV series.
It is set as TV on the db but we haven't even mention it will be a TV series. Also, the official site doesn't mention the TV broadcast information at all.

Thank you for clarifying. In any case, if there is Inori here, then I will definitely draw attention to this series

@Rei366 Well, I'm not familiar with this series, so at the moment I'm only interested in this character. For obvious reasons.

Huh, they kept most of CD Drama cast (the only one they replaced is Mii, who is now voiced by Megumi Nakajima, instead of Pile). Didn’t expect that, especially since this cast is very young, while Toei usually relies on veterans. Though I hope that they’ll keep anime cast for Saints.

Saori Kido: Inori Minase (One Room 2nd Season)

So Inori will be one of the main heroines?

Pretty solid cast (yay for more M.A.O), too bad they had to change the style of the manga (I have nothing againt the Shingo Araki designs, but the art of the manga was fine as it was).
I see they changed Saori's voice actress once again (not surprising, since Saint Seiya's voice actors never remained consistent since the Hades OVAs), I wonder if the are going to get new ones for the Gold Saints too.

And speaking about the Gold Saints, once again, they steal the spotlight. Poor main characters xD
