The winners for the 71st Annual Mainichi Film Award, hosted by the Mainichi Shimbun and Sports Nippon Shimbun were announced on Thursday.

received the Best Film Award. It is the 31st film in Godzilla
franchise and the 29th Godzilla
film produced by Toho. Shin Godzilla
premiered in Japan on July 29, 2016 and earned 8 billion yen, becoming the highest grossing live-action Japanese film of 2016.
's Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni

) won the Award of Excellence, along with the Ofuji Noburo Award. The film adapts the the manga drawn by Fumiyo Kouno
