Shigofumi and True Tears, anime shows that started airing in Japan just this month, have already been licensed by Bandai Visual USA. Bandai Visual USA said the North American DVD releases will occur only 2 months after their respective Japanese DVD release. According to their statements, it appears these releases will only be subtitled Japanese episodes, not English dubbed.

I read about this in NEO magazine. The price is ridiculous.
Here's hoping that the UK release will be at a decent price.
And SOON. Not in another 4 years...

Oh lord.

Looks like Bandai Visual USA is now delaying these titles along with Sola as they "reconsider" their overall release strategy. As much as I hate their high prices coupled with low episode count I honestly don't want to see Bandai Visual USA bow out like Toei did. I'm hoping they'll enact changes to put them on more equal and competitive footing with other domestic anime licensing companies.

Press release for the postponement can be found at http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=1306

If the company has rights to it, I don't understand why they don't simply use the fansubs on their DVDs and ask the subbers to take it down after licensing. I would be more tempted to buy them, they wouldn't have to hire a sub staff which saves money, and we get our beloved subs.

I don't watch fansubs, but, sorry, I'll take proffesionals over fansubbers any day.

On topic, I'm sad to see BV get these licenses. I wanted to see these, but BV's price point is unacceptable and ridiculous. I'll pass on these unless I can find a good deal.

While I have no interest in either of these shows, I feel I must voice my SEETHING HATRED for Bandai Visual's release practices. It's hard to say who I hate more, them or 4kids.

I don't know how these people not only stay in business, but continue to license new shows.

Bandai Visual's prices are just...

But True Tears and Shigofumi are indeed the best shows of the Winter 2008 Season and really, it's hard to come across anime like them. I guess I'm willing to spend that many because I love both of the series, True Tears especially. But if there are groups that will continue to fansub these series, then I'm keen on not spending a penny.

Agree. But you forget another outstanding and still not licensed Anime airing in this Season:

Wolf and Spice!

Dont miss it, as long as its hot (and free)!

Yeah, I guess it did come off as an insult, but I didn't really mean it that way.

Wow cool so just because you dot agree with people you insult about all of that, guess that makes you cool then? But yeah Fansubs always have a advantage because they are made about people who love the series and want to give it their best while it is just a regular job for "normal" subbers.

Although, if they are worse... Can't they just pay the fansubbers to sub it? I mean, I think many fansubbers wouldn't mind to do it for the big companys, and if they can do the job better, I can't see why not? (The reason I'm bringing this up is that I've heard that the official subbers don't do karaoke for the OP's etc.)

Yes, because karaoke is obviously what makes the difference between great or terrible sub quality.

Also, it's kind of funny how at least 75% of the people posting in this thread have no idea what they're talking about.

True Tears sounds so emo. :D

Yeah, just because they've been licensed doesn't mean ppl will stop subbing, I'm just really unfamiliar with subbing group too lol, just what i've heard. : )

True Tears is being subbed by w.0.0.f, I'm not sure if BakaWolf is still involved in the project, but that's the only tag when they release. Moetaku is still subbing it as well. As for Shigofumi, Menclave stuck with it and FTP-Anime is also still releasing. There are actually more than that, but many of the other groups I'm not familiar with.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to think that no one is subbing these shows anymore, as there are still multiple quality groups following each of them.

They are new and were licensed quickly. It does not look like the groups are subbing them anymore.

Wasn't that hard.
