Kite: Liberator to ship to North America days after Japan
The sequel to the 1998 science-fiction OVA Kite, Kite: Liberator will be released on DVD in Japan on March 21 then four days later it will be released in North America on March 25. Originally it was planned to release in late January in Japan, but that date was pushed back due to unspecified production issues. The distributor, Media Blasters, who holds the North American license to the original Kite, co-produced Liberator and will be distributing this 57-minute film.
There have been few anime to premiere in both Japan and North America in the same week. Among those is Akitaro Daichi's Grrl Power, which was officially scheduled in North American two days before the Japanese release. And Afro Samurai aired on Spike TV four months before it aired on Japan's WOWOW channel (in a director's cut edition).

I'd say fansubbers win when they can finish subbing something that's unlikely to get a licensed release. There are lots of awesome, obscure shows that are getting neglected for new, obviously going to get licensed stuff.

more often then not, fansubs > 'official' subs lol. Also, if they can get it subbed before it comes out in north america, then they win right? xD

Not really. Japanese release it as censored, and NA as uncensored. So if that matters to you... ;P
